  1. i just think the fact that its France is weird, because of the giant french/quebec conundrum in this country. If he was Canadian, grew up in Quebec, and has a dual-citizenship with Zimbabwe it would be different. Does anyone know how long he lived in France & when?
  2. Did you see the movie? Sounds like you didn't. Everyomne knows about global warning, but what the movie shows is precisely how quickly its increasing (uses lots of scientific graphs & studies to prove points on CO2 levels etc.) & what frightening damage could occur in the next 40 years if we don't do something drastic right now. I didn't even like Al Gore before seeing this movie, thought he was a power-hungry nerd. But now i like him, this documentary is completely from his heart & all profits from the DVD & book are going to environmental causes & help global warming.
  3. I think its nuts to have a potential PM with duel citizenship, and to all places France! I personally don't think duel-cizitenship should even be allowed, you should choose your country of choice & pledge allegiance to only 1. Anyways, i don't like that Dion was 2 citizenships, he should reneg his French citizenship. Could score him points in Quebec though since this guy is about as french as you can get without being a seperatist. Also heard one of the other candidates for the Liberal leadership had lived outside of Canada for 30 years! mod-edit: fixed spelling of dual.
  4. i forgot Brison was gay, thank you for pointing out what you did. I guess if i was him i would leave the Conservatives ASAP too. That doesn't mean i still don't think he's a power-hungry poop face though ;) . But that goes for 80% of all politicians anwyays. At this very moment i dislike a lot of things about all of Canada's parties, so i'd be in a thunderfuck if there was an election right now. I still despise & distrust the Liberals for their past corruption & they'll have to prove me otherwise. They still seem more about power & winning than personal beliefs moreso than any of the other parties. Which is a shame because i fall closest to the Liberals on the poltical spectrum.
  5. I always skim through the newspaper every morning because my parents subscribe to the Ottawa Citizen. I also watch a lot of CNN, & sorta dart around the different news stations like CBC newsworld, sometimes Fox, & sometimes the nightly 6:30 news on NBC/ABC/CBS/PBS and just check out the headlines. also tune into Global National to see the top stories, sometimes tune into CBC national news at 10pm but i'm usually busy that late. I like CBC news but try to get more than their coverage because i don't fully trust a news program/station owned by the government. CBC does sometimes have a left-leaning, Liberal bias. However i find Global has a conservative bias, but not so bad most of the time. Also like watching Studio 2 & some news talkradio. basically i get my news from a ton of places, but mostly newspaper, Global/CBC, and CNN. For some reason i don't read a lot of news on the internet unless someone (like MG or one of u guys) refers an article.
  6. Saw this the other day & WOW. Very eye-opening. Best movie i've seen since Crash. I have so much more respect for Al Gore now, who i used to think was just a dorky fake career-politician. 10/10. This movie should be shown in every classroom & watched by everyone.
  7. i don't get, so it gets an N/A from me.
  8. oh fuck!!! Didn't know that, RIP Dave. He's one of my favorite all-time artists. Wasn't he co-creator though, with Len Wein who wrote Giant-SizeX-Men #1 (and Wein created Wolverine beforehand with whoever drew that issue of Hulk).
  9. its another way of saying "Fairy-tales of 9/11".
  10. this is fucking hilarious. His brother set up a camera to catch this kid getting real mad. Angry Gamer (playing Halo 2 online) and the follow-up is even better. Angry Gamer 2
  11. cool. bonus for rhyming. 8/10
  12. Not sure if we can do much except wait for the Democrats to impeach the bitches. Or pressure our American friends on here to pressure their local gov't or congressmen whatever. I guess if we were 100% passionate we could camp in front of Capitol Hill & organize a worldwide rally to get the mofo impeached.
  13. top 5 X-men: 1. Colossus 2. Nightcrawler 3. Thunderbird 4. Wolverine (never liked him for a LONG time, now i do) 5. Banshee havok, storm, & Sunfire tied for #6. P.S. Bishop used to BE cool. I own his 1st app. comic, Uncanny #282 i think? or 283?
  14. Same as the "avatar" thread. Hope this hasn't been tried before.
  15. don't know who thats is? 6/10 if its not you, kinda boring. 10/10 if its you, thats a great personal pic.
