  1. I dunno, maybe it irks me that this kind of article sounds like something I'd read in a Cosmo, to make women feel like anyone"can be easily a dom or sub. Maybe I used to like the idea that my fetishes were truly fetishes, and now, anyone girl with fuzzy handcuffs and a wooden spoon is a "dom". It's cool that people are more adventurous now, but it's also not cool that a lot of people don't think about how or why this stuff is "hot", they just follow along because the magazines all say how hot it is. This is how people get hurt, because they don't know how to be play safely and properly. Is Sarah a legit top? I'd personally be less inclined to want to read her "how-to" article, if she's not. Also, I prefer: Hyperbole And A Half
  2. Owen, you know I love you, but to be 100% honest, I find this article's excerpt to be kind of poorly written. It's not engaging, it patronizes the reader and it sounds like the Slap-Chop guy wrote it. Please don't yell at me. :/
  3. So, a really well-loved comic book store in Yaletown, Elfsar, is closing down, due to a HUGE rent hike. they had a buy 1 get 1 trades offer so I picked up * Fables vols 8-12, and one of their spin-offs "1001 Nights of Snowfall". Once I get vol 13, I'll be caught up, and I'll have to wait for Nov for the next one ;) * Lucifer, vol 1. Looked cool on the shelf, hope it's good * Marvel Ultimates Vols 1 and 2 * Classic Gambit We also bought one of their huge comic book cases (I'm pretty sure they're just from Ikea, but still, it's only $30 and I'll finally have a place for my growing collection, not to mention more room for Kevin's transformers XD)
  4. 3 yrs? I thought it was one. See? Confusing! XD Regardless, we've been living together, with a joint account, for 4 yrs come October. I guess next yr we should start filing our taxes together... And our landlord is collecting 1 cheque, coming from a joint bank account.
  5. Really? I just finished the book and I heard it deviates quite a bit. Also, fyi, 9 isn't Tim Burton's movie, he's just producing it. 9 started out as a short film, with no dialogue. I saw it a couple yrs ago at an animation festival, and it was awesome. When I saw the trailer for this new 9, I was extremely disappointed.
  6. Well, we're going to split the $1000 between us, does that count? See, I've always been so fuzzy with the common law rules. Kevin's been freaking out recently that we're going to get in trouble for not claiming common law for tax reasons.
  7. So, I met with my mum yesterday and she gave me more info on how this is going to go down. She says that because she can't get tax breaks if she rents it below market rate to a family member, she wants to rent it to Kevin. She clarified that that apartment is going to continue being hers until she (God forbid) leaves here, then it'll be stipulated to me in her will. In terms of a head start on our own home, she says she will cover the down payment. I saw this apartment yesterday and despite warnings not to fall in the love with the first apartment I saw, I totally did ;) On the corner of Robson & Burrard! That apartment is perfect, it's in a SWEET location, and even tho the building is 26 yrs old, the inside looks beautiful, the amenities are sweet and the apartment is HUGE (I haven't seen any other apartments that are right in DT proper, that are that 600+ sq ft). I'm so worried it'll be taken by the time we're ready to buy  She says she gets paid for the rental home June 30th, so the earliest we can start looking is July. She's gonna charge us $1000/mo, forever, as long as we cover any incidental maintenance (Carpet cleaning, extra plumbing, damages, etc.). Nervous!
  8. The album definitely grows on you. I had to give it a few listens before I started getting into it. It's definitely a lot more serious. This album actually got me to accept Kevin as a vocalist. "Hidden Sun" was never my favourite before, and I thought Kevin was a weak singer. I LOVE that Jim is getting songs now, because I've always been a fan of The Brothers Creeggan. I want to pick up "A Singer Must Die", I didn't know it was out! ;) I went to the UBC AMS Block Party (formerly the Arts County Fair), since BNL were headlining and had it not been for the completely retarded drunken losers making my life a living hell for an hour and a half, I gotta say, Ed really picked up the lead vocal role really well. He sings Old Apartment like a pro, and What A Good Boy was surprisingly good. And nothing beats seeing/hearing Ed beatbox live <3
  9. Having recently become kind of enamoured with Korean culture, I picked up a couple common drinking games through watching Korean dramas, going to Korean restaurants. Flick the Strip Koreans like to drink soju, which is like Korean vodka. It's SO wonderful to drink. Love it. Anyway, when you open a bottle of soju, there's a little strip of metal on the cap, that generally gets stuck to the cap. Everyone takes turns trying to flick the strip off. The one who flicks it off, has to take a drink. Lucky Number After you play flick the strip, the person who had to take a drink will take a look inside the cap, and there's a number inside. Everyone takes turns guessing the number, and the person says "lower or higher". The person to guess the right number, has to drink the number that's under the cap. They're kinda simple, but it's actually kinda cute to watch all the tables of young koreans play around us XD
  10. I like rough, grizzled hands ;) haha my vibe is called "the pink sharpie", because one time, I left it on the computer desk and forgot to put it away when friends came over. My friend, who's a huge graffiti guy, picked it up and was like "OOHH, cool! A big fat sharpie!" and he tried to take the "cap" off, and turned it on and he looked like he wanted to die when he realised what it was XD
