  1. When I listened to the bootleg I was happy that Machine Gun was similar to the original (even though he said he changed a few things, it still sounded true to the original to me anyway), but i was also happy that he changed up Omissions. I felt like the strumming version he did on previous tours didn't translate as well live. The version I heard from Calgary seemed to be a bit better for some reason. Overall another great setlist and glad to see he's mixing it up a bit.
  2. That is a pretty fucking awesome setlist. I hope he'll keep playing Boy & His Machine Gun because I would definitely love to hear that... Also happy to see Silent Army return. I'm listening to the recording that girl uploaded. Shame so many people are talking during the show. The version of Omissions of the Omen he played at the end was fucking awesome. I think better than the one I saw live a couple years ago.
  3. Matt - I understand what you're saying about the economics/time getting in the way of a 20+ minute song on what's expected to be a full length album with 8 to 10 songs. Have you ever thought about or has the label ever mentioned recording another EP? That's kind of a better place to experiment with stuff like a 20 minute track. I know that traditionally EPs are short, but a longish EP I always think of from not too long ago is All Delighted People by Sufjan Stevens. It was marketed as an EP and sold at a cheaper price, but it was nearly an hour in length. It did contain a couple of different versions of one track and also some "non commercial" stuff, like a 17 minute song featuring wacky guitars throughout. Side note - I'm not gonna lie. Bad Pennies is on the playlist that I use when I go out for a run. I totally get that it's a joke and it'll never be recorded, but there's something about it I'll always like.
  4. Question: Will anything that you scrapped from the first batch of demos resurface later in the new stuff? I don't mean to say whole songs, but more like parts of songs, guitar riffs, tone, etc. Was the reason for the scrapping more because it didn't fit the feel you want for the next album, or you literally just didn't like what you ended up with? I think the reason I'm asking is because I thought you had some kickass riffs going in Something Like A Storm.
  5. I'm a big fan of the...I'm gonna call it a movement...beginning at 9:12. The slow build with the acoustic and the progression of the boomy drums and the synths...into the big crunch guitars. Love that tone. It's so great. I wish the part beginning at 10:23 were extended somehow. I really love the demo. Like I said earlier, I love long musical pieces and this would be a new departure for Matt. One definitely worth taking if he thinks he can pull it off.
  6. The thought of Matt Good putting out a 20+ minute track is too fucking cool. This coming from a huge fan of Yes and similar prog rock bands who routinely put out tracks of that length. *Hopes* This could be Matt's 2112 ^_^
  7. If you had put Born to Kill and Fearless on the same setlist that would have made it easy. As it stands, I'm having a hard time deciding! Side note, I was listening to Man of Action this morning while i was getting ready for work and it just really hit the spot. I hadn't listened to it in a while but sometimes it just feels so right.
  8. Damn! I might have gone to that Buffalo show, but I'm leaving from NYC on a trip the next day. Blargh. Bad timing.
  9. Is it on a canvas or is it framed? I can't tell. I'd love to hang that in my apartment.
  10. Wow. Nice. I really like this direction. He hasn't done all that much acoustic since Hospital Music so it's nice to hear that again.
  11. I don't actually own a vinyl player, but I intend to get one at some point. I don't think I'd buy every MG album on Vinyl, but if I had to choose one I'd go with either Avalanche or Hospital Music. Very cool that this could be happening.
  12. Great job by Matt to post about this on his website. He linked to it via Facebook.
  13. Wow. Terrible. Seems he had Multiple Sclerosis (I'm reading sodamntired's thread in the Showcase Revue board). So very sad for someone so young. I echo Jesse's sentiments. Did not really interact with him, but we all share the bond of a love of music. Losing someone in the community is very sad, and I am sure his family is going through hell. I hope that he is at peace. Ugh.

    Live Road

Even if someone yells fuck you, I believe you need to try and shake that off. There are plenty of other people there having a good time the right way. Why punish them. The one douchebag shouldn't get the last laugh. They should also locate and eject the heckler, but we don't live in a perfect world.

How can one complain about something that is free?

    Live Road

Sounds like them playing in a tiny bar with plenty of fan participation. I kinda like it.

    Live Road

Hey Matt. First thanks for the LiveRoad stuff. It has been a nice treat, and some small consolation for the US tour getting nixed (I was so looking forward to the New York show as I always do). Knowing Born to Kill is being considered for an upcoming show is awesome, and it being included in LiveRoad would be even more amazing if you guys threw that together, but I didn't need to tell you that. Second, thanks for explaining the mic situation. Very interesting. Third, in regards to acoustic shows being released, I remember the Smashing Pumpkins recorded every single show on their anniversary tour in 2008. The shows were available for free download for those that attended these shows (I saw them in NY, so the night I went that download was free), but the other performances were available for purchase for those that did not attend those shows. I forget how they tracked this. The audio quality was pretty good, I would say similar to your LiveRoad stuff, but a few notches below your Live at Massey Hall album. Anyway, I have about 4 of those performances downloaded and I'm happy to have them. I think it definitely adds a great element to a tour, if it can be pulled off. Being someone that listens to bootlegs on occasion, and not minding the quality usually, I would be very excited to get some acoustic shows released in their entire form. Even if every single show wasn't released, I'm sure some fans would be satisfied with one. Hah, don't let me ruin it for everyone.
  18. The label would probably not want him to produce a country album. Isn't that also why his previous label insisted Hopeless be a secret track?
  19. I wouldn't mind another acoustic-based album akin to Hospital Music. I think that's when he's at his best. It probably wouldn't be as personal or gut-wrenching this time though.

    Live Road

I don't think that's what they were going for. It's pretty awesome. We never thought we'd hear this song live, let alone full band!

    Live Road

I'm happy they haven't put up any repeats yet. I'm kinda curious to hear Last Parade and Via Dolorosa.

Not trying to start some raging debate here. I was just making an observation.

    Live Road

The more I listen to these LiveRoad recordings, the more I think they are awesome! I am really liking the subtle differences between the album and live versions in the new songs, particularly Had It Coming and We're Long Gone. They sound like they'd be really fun to hear live. Oh and of course the keyboard is incredible. Also, is this a different lead guitarist than on the LOES tour? I remember thinking the lead guitar was kind of sloppy in a lot of those performances I heard from back then. Seems a lot tighter on this tour.
