I don't think he's a prop. I think he's telling it like it is. Our military had decayed greatly. Our old ass Sea-King helicopters bought in the 1960's malfunctioning & crashing isn't the type of thing an effectively funded military should have happen. Its not about become more of a war-like country or not, its about just having the basic needs to defend the sovereignty of the country & respond, respond to any domestic emergencies, and give our troops good equipment to protect themselves & do their job effectively. It was very easy for the Liberals or any gov't to cut funding to Canada's military, because with the U.S. next door we don't need much of a military, and thr gov't can take a lot of that defense money & spend it on more social programs...and we know how Canadian voters love their social programs. The decay was about politics, and what will help get more votes. Not what was in the best interests on the country, IMO.

Child Care Money About To Get Taxed
Moonlight_Graham replied to Matt's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Incorrect. I was asking my dad about some income tax questions, what was taxable & not taxable etc. I brought up the child care benefits. He said "yeah, those are taxable income too". I asked him if this was just recently announced (as this thread suggests). My dad told me no the gov't said the money was counted as taxable income back when they Cons first announced this new Universal Child Care program. I had 2 opinions to this argument now, so i looked it up and right on the Universal Child Care Benefit FAQ on the Revenue Agency website where u apply it tells you that the benefits are indeed counted as taxable income that u will need to report it at the end of the year. link: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/benefits/uccb/tax-e.html#q1 My take on this is that the gov't probably should have taken the taxes off the top right when u get the cheques instead of taxing it later (for convienince-sake). But its typical politics, the Cons get a boost because people like getting the bigger cheques in the mail. For those that are suprised to be getting the tax form in the mail, well they should have read everything more carefully when they applied. -
Ghost Rider is one of my fav comic characters of all-time. But i hope they keep this movie to the characters roots. Make it more of a thriller/horror movie than a superhero flick. Ghost Rider obviously isn't a superhero. I want to see some people die & get their souls fried. I just hope it isn't lame with too much crappy CG. I know Nic Cage is a huge comic fan, so he probably lobbied hard to get the part. He's not a great actor but we'll see.

Child Care Money About To Get Taxed
Moonlight_Graham replied to Matt's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Yes they should have said they were going to tax when they announced the program. Not sure if they did or not since i'm not privy on the details. But i guess according to the Liberals they didn't. We'll see what happens about taxes in the next budget. I don't mind paying taxes, as long as the money is being spent on the right things & isn't being wasted. The Liberals were getting quite wasteful in the latter years of their last run, bit i think that is natural for a party who has been in power a long time. They become complacent. I think the change of gov't is healthy for both the country & the Liberal Party. I know u are a big Liberal guy, & i'd like nothing better than to feel confident casting my vote for the Liberals since they are closer to me on the poltical spectrum than the Cons. Hopefully the Libs will be cleaned up for the next election, but im not getting my hopes up. -
LOTGA i love so much. If i met Matt i'd get either that or Avalanche autographed.

Child Care Money About To Get Taxed
Moonlight_Graham replied to Matt's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Well, most money you receive/earn is taxed. If you are unemployed or disabled & you receive EI or disability pension it counts as "income" & you are taxed for it. So this isn't suprising to me. This is weird because you are taxing money that is paid for by taxes. So you're taxing taxes & that money will just go back to into the big tax coffers. huh? rant: Taxes in Canada are crazy. If you make a modest wage, then the gov't takes about 20% off your paycheck right away for Employment Insurance & Pension. Then when u go to buy most anything u pay GST/PST, so thats another 14% off your paycheck = 34%. Then u gotta pay income tax at the end of the year, so there's more $$$ gone. Then if u have a house you gotta pay property taxes & shit etc. etc. etc. I don't know the exact #'s but at the end of the day most Canadians give the gov't close to 50% of their paycheck to the gov't. If you make good money you are fucked even more. I'm waiting for the gov't to clamp a meter on my ass so i have to pay taxes every time i fart. -
cool music, didn't know Oasis made thats song?!?!? Nice video really, kept me interested. Grateful moment of the day: just be glad you don't go to university in the U.S. $$$$$$$$$$$$$

table-crossings make me so mad sometimes. So undemocratic in way. I wish there was no such thing as political "parties". It takes so much power away from the individual MP's who are supposed to be representing us, since they almost always vote with the party line. Then again, i could see a lot of crookednees happen if every MP was independant. Individuals are much easier to be paid off. politics BAH!!!

