Fought To Fight It: What Do The Lyrics Mean?
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Matthew Good
Matt in a recent interview about Vancouver said that not all the songs are about Vancouver. It's just a general theme from some of the songs, and he writes about others seperate things in some things that have little to do with the city. ie: Silent Army in the Trees, has to do about glorification of war. You can connect that to Vancouver and say, well, Matt experienced playing with guns as a kid in a similar way while growing up in a Vancouver suburb. But really, the meaning of the song is about our cultural fascination with war. -
Great Whales Of The Sea: What Do The Lyrics/song Mean?
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Matthew Good
One thing a bit annoying about Matt as a musician is that i often have no clue what his songs are about because his lyrics are so complex or vague or hidden. His lyrics sound cool, but on the otherhand its hard to relate to songs you don't know the meaning of. -
Dunno if you played these, some are a bit old, but Gears of War 2 was an awesome co-op game, really enjoyed that game more than the 1st Gears (though the end boss battle was way too easy). Been playing Halo 3: ODST, it has 4-player online co-op and is a pretty good game. As for sandbox style, if you haven't played Crackdown for 360 thats a pretty fun co-op game. I believe Saints Row 2 also has co-op.

Gonna try this out with a few songs on Vancouver and see if there's much response. If there is then i'll make threads for the rest of the songs on "Vancouver". So what do you think this song is about? Personally i have no fucking idea. Something about whales. Are there any whales off the coast of Vancouver or something?

So what do you think this song is about? For me, I kinda think it may a song might be being in the perspective of someone on the street with schizophrenia. I might be totally wrong about that, especially because of this part: "This is the office down the hall That writes the cheques that gets the house A better half that's made of glass That's skipping stones and cleans you out" Kinda refers to Matt's divorce experience a bit? Thoughts?

WLRRR was released in both jewel-case and digipack format. I saw them both on the shelf side-by-side at Walmart when it was first released. I went with the jewel case because they fit better into CD racks etc. But digipacks are definately cooler looking. Also, there were no lyrics in the jewel case version either BTW. I demand lyrics when i buy a CD. If i'm gonna pay $12-$15 for a CD and not go burn it for free, u better give me the damn lyrics at least. And i really hate it when a CD has a good sized booklet but its all pictures with no lyrics. ARRRG!!!

I also love Fought To Fight It. I think that could be a single, its pretty catchy.

Release The Full Massey Hall Acoustic Recordings!
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Matthew Good
Does anyone else find there is just something special about listening to these live acoustic songs on youtube that recreate similar acoustics & resonance as being at the live show? The live recordings from the soundboard just sound more "tin-like", doesn't sound as full. And the lack of crowd noise sounds weird. i think i prefer listening to a well recorded youtube video. call me crazy! -
Soooo Obama Won A Nobel Peace Prize?
Moonlight_Graham replied to Computer's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Massive awareness promotion and activism about poverty and third-world debt relief. I'd imagaine he's donated a fair share on his own riches too. I went to a U2 concert in 2002. He announced to the crowd that there were petitions for debt relief available to be signed on the arena concourses. -

