What Are You Reading?
Moonlight_Graham replied to Matt's topic in Rentals, Television, and Readables
Still reading The Da Vinci Code. trying to finish it. -
Intros: Giant - is classic Man Of Action - it just sounds like everything "revving up"! Apparitions - just from the first 2 words "Say hello" & the chords i love that first couple seconds its so classic. Inescapable Us - just like it can't think of any others off top of head. Outros: Symbolistic White Walls - i love the part "Its all right now, take the world & make it yours again" My Outta Style Is Coming Back - love the part that sounds like futuristic keyboards or whatever While We Were Hunting Rabbits - "I'm just a boat on the ocean, i'm just a ship lost at sea" plus end music.

the U.S. military advertises in lots of places. TV commercials, magazine ads etc. This ain't nothing new. -
How about we call ourselves the "Purple-Pickle Rainbow Gonorrhea Sunshine Club"? seriously, we could take our name from one of the new songs on the album like the 'Champions Of Nothing' or 'Born Losers'. The Underdogs is still pretty good too. though isn't that a user-rank on here?

i can do stuff in Ottawa. So what are we going to do though? Sticking up posters everywhere is good, but we can do more. I think we should all bombard any other forums we visit & stick the new album cover (when it comes out) in our signatures etc. And promote the cd on our myspaces, MSN Messenger taglines etc.
-
Posters just won't do. I think we all need to paint our cars.

Matt "chickening out" of releasing a song because it's too political seems VERY unlikely. Listen too "Pledge of Allegiance", "In A World Called Catastrophe", "21st Century Living", and almost the entire White Light Rock & Roll Review album. He has his reasons for not including the song and I'm sure they're good ones. well, i'm just repeating what Matt himself said about the song. listen to what he says about the song at the very beginning of this performance: And yeah, a personal album will be great. He's been through a lot & it will be cool to hear him express it. But there will be political stuff of course, like Black Helicopter.
-
I disagree. I think the quality of the "Can't Get Shot..." recorded (i have the one from the NF store, dunno if there's another??) is pretty crappy, even for a demo/b-side. It would have been cool to get a high quality version. I'm also upset that "If I Was a Tidal Wave" got cut. Its my favorite demo/b-side Matt has done since WLRRR came out, along with Black Helicopter. I think its an important song, its a wonderful protest song for our time. But the demo he already recorded is of excellent quality so thats great, but Black Helicopter was also recorded very well but its still on the album. Maybe Matt chickened out about releasing it because it is so political, as he mentioned once before he played it live. For me i'd like all new tracks, unless a certain demo song was recorded poorly (like a live track). But "If I Was A Tidal Wave" is one of those songs that i don't want on the album for me (since i've already got a great version), but for other people to hear when they buy the CD. btw i don't really like "The Boy Come Home". I'm down for this "Street Team" thang. I think an internet campaign would be great too. I'll be putting tracks, album info etc. on my MySpace page to get the word out! Too bad Matt took down his official MySpace page. Calling radio stations & MuchMusic/'MTV Canada' (if there's a video) will be key too!

I hate Bill Maher. I remember him when he was just a horrible stand-up comic, before Politically Incorrect. I liked that show though.

Corner Gas Cancelled
Moonlight_Graham replied to Crusader's topic in Rentals, Television, and Readables
saw commercials for this epsiode on CTV yesterday. shows that pretty woman leaving for toronto then driving down the road looking back at her mirror at the fellas. never watched the show myself, but the commercial i believe said "season finale" not "series finale". I took notice because it did seem like a "series finale" type episode. However, i also noticed that i think that chick who left for Toronto also has her own show, i see it on The Comedy Network. I just assumed she was leaving Corner Gas to focus on that show or something. I'm suprised its being cancelled, i thought it was a very popular show?? -
Saw the movie this week for the 1st time. It was cool, but a bit confusing at times with the whole police investigations. I think it could have been done a bit better. Hugo Weaving did an awesome job though. Watched the credits, noticed Alan Moore (who wrote the orginal graphic novel) was not credited anywhere. Did he "dis-own" the movie & not want his name listed or something? Alan Moore rules. I bet the comic is 5x as good as the movie was, always wanted to pick it up.

this is horrible news. Katie Holmes was great. Maggie Gylenhaal creeps me out cuz she looks so much like her brother. But i loved Batman Begins. Possibly the best super-hero comic-to-movie translation ever, maybe even better than Spider-Man. Joker should have been played by Cripsin Glover. That dude is already crazy! And he wouldn't even need any make-up, he looks just like the joker! Plus he's a cool actor. crispin glover pic

The Perfect Album(s)
Moonlight_Graham replied to HoboFactory's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I can only think of one right now: "What's the Story Morning Glory" by Oasis. LOTGA is close, but sometimes i skip "Every Name is My Name" & usually fast forward "The War is Over" to get to "Ommisions o/t Omen". -
Picked up Underdogs when it came out & liked it. My friends' brother had LOTGA which i borrowed from him, and when i listened to that i was just totally blown away and have picked up everything he's done ever since.