  11. I guess I can be somewhat old school sometimes, when it comes to masturbation, I guess.
  12. I like my men pretty metro, but guys who get mani/pedis....ugh. That's a little too "Vampire Weekend" for me, if you know what I mean. That kind of reminds me how I was looking at some women at my campus, who get epic manicures, with the huge nails and everything and I think "man...you guys probably don't masturbate."
  13. Ragged nails would drive me insane.
  14. Definitely. I always noticed that whenever he did anything "monsterly" it was always with a great wringing of hands. I could nearly feel the desperation he felt. Perhaps it's because I identify a little. Not with the affinity for young girls, but rather the desperate, aching need. I acknowledge the argument my friend had, about Lolita's actions. She brings up a good point, that Lolita acted in the only way she could, in order to "take charge" of a situation where she's effectively helpless. I do understand that, but at the same time, at the risk of being colloquial, she's such a spoiled little bitch ;) It's hard to see her as a victim.
  15. Did I just miss a conversation about Lolita? That's one of my favourite books. Just finished re-reading it about a month ago. Owen's right, it's Humbert Humbert's humanity and upbringing, that really makes Lolita. It's funny, though, everyone I've spoken to, who's also read the book, are always so horrified when I say I identify and feel so sad for HH. I've always likened it a bit to Margaret Atwood's "Alias Grace", in terms of debate over who's guilty and not. Right now, I'm reading "The Lovely Bones". I had dismissed it as shitty chicklit, but it's turning out pretty engaging.
  16. Oooh, that one looks interesting. I'll put it on my list. I'm at vol 7 of Fables and I'm so happy I've found this series. It's like this comic was made for me. So excited about the rumors of it becoming a TV show. And did y'all hear about Walking Dead becoming an AMC series? I'm excited and apprehensive about how that'll turn out. And who hear has read Scott Pilgrim and seen the trailer for the movie? I was never enthusiastic about Michael Cera and now having seen the trailer, am even less enthusiastic. Everything else in the movie looks awesome, though.
  17. So, has anyone picked up the new BNL album? I'm interested in hearing people's thoughts about it.
  18. haha it kinda looks like a decal on your chest XD
  19. At the risk of being too forward, that was kind of hot.
  20. I procrastinate on little things like picking up my clothes, folding laundry... Which is weird, because I'm such a hardass when it comes to working efficiently at my job, or planning events for/with friends. I have a bad habit of talking about J a lot, around Kevin. And asking for/demanding sex, as opposed to being sexy and seductive.
  21. I just finished reading Sam Kieth's "My Inner Bimbo" and my God, I feel like I just went to Psych 100 and Female Empowerment 100 all in one.
  22. Anton: I'm fine if you want to put it in the Open Discussions forum So, my mum tells me she sold the house, no idea how much she got, but she's sticking to her 350 guns. She says we'll start looking seriously in June, since that's when she'll be paid for the house. So, I guess I've got a good amount of time to look. In case anyone cares, we're looking at places like this And you're right about the separate storage. Right now, we're using the small room as storage. That kinda sucks, because it makes our apartment feel really tiny...
  23. Cut the thread and make it a new one, Anton! ;)
  24. See, that's what I was worried about, looking at something now, because I know we have to wait until the house is sold and stuff. I figured if I looked now, I'd fall in love with something and then have it not available when the time comes to buy. Also, I looked at what 350 can get me in DT, and so far it's 500sq, 1 bedroom. :/ Is it snobby to say I don't want to live in anything old? >.> I'm spoiled living where I live now... EDIT: Sorry for hijacking this thread with all this real estate talk!
  25. 1.5 bathrooms, separate storage and a parking space...in downtown...for 350? Seriously? I don't think I can find that anywhere in DT. It's gotta have in-suite laundry too. My mum said something about waiting for the interests rates to go up, because then all the apartment prices are gonna go down... I dunno if that's true or not. My mum's the type to say stuff like "Wait until last minute to buy your flight tickets", and end up making us pay an extra few hundred bucks because we didn't book early enough ;)