Soooo Obama Won A Nobel Peace Prize?
Moonlight_Graham replied to Computer's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Obama winning is bullshit. As MG & others have pointed out in the media, the nominations for the Prize ended only 10 days after Obama was inaugurated. What the hell did he do before that which was so worthy? I applaud his speeches to the Muslim world, like his Cairo speech. His admissions of past U.S. offenses against them is unprecedented for a U.S. President. However, most of the things he was said so far is just that: talk. Talk is cheap, especially in politics. He must back up his talk with actions. In Iraq, Gitmo, Afghanistan, Pakistan. He has a ton of work that isn't close to completion. In my opinion, they should have waited another year or 2 or 3 to see if he is worthy of this prize. There are many others who are more deserving of this prize than Obama. Unfortunately you don't have their posters hanging on your wall. My freaking dentist goes to third world countries during his vacation time, sets up a little area with a few other dentists, and spends all day working on poor people's teeth for free. -
Favourite Movies From The 00's
Moonlight_Graham replied to here is no why's topic in The Silver Screen
Der Untergang The Fog of War Inconvenient Truth The 11th Hour Lord of the Rings trilogy A Beautiful Mind Mystic River Napolean Dynamite Jackass Number 2 (ya thats right) Spider-Man 1 & 2 Batman Begins the 1st 3 Harry Potter flicks. It's odd, there aren't a ton of really strong dramas that stand out in my mind from this decade. Though i've yet to see No Country For Old Men & There Will Be Blood. Its been a wicked decade for documentaries and fantasy flicks though. -
finished Halo 3: ODST. Pretty fun game actually, coming from a guy who played Halo2 & 3 until his balls fell off and was totally sick of these games. It adds a bit of another dimension to the game not being Master Chief, and having a new cast of characters. I'm probably going to pick up COD: Modern Warfare 2 for 360. COD 4 was fun online. But i got totally addicted to COD World at War at a friend's house. Playing the "Team Hardcore" or whatever it is called online, where you don't have UAV's is just such a more fun mode because you can hide better and aren't constantly getting killed by guys just looking at red dots on their map. Felt more like real warfare. Never did buy World at War though, cuz i thought i would wait for Modern Warfare 2 & save myself $80 (with tax), but i kinda regret it now. totally! I'm a huge metalhead and Tim Schafer is the best! I haven't bothered to try out the demo on Xbox Live yet though.

Put them on CD. iTunes. Release them for charity. Sell them out of the back of a Van. Who cares! Lets just get the rest of the live Massey recordings out there. Call your Congressman!

I agree, Tripoli is a must for that set. But we'll always have this amazing version: If only it wasn't missing the first few seconds of the songs. This one has the start, but the end maybe cuts off early and the recording doesn't quite pick up the same amazing vocal/guitar reverb acoustics as the 1st video:

On WLRRR, i doubt the album the 1st week it was out & the sticker on the CD said "featuring Alert Status Red & Empty Road". Obviously Empty Road wasn't even a single for that album. So while it's likely 'Us Remains Impossible' will be the 2nd single (which it should, its the best song on the album musically IMO & radio friendly), record companies obviously reserve the right to change these decisions. Stickers don't = a binding contract to fans lol. If the 2nd single is The Vancouver Nation Anthem i'll be disappointed. One of my least fav songs musically on the album. Lyrically i like it. This whole album is in a unique state because of the 2010 Vancouver olympics. Sales of the album may get a little bump next year just because of the album name. A few tourists may see it in stores and airports and pick it up. Having a song called "The Vancouver National Anthem" as a single presents some marketing opportunities. This would be the case even if the Olympics weren't going on.

Damn right. It's my favorite album, maybe Audio of Being and Avalanche are right underneath. LOTGA isn't an epic album like some of his have been, its more folkish and subtle but still amazing. I adore it. WLRRR is probably Matt's weakest album in my opinion, i'd give it like a 3.5. I like Put Out Your Lights, Empty Road, Alert Status Red, Blue Skies, and Its Been Awhile Since I Was Your Man, and Hopeless. The rest of the songs are crap.

Ya i agree thats a pretty cool part. That said, its not Matt wailing & showig his voice chops ala "Fated"/"Avalanche"/"While We Were Hunting Rabbits" style, or when Matt just sings "Hoooooooo Hoooo Hooo" during parts of Black Helicopter when he played it on the acoustic tour. Man i love when he belts it! But he does belt it a bit in Great whales of the Sea, but maybe its just hidden under the layers he uses on his voice so it doesn't different? I'd also have to edit my comments after a 2nd listen through the album. Its not as "pop"-ish as i 1st thought, i guess it is compared to Hospital Music, but its still MG. As Manchalivin said it's a more upbeat album, plus its not as raw and has a bit more production to it. I don't know if i never listened to the "Fought To Fight It" demo or what, but that song is nothing like anything i heard in the demos. Great stuff. And i love 'Us Remains Impossible'. That should have been the 1st single.