Quotes From A Peaceful Islam
Moonlight_Graham replied to heyrabbit's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
just to clarify, i haven't read most of your posts to hobo (or his responses) etc. because its just too much reading. We can call atheism whatever we want. Does the "ism" suffix make atheism a belief? Doesn't matter right now. Whatever atheism is, you want people to change how they think. You believe your thinking is the truth, and their thinking is false. Now there's nothing wrong with thinking people are wrong & forming arguments against it. Thats healthy debate. But my point is that when you go to the point of saying things like "you should be forced to take a skill testing question before being allowed to give birth. "do you believe in god?". ", that is simply being intolerant. No not at all do i think fundamentalists are the only problem. Far from it!! Religion has caused many conflicts, wars, etc. throughout history. Moderates, fundamentalists, everything in-between. all i wanted to know before is why moderates are to blame & fundies not? They are both. This i pretty much agree with. I have a big problem with the way churches themselves do things. I was raised Roman Catholic, and the last sacrament is Confirmation, which we do in grade 6. Thats ridiculas. How can a child confirm his faith when he isn't of the age where he usually begins to question things his parents say. There should be a sacrament in the church when you are like 35 or something, when you are an adult & have gone through most of the phases of questioning your beliefs. Its so convienient that parents/church locks you into catholicism right before entering Jr. High School. And yeah i agree mostly with the whole "parent brain wash thing". But i think it goes hand-in-hand with everything else parents teach kids. Parents pass all their beliefs & lessons to their children, its hard for religious beliefs (being so powerful) not to be included, but its still no excuse. Why not teach them about all other beliefs & let them decide. I still stand by what i said, that parents aren't LYING to their kids. For me, i have thought about what school system i'd send my kids (if i have them). I went through the Roman Catholic school system & had very fun positive experience, and the religion really served me well growing up. But on the other hand, i reject much of what the church preaches & stands for now, so i'm hesitant to put my kid into that system. i hesitantly said that you might be, under definition, a bigot. You inferred that anyone who believes in God shouldn't be allowed to have babies. You called moderates "dangerous idiots". ad hominem. After your above quote, you continue to say: -

I have been through my fair share of shit. About 7 years ago near the end of high school/beginning of university i started suffering from anxiety. At first it was just annoying, some panic attacks & just constant stress/agitation, but over the course of a few years it just wore me down to the point where mentally & physically my body couldn't take it anymore. Call it something like a nervous breakdown, and i was hospitalized for several weeks. When it first began i went to my doctor about it & he gave me Paxil. I disliked (aka feared) the notion of taking a pill which would alter my brain or state of thinking in some way, so i never took the pills. I went back a year later when my anxiety was much worse, my doc gave me another prescription & said i should go see a therapist. I did neither, afraid of the pills again. It got to the point where i hit rock-bottom & was hospitalized, & at that point i of course took the pills & did everything the doctors/therapists recommended. I'm much improved now, but the "nervous breakdown" really affected me & after 4 years i still haven't worked my way back where i can function mentally & physically to 100% as well as i could before (i get fatigued/stressed pretty easily). Moral of my story? If you know you have a problem & you see yourself sliding down the mountain, don't wait until you hit rock-bottom (like i did) to get treatment, because its one hell of longer & tougher climb back up to the top. If you have any sort of mental health problems that haven't gone away for 6 months or more, go seek doctors help. And don't be afraid to take the meds. If you don't trust your doctor 100%, go get a second opinion. Yes in many ways our entire society is over-medicated, but if you are clinically depressed or have schizophrenia etc. its important to get on proper medication as well as seeing a therapist. Serious mental illness is a disease. It will get worse before it gets better. If you have heart disease you take medication for that, so if you have a mental health problem thats affecting your life it needs to be treated also. Talk-therepy is of course very important also, you need both. Some people can get to the point where proper exercise, diet, relaxation/meditation(not medication...MEDITATION) & therepy can help you enough where you can get off the drugs...which is a good thing. Exercise & relaxation/meditation (again, different from "medication") has done the most wonders for me. To Daedalus, my friend you are not crazy. You gotta stop telling yourself that. You suffer from mental illness or disorders, and don't give up hope that its not completely treatable. I had a friend who had schizophrenia, and once she found the proper meds & psychologist she was fine. You aren't crazy. You obviously seem like a compassionate, thoughful, logical, analytical, & empathetic person. yeah you may have the occasional bad lapse, but you just gotta ride that bad wave & come out the other side.

unless your going to make 3x as much money!! I'd go for it, unless there's some other reason you don't want to go to your hometown (parents suck, ex-boyfriend or somethin'). I'd seriously just make all the money you can before you get sick of the job, then u can quit. You never know you may even like it & meet some new friends.
