- like my sig, from Symbolistic White Walls: "Its al-riiiight now...take the world and make it yours again, YOURS again!... YOURS again!..." - from "She's got a New Disguise": "What will it cost to buy you back? To buy your eyes...to buy your smile?" and at the end of the song: "And all i want is you, all i want is the truth, all i waaaaaaa-aah-ooohh-oh-oh-aaahh-oh-oh-oh-oooohhhhhhhhhh..." i love that part! where MG just wails on that last word. - the end of "Everyname is my Name", when MG finally says "and then the credits roll...and everyname is my name" - the opening to "Long Way Down" - the opening drum beat on "Lullaby for a New World Order" - the quitar solo parts in "Radio Bomb" - the whole beautiful chorus from "While We Were Hunting Rabbits"!! - and especially, from "Omissions of the Omen": "Man makes god so god can make man man makes the devil so that he can understand why it is that every day, everything always turns out this way" and at the end when he finally says "and kill the moon and turn out the sun...omissions of the omen"

Toadman, yes i think i've heard of that situation with the natives. And yeah that could happen to anyone really. There are countless people in this country who'd rather sit at home and make a career out of collecting unemployment/welfare than actually finding a job (including a relative i have). I say at least give these people the opportunity to get an education, and if they choose not to take advantage of it and live in poverty then so let them. As they say..."you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink". But the thing that sucks is that for these people who grow up in poverty and/or bad households, sometimes they inherit the same lackluster work habits as their parents might have (not saying all poor people are lazy), and often the kids in troubled homes don't do well in school and/or their parents don't push their kids or care if they do well. This is a much more difficult problem to solve, since you have to get to the very root of the matter. forget_about_your_soft_spot, what sort of electrician is he? He does everything: residential, commercial, and industrial. However, he usually sticks to commerical and industrial work. Schools, high tech companies etc. Residential work sucks, because you often run into problem trying to get payment from private individuals rather than larger businesses etc. Going to court for small $500 payments isn't fun or economical. Sorry i don't live in Windsor, i live in Ottawa. My dad isn't hiring anyways. But good luck to you. Yeah stick with Industrial and commercial stuff. The bigger the establishment(s) your employer is or does work for, the steadier and more work they'll usually get (and hence likely more $$$).

not suprising. i heard tht before i think. I think i heard the Bush camp is doing that to keep Kerry supporters from disrupting their campaign stops etc. I'd imagine there are numerous asses who'd be i the crowd booing and the like. But i don't believe in that crap Bush is pulling. going a little too far. I've also read/heard that Pres. Bush closely controls which journalists are allowed into the White House when Bush gives his live TV speeches, and then the press are allowed a question peroid afterwards (but Bush RARELY has these press meetings). I think that if there's a jounalist who really piles the hard critical questions to Bush he doesn't let them in the next time, or seats them in the back and doesn't let them ask any questions.

Why i'm PO'd with "White Light R&R Review" CD...
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Matthew Good
I got mine in a jewel case a few weeks after release. So no lyrics in it. -
well thats the stuff i'm talking about. I hate when the teachers or councilers try to influence your decision. I took those career tests too, they were ok. But nothing beats going to an actual place of business, checking out what they do, and see if you like it or not, or maybe seeing something that you've never thought of before as a job/career. Anyways, back to democracy...i haven't read much of Marx's work, maybe i should. But i think Democracy works, and the capitalist system is flawed but it works. A big problem is the trend that people who grow up in a certain economic class usually stay there. Rich stay rich, poor stay poor. But if you work hard enough it can be overcome. My dad grew up in a measly working-class family, quite school with a 10th-grade education, went to electrical trade school, started his own business, worked his a$$ off for 25+ years and now lives a very comfortable lifestyle. But today that is hard. Its all about education, and the poorest can't afford it. I think that any high school student under a certain financial bracket should be able to get a free decent university education as long as they work hard in high school and attain a certain level of grades. That would help the class problem a bit. Democracy is a great thing in that the citizens can choose what kind of gov't they want, left-wing or right-wing etc., and then Province-to-Province and state-to-state people vote for different ways of social-economic living.

