Prisoners Voting
Moonlight_Graham replied to Cherry Poppin' Daddy's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
I think prison should be for punishment & paying back their debt to society (1st priority), and also rehabilatation (2nd priority). You want prisoners to be punished for their crimes, to not really enjoy their time in prison as a deterent to not break the law again, and also get some help for when they are re-released back into normal society to avoid them doing something bad that gets them sent back in prison. I disagree with the thinking of criminals as victims. Yes, they may have had a troubled childhood. Yes, they may have grown up in poverty. But nobody FORCED these people to break they law. People need to be held 100% responsible for their own actions. At the age of 18 our society thinks a person is smart/wise/capable enough to make good decisions, and knows the difference between right and wrong enough so that said person is given the right to vote, along with most all the other rights afforded to adults. Now, if a person over age 18 breaks the law & aren't responsible enough to follow society's rules, is it unfair to say these people aren't responsible enought - or shouldn't be allowed - to have a say in the making of society's laws and rules (ie: voting). Rehab is good, but you can go overboard. While in prison, Karla Homolka recieved a free degree from Queen's University...in psychology. Nothing wrong with educating prisoners, but why are we paying for psychopaths to get degrees from our best schools like Queen's? Why not from a regular, less expensive school? We have very lax prison sentances & laws in Canada, but thats anothetr topic. As for the death penalty, i don't support it. I don't think we should have the right to say when a person's life should end. Also, if a person murdered by parents i'd rather that person rot in jail for the rest of their life and work their fingers to the bone everyday as punishment, rather than the state kill them. Seems like the easy way out & a waste. Why not have the criminal dig roads & crush rock for the rest of their lives and actually give something back to society rather than killing them? -
Isn't conscience just being self-aware, and empathy is feeling what other people feel?

earbuds are shit. They are itchy and uncomfortable. The only thing good is that they are small and very portable & break less easy in your bag compared to big headphones. I bought myself a nice pair of Sony headphones (like DJ headphones) a few years ago and i love them. Great sound and bass, & very comfy.

Itchy, well said. -
Encarf, I thought i heard/read in the news that most of the judges (i assume they mean Supreme Court) were mostly Liberal, as were the Senate. How can the Liberals be in power for 12 years and it still be mostly Mulroney judges? Cherry Poppin' Daddy, i'm not sure who or if any Liberals would cross the the floor, but i'd bet Belinda Stronach would be shitting herself. Especially if she doesn't get re-elected this Monday.

I don't think anyone said anything about the removal of ALL their rights. Since prisoners are in prison, their rights to be free walking are already taken away. I don't see how taking away their right to vote will hurt their rehab process. In fact, if they care at all about their right to vote than maybe it will act as a small deterant for commiting crimes. If a prisoner has most all the rights/freedoms that we do, whats the point of putting them in jail? If somebody polled prisoners who were going to vote, i doubt many would be voting Tories and most would be voting Liberal simply because they fear the Tories would impose stricter sentancing/punishments for criminals. Most don't give a crap about anything else. And if they do have families/friends and care about their futures, maybe they should have though of that before commiting their crime(s). Daddy sure ain't helping his family by being in the slammer. -
Saw this in the paper today, but none of you can likely see the entire articel if u don't subscribe: http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...2c-a56d52da0700 Article says latest ipsos-reid poll shows seat projections of Conservatives taking a strong minority gov't if an election were held today, and they are close to getting a majority win. The greater Toronto area is still mostly Liberal, but Conservatives have made strong in-roads there since the shooting of the innocent girl during the holiday because most believe Conservatives would do a better job fixing crime than the Liberals. The rest of Ontario is showing a very strong Conservative lead over Liberals and NDP. Suprisingly, the Conservatives have actually passed the Liberals in support in Quebec according the poll (both around 20% support i believe), with Bloc around 50%. The Bloc is actually closing in on the Liberals as the official opposition. Of course these are just polls and about 15% of people are still undecided.

prisoners shouldn't be voting. They should have given up that right when they violated the law, just as they gave up the rights to other freedoms. All allowing prisoners to vote will do is put more votes towards a party that is more lax on crime. And really, do we actually want the worst scum of society having a say on things that affects our lives? -

yeah go WWWHR!!!! Prime Time Deliverance - both are good songs, not great MG songs IMO. Neither would be in my personal top 15 or 20.

Humanitarian Intervention
Moonlight_Graham replied to Cherry Poppin' Daddy's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
I dunno. All i know is that there much much more severe humanitarian crisiseses (what is plural for "crisis") than Iraq (pre or post-war). By signature is a good example. I think we should tackle them each in order of greatest need. Its too bad we don't have the means to help them all. What i'd also like to know is why all these celebrities are preaching to help in such-a-such a country, but they are still filthy rich and live in a mansion in a gated community in Beverly Hills. If i were filthy rich, i'd buy myself a sweet house wih some nice stuff, buy my parents whatever they wanted (ie: house), save enough money to live the rest of my life like an upper-middle class would, and save enough for my (future)kids to go to any university they wanted. Then i'd take the big chunk thats left and give half of it to charity, & then take the other half and invest it in some land somewhere. And then when i die, i'd have that land sold and give it all to charity, as well as everything else i owned (house etc.) -

Triple E Senate
Moonlight_Graham replied to Cherry Poppin' Daddy's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
i agree. And i don't think Canada's lack of voter turnout is much different than most other Western democracies. For those that don't care enough to vote, piss on 'em. -
Yeah, that "Studio 2" guy who was the moderator won the debate. LOL.

also to note: - the only thing i didn't like about Batman Begins is that Batman's ears look dumb. They point in toward the head, instead of pointing straight up like they always do. I think it looks lame. - and oh yeah, the new batmobile is the most bad-ass batmobile ever by far & one of the coolest cars ever! - i agree Spiderman 2 was better than part 1. - i liked the 1st xmen flick better than X2. -
They look home-made to me. So you better get out your paper-mache skills!
