Abu Musab Al-zarqawi....dead As Fuck
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Yeah what a great feeling this war is almost over! whew. -
Hillary will probably get the Democrat nomination. She has a good chance to win i think, even if she's a woman. She's one tough SOB, plus she has popular Bubba to campaign with her. She'll likely be the next president. I really like John McCain. If the Repubs get in again, i hope its him. Rudy Guliani says he won't run, but he'd have a great shot at it.

i gots nothing to say really, just wanted to say "dead as fuck". Its my new favorite phrase.

that video gave me a boner.

exactly. thank you. Bizud - I don't know as much about Afghanistan as you, i try to stay as informed as i can but i'm not 100% informed on this war, so maybe i should read more about it. But these very young men/teenagers who were arrested i'm sure aren't terribly informed either on all the issues, & likely have been brainwashed by their parents. They probably just think we are invading a Muslim country & killing Muslims, therefore they seek revenge. Hard to say their true motives until they go to court. But in order to prevent terrorism, we must not bow down to the terrorists & try to please them & not piss them off as Ecnarf said. I think we must be respectful in the treatment of Muslims/Islamics and Muslim/Islamic nations in general. If we enter one of their countries to fight terror etc., try our best not kill innocent civilians etc. or be there without reason (ie: Iraq). Preventing terrorism also includes tighening up our lax immigration policy, and if we find terrorists already in our country they should be arrested or deported. If we can't find reason to arrest suspected terrorist or homegrown terrorist that had yet to commit crimes in Canada, then we should do exactly as the RCMP & CSIS did & monitor these people & arrest if we see them doing something suspicious. Harper stated his support for the war in Iraq leading up to the war, but has also publically stated he no longer supports the war because of the false pretenses that it was based upon. I also supported the war in Iraq leading up the war (although at the time i thought Bush went in way to soon without giving diplomacy & inspections its proper chance), but i only supported the war because of the "facts" i was told my the U.S. & British gov't etc. that Iraq HAD wmd's, and were seeking means to create nuclear weapons. Now we know none of that was true, therefore i do not support the war & feel lied to by the Bush admin. I'm sure this is a similar reason why Harper (and most people) changed his opinion on the war from support to non-support. -not sure what you mean by "the evaportation of the social safety net". We seem to have it extremely good here in Canada for those unwilling or unable to work etc. Unless you mean our health-care problem, which i do blame the Liberals a lot for. -I like the conservatives a lot more than the Liberals of the last decade or so, but thats not saying much. I don't like they way they are controlling the journalists on the hill. I agree that they should have implemented Kyoto, but they say they have their "own plan"...so we'll see ;). Fiscally i don't mind what the Cons are doing so far. Chretien promised to rid the GST 14 years ago. Harper promised to drop it 2% & has already started fulfilling that promise. -I think their stance on childcare is wonderful. Let parents have a choice. Let mothers stay home if they want, or let the grandparents babysit, or put their child in private day-care if they want. A national day-care program would be a joke. Any government-run program is likely to be highly ineffecient & wasteful, so i'd rather give the money to parents to spend on private day-care. - i don't agree the Cons are "hateful bigoted troglodytes", they simply have more tradional, Christian social values. I do not agree with them on the gay-marriage issue for sure. But unlike the Liberals, at least they stand for something & aren't afraid to say it. And when they promise something, they seem to back it up with action.

Bizud, I don't agree with everything that goes on during war, or the allied occupation in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, i'm sure there's a lot of bad things that goes on there caused by all the countries who have occupied that country & ousted the Taliban. But i do agree with us fighting in Afghanistan, removing the Taliban, and breaking up the terror groups that the gov't harboured there. Unfortunately i can't control what each individual solider does there. Osama Bin Laden himself mentioned in an interview in 2002 that Canada was one of the nations Al-Qaeda has targeted. The others he specificly mentioned were "Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Canada and Australia".

Canadian Police did:http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/06/03/...in1679996.shtml "Canadian police told reporters the group recruited angry young Muslims and maintained an al Qaeda-style training camp north of Toronto." I read today in the newspaper that at least one of the suspects cited Canada's role in Afghanistan as one of his reason for wanting to attack. So obviously us in Afghanistan is an obvious source of motivation for terrorists in Canada, and has increased our chances of being hit. However, i still think we would have been hit anyways eventually. For these people that say we should get out of Afghanistan, do you think we should not be fighting terrorist camps abroad & terrorist-supporting/harbouring regimes? Should we just let Al-Queda run around the mid-east at their own will? Should we just let all our allies do all the fighting & let their soldiers get killed while we go off & do much less dangerous peacekeeping duties? Fighting Al-Queda & the Taliban in Afghanistan is, IMO, a just war. And yeah war is a messy thing & it sucks. But its not right for Canada to stick their heads in the sand & be pussies just because a few of these extremist morons threaten us. Give me a break. I live in Ottawa, & the Parliment buildings (plus the U.S. Embassy & possible other landmarks) were said to be targets by this group. So its not like Ottawa is immune to anything. Plus my sister lives in downtown Toronto.

Well it worked i guess. Their message is the #1 news story in Canada & the US right now. Thank God there was no violence in a bombing or in the arrest. I'm not suprised at this. Canada has been pretty lax in their immigration policy & its a fact that many terrorists and terror groups (i believe the number is around 50) are in Canada right now. These particular people who were arrested were born-Canadians, which is even scarier. I said when the London subway bombing hit that Canada was the only nation yet to be hit on Bin Laden's publically stated "hit-list" of countries. So its really just a matter of time before a successful attack is made in Canada. But congrats to the RCMP and CSIS for thrwating this attack. Scary world.

