Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chilli Peppers -
I think it's very important to be anti-war in today's world. The debate going on here is good, but it's arguing about the past that can't be changed. However, we need to understand what's happened in the past to prevent such things from happening in the future. Unfortunately this is lost on too many people. This war on terror is justified by saying "This people hate us because of our way of life and our freedom." Basically saying that we're jealous, but a lot of people don't understand why they hate Western Civilization. It's not as simple as saying "These are bad people who kill without reason." They have a lot of reasons to be pissed off, and they gave the US one. But what the US is doing now, is just as bad, if not worse than what the terrorists did. It's only going to breed more hate. This is why I think people need to educate themselves about what's happening in the world and why. War is not going to solve anything, it's only going to make it worse and I don't think there's any question to that. Being anti-war is knowing better. We may not be the ones who make the decisions, but if enough people can really know what they're talking about and not be afraid to speak up, them maybe we can influence the ones who do make the decisions because they're supposed to be representing us. Okay, I'm done. And just to clarify, I'm not sympathizing with "terrorists", I'm just trying to point out that there's a reason we have terrorists.

Well said. And I actually have a friend working on the movie and he said it looks pretty damn cool. I think it'll be pretty impressive visually, even if the story is a bit lacking.

The Vancouver Film industry is nothing new and I really can't see how it's hurting anyone now. It's been around for decades. True it's seen a lot of growth in the past few years, but there still lots of work in LA for all the trades people who work their. I was only curious about where you were coming from because I work in the VAncouver film industry and I just don't see the connection to your point.

I just found a cheap copy of Raygun at Zulu Records last weekend. It was only 9.99 brand new. That's a good store for rare stuff. It's on West 4th in Vancouver if anyone's interested.

How is the Vancouver film industry hurting the trades people?

The Incredibles is the new Pixar movie coming out this fall. Fantastic Four is based on the hugely popular comic and is being shot right now in Vancouver. Check out IMDB.com to get some details.

Postal Service

A very good band that's doing something fun and different. It's nice that they haven't become mainstream because they're just this fun band for people to discover. I hope to hear more from them soon. And there is no song called Iron and Wine. You might be thinking of "Such Great Heights" which was covered by Iron and Wine on the Garden State soundtrack. But it is a very cool song. My favorite. -

I think all the Ben Folds Five records were great, especially "Naked Baby Photos", it's great collection that show off their fun side and their genius. If you can find it, there's a really good live version of "Smoke" that features a string arangement in the background. It's good. And check out the Ben Folds Live album. "Rock This Bitch" is genius. -
Oh, is that why? And here I thought it was for people making personal attacks on him and on his ideas, not having a friendly chat about him. Thanks for clearing things up.

Best Band Ever....period
pearanoid replied to spiritofeden's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I'm going to have to put a vote in for U2. At least in my lifetime. They've been consistently good for over 20 years, and they've haven't yet become boring or outdated. -
For those of you that are againt this gossipy thread, too bad. I'm standing by what I saw at Blockbuster. So to whoever says "Matt doesn't have a kid or step-kid" how can you be so sure? You give no reasons. And my statement is backed up someone saying they met his kid after a concert. So there. Rebuttal?
-
I saw Matt and Jenny at Blockbuster a couple years ago and they did have a little boy with them. I seem to remeber him calling Jenny "Mom" so it could be her kid from before Matt. But I'm really not sure.

I never paid much attention to Scrubs until I saw Garden State. I liked Zach Braff so I decided to check out Scrubs and I can't believe how funny it is. Now I'm looking forward to the DVD to catch up on what I missed.

Elliott Smith

"Say Yes" - my favorite Elliott Smith song. -
Nowhere in his post does he sound like he's going to put out whatever he wants and expect people to accept it. It sounds more like he's not too surprised so they're trying something else. Matt has always been very forward with his thoughts about how his music is received. The general attitude is "this is what I'm doing now, I hope you like it and if not, maybe next time." I don't think putting out a single that he thinks everyone wants to hear is the answer. We have enough of those around. And no, he's not as famous as he used to be, but he has a large, loyal fan base and that's what matters.

I agree that the Canadian release is far superior. The tracks from Underdogs are great, but Beautiful Midnight is on of the best albums as a whole that I've ever heard. And since I live in Canada, the canadian release is the ONLY Beautiful Midnight.

More or less, yeah. There are some other parts, like the two cops in the diner, that don't really fit, but they parallel other parts of the story. If you're looking for some detailed info, it's out there somewhere. I think the forum at imdb.com has some interesting ideas. That's if you feel like sorting through all the losers insulting each other for the most part of the IMDB forum.

If you liked this, you should also see Lost Highway. And these movies aren't as hard to understand as everyone makes them to be. A lot of the movie takes place inside a character's subconcious. And slowly the real world begins to seep into this dream world they've created. And the beginning of the movie isn't the beginning of the story. It's very well done.

Did Saved By The Bell Run In Canada?
pearanoid replied to jmp's topic in Rentals, Television, and Readables
Saved by the Bell was a staple of my after school upbringing. Zack taught me to be cool, Slater tough me to be tough, Screech taught me to be yourself, and Jesse taught me how to be a feminist in one role and then be a stripper a few years later in another role. Lots of layers in Saved by the Bell. -
