Modest Mouse

I really didn't like "Somebody Told Me", but "Mr. Brightside" got my attention. I listened to the album and damn! It's catchy! -
Yes, the link didn't work for me either. What happened?

I think there's a difference between starting a debate and asking people for their opinion before discrediting it. But that's just my opinion. As you were. Sorry for the intrusion.

Linkin Park
pearanoid replied to solidus's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Linkin Park has now been compared to Nickleback and Simple Plan! Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh! There's nothing more I can say. I'm must leave this thread, and I'm taking my Linkin Park CD's with me. -
toolboxnj, You're asking people for their opinion and then you procede to argue it. An OPINION. Are you generally interested in what people have to say or are you trying to show off your knowledge of history? And I don't mean this to be hostile, just an observation.
-
No offense taken. My comment was dripping with sarcasm. It's fun to sound simple after an in depth historical debate.

Maybe he's actually refering to Drusilla in Buffy The Vampire Slayer? Maybe he's a big Buffy fan? Did anyone ever consider that?

"While We Were Hunting Rabbits" is about when he was ten years old and his uncle took him rabbit hunting in the woods around Seymour Mountain. He killed one rabbit that day, but it was the first and only time he has ever willfully killed something and it's haunted him ever since. Actually that's a lie. I made it up.

These were some great years in music, all my high school years. But I'm even going to back it up a few years to '91. That was when grunge broke and all the cool bands opened up the radio for the above mentioned bands. Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, STP, Alice in Chains. Al lot of people now talk about how grunge is overrated, but when it hit it was more than just the music. Everything on TV was Gun n Roses and hair metal and shit like that. Then grunge came and it was a whole new look and a raw powerful sound. Unless you remember listening to those albums when it was new, then I don't think you can really get it. PS - Before Nirvana's Nevermind, my favorite artist was Bryan Adams thanks to my parents. (Although no disrespect to Bryan Adams, he rocks in a different way.)

The problem with Natalie Portman in Star Wars is that she wasn't allowed to act. But when she acts, she's fantastic. And oh so pretty.

Linkin Park

Yes, hearing a whole ablum makes your opinion more credible than someone who's heard a couple songs on the radio. And yes, I will agree that the songs on the first album aren't very different, but their sound progresses on the second. And it's good for what it is. And Linkin Park does not sound like Nickleback, come on! I know Likin Park may not be the most unique band, but Nickleback? I can't see a musical resemblance. Besides the use of a guitar, maybe. Anyway, I like Linkin Park. Whether it's "cool" or not. -

Check out his site to hear some of the new EP's he released over last year. You can only buy them online but they're definitely worth it. The Best: Get Your Hands Off Of My Woman (Darkness cover) All U Can Eat Wandering -
Linkin Park

Four songs? I don't think that's enough to really clasify a band. Especially if they're just the singles, which I'm guessing is the case. But if you personally don't like them based on that, that's you right. And Linkin Park were not a pre-packaged deal. That's a load of crap. Show me the link or the story and then we'll talk. And don't say "if you like Linkin Park you have bad taste in music." You sound like an idiot. I have great taste in music, but I like a lot of music. Some of it may not be "cool" (like Linkin Park) but I don't give a shit. Rant over. -
It's a quote from Garden State. You have to see it!

To me it sounded like the record company wants to put out a best of but Matt could really care either way. At least that's the impression I got from the post. Although I think that interest in the band and Matt Good has sort of faded from the mainstream, which is the exact people they target with best of's. He still has a huge fan base, but most of the fans already own all the albums. That being said, I'd probably still buy a best of.

Hate Natalie Portman? I don't get it. She's so good. Oh, unless you're going by the Star Wars movies, but that's just not fair. You can't help but love her in Garden State.

Pure shit? The new Batman film with Christian Bale looks great! And a political thriller with Jack Nicholson and the long awaited gay Robin storyline! They both sound like winners to me.

I would love to go to an acoustic tour. Last time I saw Matt Good at the Commodore, the show was excellent, but the crowd was awful. I like to go see a good band play and I really hate it when a bunch of drunken assholes just jump around and yell stupid stuff. I realize it's almost inevitable at shows, and to a point it's fine, but there's always someone who takes it too far. Hopefully an acoustic show would just draw the real fans that want to see him play and not just get drunk for a rock show, any rock show.

Back on topic, I also like the new blog. It's fun to hear silly little stories about shaving. He and Jenny sound fun. And I really don't blame Matt for taking a break. I fully believe that if you don't agree with something, then speak up. But there are a lot of people in the world that can't be reasoned with and it's a really frustrating side of humanity to deal with. I don't like to deal with it so I try to surround myself with intelligent people who's opinions I can respect. I also think it's funny that sometimes on this forum people are really critical of Matt, and then when he responds, they totally back down. So let's please keep it intelligent and respectfull. Just my $0.02

Back when I was just a teenager in Kelowna I used to get CFOX on cable radio, I would hear all the early stuff from "Astronauts" when only the FOX played it. I always thought it was really good but didn't want to buy the album because I didn't have money and didn't know if it would all be good. Then when "Everything is Automatic" came out I bought Underdogs right away. Everything else soon followed. Anyone else want to share?

toad we wouldnt have world hunger if those pple lived were the fucking food is. for christ sakes the live in a fucking desert. dont send the food and water. send the U-Hauls and luggage so they can get the fuck outta the goddamn desert. That's perhap one of the stupidest and most narrow-minded posts I've ever seen on this bored. I hope you're just joking. Also, please read your posts first. It's kinda hard to take somone seriously when letters are missing from every other word. -
I'm still standing by my thought of voting for the person who you want to represent you. But of course it's not that simple. I don't want a conservative government, so even if the Conservative candidate in my riding it great, it's still going to take a lot to get me to vote for him/her. Chances are that if they're representing a party who's values don't match mine, then I'm not going to vote that way. But I think voting for the person who's really going to represent you could work. Even if it's a person who's party seems bad, but they want to bring change to the party, that could still be a good thing. Although in the end it's still politics and it's still going to take a lot to change things.

I think it's a winner as long as Jack Nicholson plays the Joker again and at some point yells "You can't handle the truth!"