Harper Proposes Fixed Election Dates
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Its still possible to bring down the goverment with a no-confidence vote. -
http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/20...ote-060526.html Conservatives are acting on their campaign promise to try to bring in fixed election dates for federal elections. Elections will be held every 4 years in the 3rd week of October. What do you think of this proposal idea? I think its fantastic. I know people are going to say "no no we don't want to be like the Americans" but fuck that, other countries have fixed election dates & its a great idea, much better than what we have now where the controlling party can call an election at any time when it is at their political advantage. This will even the chance for all parties. October is also the best month for elections IMO since winter is bad for weather & getting to the polls, & people are away in the summer, & people are busy back to school in Sept.

McDonalds could use their big billboards as shields so i say McDonalds

i thin she's cool.

to an extent that is definately true, but is it better for people to read the articles he links to & learn about events through his words & eventually be more tuned into polticals/events in their lives....or just spend that same time making their MySpace pages look cooler?

;) Yeah, MBLOG was a good political blog if you like reading somebody's point of view. But hell, i can get this shit in my newspaper in the editorials section or in a million other blogs out there. I was much more interested in Matt Good the musician, and in some small extend Matt Good the person. I'm not that interested in Matt Good the political thinker, though it was kinda interesting to see what he had to say from time to time. The best thing about the blog was that it got a lot of younger people engaged in the political process & more aware of global events. Thats the best thing that ever came out of mblog for sure. I always found it weird why fans of a musician would care so much about what he has to say politically, but i guess it comes with the idol-worship thing especially with younger people. But since Matt is getting people involved in whats going on in the world, its overall a positive thing. So in that sense, i hope he brings it back.

there's a lot of really good songs on the album, but none really stands high & above the others to me. I voted Load Me Up but i like Hello Time Bomb possibly the best. Its probably MG/MGB's most rockin' tune ever.

I think its disgraceful that Canada doesn't lower the flag. Haven't they been doing this for a long time? Again, it raises a point of the exact reason why the Conservatives are doing this? Is it to draw attention away from the fact people are dying, or for reasons 'heyrabbit' said? Its not like we have a lot of soldiers over in Afghanistan, or as if soldiers die every day. C'mon lower the flag i say. Matt - are wars only worth fighting for when people aren't dying? I like that we are in Afghanistan, i dont like the fact that we wont send any UN troops to the Congo.

Former Tory Enters Liberal Leadership Race.
Moonlight_Graham replied to Matt's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
yeah cant see anyone gay being a Conservative or Alliance member for long. I honestly wish the Liberals luck, i hope they find someone who will clean up the party and make them worth voting for again. -
He peaked with beautiful midnight no doubt. But he's still very well known and gets lots of play time on the radio and his new videos get on MuchMusic...just hasn't had a breakout song in a awhile.

What do you people think of this? The Conservative Party barring media from attending the arrival/ceremony of fallen soldiers from overseas? To me, i can see it both ways. It really all depends on the motives of the decision. On one hand i think the media shouldn't be there, i think it is a private time for the families of the victims to grieve. But then, i ask why did the Cons do this? Is it because they believe in the privacy rights of the families, or do they just not want more media attention put on the war in Afghanistan? Ultimately, i think a compromise should be met. The families should have their time alone with the bodies when they get off the plane, but then later as the bodies are moved on and transported away, the media should get some shots/pics of the coffins etc.

Former Tory Enters Liberal Leadership Race.
Moonlight_Graham replied to Matt's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Brison seems like a douche to me. Not impressed. Didn't like him when he ran for the PC leadership, and thought it was typical poltical bullshit when right after he lost he switched over the the Liberals. Maybe he didnt like the Alliance/PC merge or something, dunno. Its funny how people like Belinda Stronach and Brison can feel so passionately about a party to run for its leadership and then switch the the opposite party not long afterwards. Just weird. Dont really know a ton about brison but the Liberals just need someone who will completely clean up that party, both people and policy-wise. -
If you even thought about fighting him i would have scoped out the scene first. Is he with some friends? if so, how many? These days, you never know cuz you could get gang-beaten to shit. In your situation, i would have at least confronted the guy. Ask him if he thought it was cool to sexually assualt that girl, and ask him why you shouldn't call the police right now & have him charged with assault. If things escalated into a fight from there, then i guess you'd be in a fight. But hey, sometimes its just better to get even instead of mad. Go find out his mom's phone#, and call her and tell her that her son sexually molested your girlfriend. Im sure that loser would dislike that more than a black eye.

Harper & Afghanistan - Thoughts?
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
i don't think its racist, but what you say does have a good point. I have thought of such things myself many times, how it is in a sense hypocrytical. We call ourselves Freedom Fighters & our soldiers heroes, and call Bin Laden a terrorist. Many Arabs call Bin Laden a Freedom Fighter & a hero, and refer to us as terrorists. In a way, it can be really fucked up. A big cycle of violence. We cause chais in Arab counties in the past, then Al-Queda etc. strike back at us...then we go into Afghanistan & Iraq etc and bomb the shit out of them etc. But whats the answer? We don't do anything - we be pacifists, and terrorists very likely keep attacking us because there are no consequences (and a lot of them vengeful assholes & a disgrace to their faiths). Its a HUGE shame that its seems the West doesn't give a shit about the innocents they kill. But in the end, when the body counts are in, its really comes down to "its either us of them". 100,000 Afghan civilians killed or 100,000 Canadian civilians killed? Take your pick. I truly feel horrible for all this violence & am a compassionate person, but when shit hits the fan & i'd have to choose i'd rather it be their families dead than me & my family dead. War if completely fucked up, thats all i'm really sure of.
