Your Opinion Of Elvis

"Watered-down black music" is weird thing to call Elvis, because the guy grew up in Memphis (lots o blacks in that city) & sang black music his whole life, as well as lots of gospel, which is why he was signed in the 1st place: He was a white guy who sang black music (thus bringing it to the masses). Actually the songs i mentioned above "If I Can Dream" is about black rights. Sang it on the '68 Comeback Special, Priscilla said that was her fav song of Elvis' cuz he sang it will such real emotion for the subject matter. -

Well, hard to sneak a 2 rifles around in your jacket pocket right? A complete ban of guns, yes it would drive it underground & create more crime that way. Maybe thats not the answer. But my point is that the guns laws in the U.S. need to be toughened. They are a joke. -
The Gun Lobby Proposes To Equip Students

No its pretty stupid. Especially considering these people are young (& often drunk), not 40 y/o. What they need is better campus security. Security guards are the only guys who should have guns. And there's a debate whether the police handled this situation properly. This kid certainly had severe mental illness & the warning signs were blaring all over the place. The teachers knew he was depressed & suicidal. Security, getting this kid help, and keeping a gun out of his hands i think are the keys to preventing things like this. -

I cant stand those corny Elvis movies. Neither could Elvis, apparently he would literally throw up from doing those damn flicks. Now THOSE were hack jobs. But Elvis has some very good songs. If you're not too familiar with Elvis beyond songs like Hound Dog & Jailhouse Rock i'd recommend: - "In The Ghetto" - "If I Can Dream" - "Kentucky Rain" - "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" But hey different strokes for different folks. He definately does have his share of crap songs though. -
I tried Wonderfall by Oasis actually before i wrote this thread, i can get it ok but there is like 3 or 4 switching of chords u gotta do fairly close to each other so i wanted to try something easier. Music i mostly listen to is classic rock. Lots of stuff from the 60's, a lot of Black Sabbath, Metallica, Zeppelin, Neil Young. I've played casually for about a year now, & most of the stuff i've been practicing has just been riffs from Sabbath, Metallica etc. so i haven't needed to learn chords. But now i want to, play some MG & Neil Young stuff etc. I'll try "Zombie" by the Cranberries & see.

My personal fave is Luke Skywalker ever since i was a little kid, so thats who i voted. As for Superhero, its a toss-up between Spider-man & Superman. Spider-man is cooler & is much more relatable. But Superman was the first superhero and has the ultimate super powers that anyone would want. He could kick Spidey's ass. Superman is just so iconic. The Tick? WTF?

No Elvis = no Beatles, Stones etc. No he didn't write his own songs, but the man could sing, & he was a showman who could entertain on-stage like few others of his time. Unfortunately the world was quite racist back then, and black rockers came before him but didn't catch on. Elvis brought rock to the masses & influenced music like few others in history. He deserves some credit. -

Elvis rules. Brought rock to the masses. Grew up listening to him, my mom was a fan. -
Been playing guitar for awhile but haven't gotten into learning chords much yet. I'd like some suggestions for some fairly easy & well-known songs i could play that have chords. I'm talking simple shit. No capos, no tuning string down or up. Just something with or 3 or so chords or whatever if possible. Even parts of songs would be fine, like a chorus. Thanks.

The guy in the video should probably be arrested for violent hate-speech or something. Is it legal to threaten the extermination of a race, or does that still fall under free-speech? (serious question, i dont know)

Yes i would find it depressing. I like Mom and Pop stores, but they have their pros & cons. Often little stores will only give you in-store credit when you return something, and they also close down frequently so sometimes your in-store credit becomes useless if not used right away. Ideally i'd like to see a balance of big stores & small businesses. I think now it has tipped a bit too much the other way. Before Wal-Mart & Costco in Canada it was Kmart, Zellers, Sears, The Bay etc. Those stores didn't offer the insanely low prices, but still were good stores yet small business could still compete with them. Terrible customer service? I dunno. They have a 90-day return policy for almost all products. The cashier asks you if you found everything u were looking for when u go through the cash. Plus the security guard posed as a greeter is a nice touch. There's smaller stores that have much better service, but for as large & as busy as Wal-Mart is, it would be difficult to have much better service. -

except low, low prices & excellent service. But seriously i love shopping at Wal-Mart, im sure there's some seedy crap that goes on as with all large corporations. But they just treat their customers with a superb amount of respect & sell stuff for great prices, which is what made them huge in the first place. The only people i feel bad for are the smaller competitors like Zellers or Mom & Pop stores who just have no chance to compete with Wally World.
