Point well said & i agree with most of it. I agree that many times you do need further skills after you graduate from a university, but at the same time the majority of people who attend university are looking to make a career out of the knowledge they attain. Universities just aren't the "Plato sitting in a courtyard with his students debating philosophy & enlightening one's mind" concept they originally were. I'm just saying yeah you don't get all the complete tools in university to make you 100% ready to work the day after graduation, but the intent for people going to uni is to acquire what is needed to attain the job they want. Sidenote: there's a HUGE misconception that college is for dumb people & universities are where the smart people go. I hate that.

I agree that "the next logical step after high school is university" idea is bogus for a lot of people. But why didn't my teachers & guidance councilors in high school tell me this?!? Why did they push so hard for university? I don't know. A B.A. is worth quite little in terms of actually getting a job. But if universities are all about learning & expanding the mind, why do they have grades? Who the hell would spend $30,000 (or double that amount if you move away from home) for some education that you could get at a library for free? If you're in anything but an Arts program, its still mostly a job factory. Engineer, doctor, basically anything to do with science, math, & business. People in Arts programs i don't think know what they're getting into. I didn't finish my degree & have thought about going back but i'm only really interested in history or political science, which doesn't seem worth the money to me. I'll probably end up going to a community college to get the skills i need. If i'm interested in history i can still go to a community college & get that knowledge much, much cheaper. IMO teachers & high schools aren't telling the students what the real deal is & in my case they really pushed us towards university as if it was just the next assumed step after high school if you had good grades.

Whether we should be in Afghanistan or not is up for debate, however the increase spending in improving our military was definately needed because Canada's military had/has deteriorated into a broken piece of garbage over the last few decades. I support our country having the ability to defend itself & keep its soveriegnty without complete & total dependence on other countries such as the U.S. Having the basic military means to defend ones self & respond to domestic emergency situations (ie: Katrina-type disaster) is a must for any soveriegn country. I don't think our 40 year-old Sea King helicopters are up the task. Now whether we use this miliary abroad for peacekeeping means or in hot war zones like Kandahar is another debate entirely. Education-wise, the big hikes in tuition fees should be slowed or stopped. However, free post-secondary education is ridiculas. I don't want to pay $30,000 for your education just so you can drink & party away 3 years of your life, so just take a year off & get a job. Scholarships are great though, & i would support a gov't program that would give free tuition or grants/scholarships to those poorest students who attain certain grades in high school (ie: 80% average). I support funding to those students who are serious about school & NEED the money. Like it or not, Universities are now indeed job factories so free post-secondary school for everyone i don't agree with. If you want to educate yourself WITHOUT the goal of getting a job from it or worrying about the cost, go to the library on your spare time & read/educate yourself on any of the topics you can learn in an Arts program at University. History, philosophy, Shakespeare - you don't need a professor to learn this (though its fun to debate in class...but u can do that on message-boards & chat-rooms these days as we are doing right now - irony!).

The war in Iraq is obiously a big topic in the U.S. for good reason, & a lot of the media we're exposed to is from the U.S. therefore we're exposed to a lot of Iraq talk. However, buy a Canadian newspaper (u live in Ottawa like me, so open up an Ottawa Citizen paper) & you won't see Iraq on the front page too often unless something big happens. Right now a lot of focus is on Afghanistan because its news in Canada when soldiers or ours are killed. Go into the first half-dozen pages though & you'll see Iraq mentioned somewhere. While i agree 100% with you, the reason WHY we don't hear a ton about global poverty, HIV crisis in Africa, genocide etc. is that most of that isn't exactly "news". These are ongoing problems & aren't headline stories & don't sell papers or get TV ratings. In many cases too, people just don't care. Governments don't care about Darfur or Rwanda or the Congo because those situations, no matter how horrific, do not threaten them economically or militarily. If countries did put their military in these genocide countries it would be news. Situations like Iran & North Korea & anything Al-Qaeda says is news because it affects us & we have a stake in it. People dying of AIDS in another continent doesn't affect us so most don't care. That why this world is failing its humanitarian job, because humans are natually self-centered.

that would be a great tatoo actually. LOL. Anyways, for straight lyrics i go with maybe: "Its alright now, take the world & make it your again" or "I'm just a boat on the ocean, i'm just a ship lost at sea" For an image i think the cover of 'Raygun' would be cool, but just as a b&w detailed sketch of the guy & leave the rest out.

"Things are going swimmingly in Afghanistan." - Ann HAHAHAHAAHAAAAA!!!!!!!!! Its been shit from day 1. Thanks to Rumsfeld, the douche. -
Don't agree with him on everything but, like most NDP'ers, at least he's got a good honest heart: That's a recent pic of Layton voting for the official party stance on Canada's role in Afghanistan. The cool thing is notice he's wearing his "Make Poverty History" bracelet! I couldn't even get my own Conservative MP (who i voted for) to even make MPH a part of his official platform last federal election...let alone wear the bracelet!

Hey Anton u got pretty good audio out of that. i hope u used a tripod to record & left the camera so you could watch the show with your own eyes intead of behind the camera. I hate video taping shit but then i feel i miss the experience because my face has been behind a camera the whole time lol. -
Well past his prime??? He's doing his best stuff right now, along with Avalanche. Doesn't need a band, only for backup. Anyways, it took me about 10 years but i finally made my sister a fan of Matt Good. I stick lots of songs & videos of MG on my MySpace, thats about all i can do right now.

(note: i am embarassed that i horribly misspelled 3 words in that last sentence.) Ok i downloaded the album, and have listened to the first 5 songs so far. Pretty good, but they all sound the same. -
7.5/10 Mr. T is awesome, but soooo 5 years ago.

Radiohead is a really good band, but their "genius" is overrated. OK Computer is not the best album ever, not even the top 50.

10/10 Thats an awesome image.