  16. Yah but i think Liberal's, Conservatives and NDP all want to be "the" federal party in Quebec, i think that's why so many voted for this resolution. They are all jockying for Quebec votes federally, which could spell the end of the Harper government since i think 74% of Canadians ( maybe 77? i cant remember the exact poll number) disliked this resolution. So it'll be interesting to watch, i think none of the parties wanted to look as though they were not in favour of the resolution because of the nearing political campaign. ( I am speculating here, since minority gov'ts never last long) maybe 50% of those 75% who disagreed lived in Alberta? Then it wouldn't change anything. i'm just kidding around (sorta). In the end i don't think this changes anything much. In 2 years this will be completely forgotten (until election time when people bring it up, then it will go away again). But hey. You look at the last referendum, which i remember watching the results coming in on TV, and the vote was as close as you could get. Maybe if the next vote is close and this "nation" thing swings a few people the other way it could mean the difference between 49% & 51%. Who knows. Wasn't Alberta & B.C. gonna seperate? When do we call them nations?
  17. this is a start. information leads to inspiration leads to action. It really opened my eyes when i first saw it around when it first aired on PBS in June. Its one thing to read about this stuff or go by heresay or op-ed stuff like Farenheit 9/11 or from things you read in papers are on matt site or on Jon Stewart, but to hear this shit from the people close to the situation who worked with these tyrants is quite eye-opening.
  18. i went to U of Ottawa. I found it well-organized, but its right in the heart of downtown so the campus isn't much to look at. Its basically a concrete jungle with basically no grass or lawn to chill out & read under a tree or have lunch or play frisbee etc (minus a very small patch of grass). Thats really the only thing i didn't like about it. However, if you like a busy downtown scene thats very close to a big mall & bars/clubs & lots of shops then you'll love it. If you're 18 you can also slip over into Hull, Quebec real quick & hit the bars there LOL. Academically i found it quite satisfactory. Also keep it mind that a lot of francophones go there, which is good if you're francophone but still didn't really affect me at all (being anglophone). Also has good transportation access (bus, train, taxi) & isn't too far from a major airport, bus, or train station when u want to slip home if you live out of town. Has nice facilities like a really nice pool, new hockey arena, gyms etc., & tons of clubs/ sports teams.
  19. PBS "Frontline" documentary called "The Dark Side", shows how Cheney & Rumsfeld (& to lesser extent Bush) built their power within the White House/Pentagon respectively, orchistrated the case for war, conjured a fabricated NIE from the CIA, spread propaganda through interviews & the state of the union speech etc. Watch it now online for free, then send the link to everyone you know who cares about truth. PBS Frontline - "The Dark Side"
  20. The natives will not want to leave Canada if Quebec separates. That will be very messy.
  21. Who's yea or nay on this? http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2006/11/22/harper-quebec.html I personally don't really like it. Though its just a title & doesn't really MEAN anything in terms of new powers or rules for Quebec, i think every province in Canada should be treated equally. Yes Quebecers are different from the rest of Canadians, but so are most Newfoundlanders, East Coasters, & Albertans etc. I hate that we have to kiss Quebecs ass once again just to get some votes & avoid Quebec separtation. I like Quebec & Quebecers but c'mon. This is just a political move, one that Harper probably wasn't thrilled to make, which hopes to make the Tories a bit more popular in Quebec & also to help national unity & appease Quebecers before what could turn out to be another referendum coming soon, after the next Quebec Provincial elections (which the PQ will likely win).
  22. Go Phil Donahue!! That man is so bad ass, wow i remember his show when i was a kid. Holy shit i loved watching that, and no he clearly was not intimidated by Old Yeller of the Fox News Corp. I'll give this to O'Reilly, at least they got through the interview & had a heated but healthy argument instead of him just flipping out & ending the interview ala that Glick kid, who i thought handled himself pretty well too. P.S. O'Reilly is a douche.
  23. Holy crazy powers of observation Batman!!
  24. Oh i'm sure there's many posters here who haven't needed to take anti-depressants. I was a MG fan long before i started to take them. The reason i think so many posters here are on meds isn't Matt's music but rather that, if i'm not mistaken, problems with depression, stress, & anxiety are the #1 reasons why people go see a doctor. These problems i guess you could call general or chronic 'unhappiness' when it all boils down, & its not suprising to see a large % of people dealing with this problem (a pretty universal & age-old problem!). Kind of ironic that Matt has had the shit stick handed to him this year & has gone through similar things/emotions a lot of have in our lives.