Why i'm PO'd with "White Light R&R Review" CD...
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Matthew Good
Putting the lyrics on his website doesn't do me much good when i'm listening to the CD in the car on a roadtrip (not driving of course ;) ) or when i'm up at my cottage. i rarely listen to CD's on my computer. i usually just listen to MP3's. I just think that, in this era of music pirating, you gotta give people some sort of incentive for buying your CD. The last Metallica CD came with a free DVD of them playing all the songs on the album in a live jam session. i've always been annoyed when CD's don't come w/ lyrics. -
forget about your soft spot & Toadman, I agree with you both 100% about your thoughts on University. I'm 24 now. I got pretty good grades in high school, and people with decent grades i found were pushed towards attending University. It felt like all the "dumb" kids only went to college. Not a bad thing at all to attend University, but it makes little sense to take get your Bacholer (sp?) of Arts degree in something that has little or no practical application in finding a job in the real world. University is great if you know what career you want to get into, but i have friends who have graduated with a Bacholer of Arts (w/ honors) degree majorying in *insert program here* and they are now still working at the jobs they were doing while still in school. A BA can open a bunch of doors for people, like if they want to go into teaching etc. but for a lot of people it is a waste of time and money if you spend 3-4 years and $20-40 thousand dollars on education that ends up being rather useless in terms of getting a job/career. (plus being saddles with debt). I attented University taking a BA and got good grades, but i quit before i graduated. I'm now likely going to go to a community college and get a degree in small-medium business management (Enterpreneurship) and i may start my own business. In high school they should put A LOT more emphasis on getting kids to figure out what job field they want persue, and what specific jobs they may want. Then they can make more logical/practical choices on post-secondary schooling. I think some sort of career course should be mandatory in high school, which would enable students to travel to different businesses they are interested in and see if they like the jobs or not, like a semi co-op program. P.S. Forget about your soft spot: you said you were going to go to trade school for electrical. My father is an electrician and owns his own successful electrical contracting business. He's hired many apprentices over the years. Its a good trade to get into. In fact i worked many summers w/ him and his guys. tough work, not my cup of tea, but offers a stable career.

Why, in the name of Pete, does Matt Good's new album not come with any lyrics in the CD booklet??? With all the file-swapping programs on the internet these days, i rarely ever buy CD's anymore. But Matt Good's albums are the few that i go to the store and buy everytime. Don't you think the least Matt and/or the record company could do is include the lyrics to the album, like most of his other CD's? At least this would give people more incentive to buy the CD rather than rip it. Anyone else disappointed w/ the absense of lyrics?

"FACT: no two democratic countries have ever gone to war with each other. ...Thats all there needs to be said about communism." "Neither have two Communist states. Sure, there's been massive internal repression, but there's generally no reason to go to war with someone who does not oppose you. Particularly when you've been united for nearly half a century "fighting" (read: strangling to death) another monolithic threat." Are you positive about that? What about when Hitler's Germany invaded Russia near the end of WW2? Wasn't Russia/USSR a communist state at the time? Anyways, i just think the point is that Democracies seem to be more peaceful, at least with each other. For some reason, in Communist countries the worst people of society seem to always rise to power...and stay there, while with Democracy the goal is the opposite - elect the best of our people to run the country (not always the case lol).

supercanuk, yes thats a perfect example. These things happen all the time nowadays in Canada. Like the Radwanski scandal in 2003. Its digusting that we as tax-payers work so hard to have people in our gov't waste our money on fancy restuarants, hotels, and nice vacations etc. At least some of this stuff is being brought to light in the media, like Radwanski's spending, all of Chretien's crap, and the spondership scandal. I'm glad some of these people are being caught and punished. Instead of impeaching Chretien, at least we got that crook to quit. The ultimate power, of course, is that we have the power to vote these crooks out of gov't (thanks to democracy!). Unfortunately, Canadians decided this year that the Liberals didn't need to be acountable for all this crap and we voted them back into power. But i guess Canadians thought that they'd rather have their tax-dollars wasted than have their social freedoms taken (which is understandable, since Stephen Harper was far too right-wing to be PM).

then whats wrong with having a democratic system that is extremely socialist? Then the people can be free and choose their governments, take part in the global economy etc. but share their wealth as well. Personally i think democracy is a good system. I like freedom. But some parts of it suck, like large corporations. I don't mind socialism as long as my tax-money is going to the right places and its not being wasted by the gov't (ie: Chretien's Liberals). When you have a very socialist gov't it seems you've got to keep very close tabs on how the gov't spends the people's money. Its very easy for the gov't to waste it without any accountibiliy, and then when they need more money they just raise taxes again.
-
exactly. In theory, it seems like a very compassionate and well-meaning idea. But its just doesn't work. Corruption and power-mongers always ruin it. Communism has turned into one of the biggest obstacles of peace in the last century. FACT: no two democratic countries have ever gone to war with each other. ...Thats all there needs to be said about communism.

excellent, thx. i'm looking for them right now. amazing. I love MGB's earliest stuff the best, so this could keep me busy for a LONG time!

why do you find these demos?

Well, Matt is very intelligent, but he has no experience as a politician, so maybe he should run for Premier of BC or something before he becomes leader of our country. I also am a little leary about how agressive Matt's policies would be. He's not exactly a "diplomatic" type of guy, which isn't bad, he just says things like it is. He'd probably make a ton of enemies by what he says. I'd have to know Matt's policies first.