Canadian Gov't & Global Warming
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
well the Liberals weren't doing much for Kyoto either. In the end i really don't care if they bicker or not, as long as at the end of the day the job gets done. A few weeks ago a emailed my local MP (a Conservative). I told him i wanted climate change & global poverty (foreign aid) to be given much more attention in the next budget, and that i didn't care about his words i wanted to see some action. He replied, with the typical blah blah. We'll see. I urge others to contact their local MP's as well. -
voice your opinion of anything. Right now everything is a joke. John Baird is our new Environment Minister. Big WOOP!! He seems like a nice guy (besides the screaming in the House) but he's not going to be given the power to do anything. Wearing green ties doesn't make pollution & CO2 go away. And all this fighting among the parties to see who is "most green" is sickening. If you all agree then just shutup & fix the problem. Conservatives wouldn't be doing SHIT about this if it wasn't the #1 political issue on Canadians minds in the polls. So fuck them & fuck Stephen Harper. And who gives a rats ass about the Alberta oil sands. If strict Kyoto or California-style rules affect Alberta's ability to get richer that is just too bad. Deal with it & shut up, you guys aren't going to starve to death. Same with the car manufacturers, if you don't want your bottom line to be affected by emmission rules etc. then change the way you make your cars. Design electric cars & more hybrids. If that costs you money then cry me a river. Earth > the bottom line.

Question For People Good With Computers

hey Bill Gates is a philantrophprohistphist now. -
Maxtor & Western Digital make good harddrives. also, a full CD is 700mb max. So 700mb x 600 cd's = 420GB. Jesus christ you've done a lot of pirating young man. Also consider that a 500 GB won't give u EXACTLY 500GB's, it will give u a bit less when u format it so a 500GB harddrive will actually give u about 470GB of space. Personally i wouldnt back-up your entire CD collection, just the ones you'd really like to protect. Plus u can always burn an extra copy of the CD's & store them somewhere. CD's are probably more safe than HDD's to back stuff up. Never had a CD crash on me, or virus eat my CD.

maybe they shouldn't put teams in Nashville & Atlanta & Dallas & Tampa Bay. How can people love hockey like the rest of the continent does if they've never played it, or gone skating more than 3 times in their life? NHL is stupid to put teams in the southern U.S. like they do.

Universal Healthcare In America?
Moonlight_Graham replied to marx marvelous's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
the thing with the U.S. is that many Americans don't like having gov't in their lives. Many do not like social systems where the gov't comes in and taxes the more wealthy to help fund the less wealthy. Much more of a "take care of yourself" country than Canada. I have a friend in California who is always PO'd that the gov't takes money off his cheque for old-age pension. he'd flip-out if he came here. -
5/10, i can't see what those guys are saying!

Universal Healthcare In America?
Moonlight_Graham replied to marx marvelous's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Juanpe, i think one thing a gov't setup like that needs to watch out for though are people from out of your country, who don't pay into your taxes, from abusing the system. I don't know how your country works, but obviously i have no problem letting a foreigner on vacation get into surgery if he's just had a serious condition like heart attack, stroke, or even broken arm. But there's people who might abuse the system like someone coming over to Spain with a short-term work visa & oh woops my knees hurt i think i'd like a knee replacement for free! -
Universal Healthcare In America?
Moonlight_Graham replied to marx marvelous's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
one thing is for sure, the pressure on healthcare is going to keep increasing dramatically over the next 20 years or so as the baby boomers start getting old & needing shitloads of healthcare. If anyone wants to be a millionaire, go build yourself a few retirement homes & charge bigtime for monthly rent fees. -
