  1. When I heard the recording of Mutineering on Youtube I thought of The Fall of Man.
  2. Unfortunately no. Such a great song!
  3. Am I the only one who gets the impression that it's mostly an MG record except for Carmelina, The Fall of Man, Under The Influence and Antipop? Really good record still. It's a shame Matt doesn't like it. I'd love to hear Man of Action with his current band or The Rat who Would Be King.
  4. Velvet Rope Interviews Matthew Good
  5. For Mutineering I don't think that Prism and Edward Snowden had anything to do with it as Matt wrote and recorded the album last year. Plus, he wrote some of the lyrics on his facebook page in August 2012: But I can see it with Bradley Manning though.
  6. Oh nice! Thanks :)
  7. Is it going to be broadcasted of put on the web or something?
  8. Matthew Good on Shaw TV
  9. Ahh there you go! Indeed you can also find Bridgeburner Music and Dunharrow Music in the other records. Once again Chris, your knowledge enlightens us! ;)
  10. That was part of my hypothesis. Isn't SOCAN only in Canada? If so, maybe he grabbed the occasion to set the record straight in the rest of the world IF credit wasn't due. Or it could be a mistake but it would be quite a big one. And I believe Paul suggested McCartney/Lennon and they fought over it... I think I heard him say that in an interview. But I could be wrong. ;)
  11. Maybe there's a difference between coming up with such riffs and actually writing a song. But Matt would explain it better because I don't know how it works. I do remember Geoff Lloyd not being too happy to hear that Matt had apparently authorized Simple Minds to use Indestructible for their song "Cry" because he came up with the bassline. But he would not go any further because it was too personnal. But if you search in the Ask Geoff thread you can find the message. Giant though has always been played the same as on the record except for the solo. But I think that's just Matt giving complete creative freedom to the players. Jimmy plays the Non Populus solo differently as well. Pat used to improvise as well on his drum fills. And Christian used to play Load Me Up differently because Matt said he didn't like the riff at the time. So I think the live portion has more to do with them being creative than with writing credits. But is it only while you're ripping the disc or is it not credited in the liner notes?
  12. Well I'm not complaining I'm just saying I wish there were more! ;) I totally agree, Non Populus is one of those songs that Matt writes that just stands out of everything else. Letters in Wartime tends to almost get there but not quite. But it is epic nonetheless. I have had this song in my head all week!
  13. All songs even in MGB were actually written by Matt and some were credited to Good/Genn. Matt explained that there was a lot of that sort of "politics" in the band where people would be credited where they shouldn't have been and that includes the songs credited to all four members. In MGB, as with his solo career, Matt wrote the bulk of the songs and the band would add their own flavour. The lead on Giant and Load Me Up for instance were in fact created by Dave Genn. The bass line/drums of Indestructible was created by Geoff Lloyd and Ian Browne. And so on. That is why songs are not credited to Good/Genn on AOB. I think Matt had enough and decided he would give credit where due only and that was on Tripoli, The Fall of Man and Under the Influence. The remainder was credited solely to Matt. From what I understand that was part of why the band broke up. I remember when I ran the official French MGB website back in 2001; I put up the Audio of Being tracklisting before the record came out and followed the same pattern as with Underdogs and Beautiful Midnight which was to write “All songs written by Good/Genn except where noted” and added a note to The Fall of Man and Under the Influence. Matt wrote me an email that very night telling me to remove this notice and replace it by “All songs written by Matthew Good except where noted” which was Tripoli, The Fall of Man and Under the Influence. Of course, being clueless as to what was going on in the band and how the band worked, I was surprised at how fast this happened and felt bad for putting this up early. I was young, I learned! :P Therefore, my theory would be that if Dave wasn't credited in Old Fighters on songs he originally was, maybe that's because he wasn't supposed to be in the first place and that, given that Old Fighters was released everywhere except Canada, maybe Matt had the opportunity to set the record straight. Now this is only a theory based on things Matt did explain in the past. Matt could explain it if he wants. But given it's all kind of personal stuff; I doubt that you will have an official answer.
  14. Alright, he's done it. I've been listening to this in loop since the stream last week. Bought it on the day it came out (as I did for every record he's made since Beautiful Midnight having discovered MGB after Everything is Automatic came out so I was late for Underdogs, Raygun and LOTGA :P). But he's done it again! I listen to every single bloody song on this record! It's not a concept album but every song complements the others like White Light Rock 'n' Roll Review or Beautiful Midnight. It feels like A record. Garden of Knives is one of the best songs he's ever written along with the likes of Weapon, Avalanche, Empty's Theme Park, Non Populus and so on. I just wish it was longer!
  15. Yup I agree with that too.
  16. Lyrics! Lyrics! Lyrics! Lyrics! Lyrics! Lyrics! Lyrics! Lyrics! :tp: I wish that thing said "lyrics" instead of "Off Topic". I had a protest chant in mind... anyway
  17. Ahh thanks for the... tip ;-) I've been playing guitar for almost 20 odd years and I couldn't understand how he could change a head as in where the string are tied! lol All the (very few) amps I've had (I'm not a professionnal) have been a one piece like the second example you gave me.
  18. Thanks for the insight! I look forward to these everytime you release an album since 2001 (with the APA, APH and all the other fan boards you've participated on). You talk about "guitar heads" and "bass heads". Are you taling about the actual head where the string are tied it is it a figure of speech? It's always the artist that gets the least amount of money and that is a bloody shame. My wife is an author and we both know she'll never make a living out of writing. Publishers, distributors and the book store all make a bigger percentage than the author. From what you say, it seems to be the same thing for musicians. Even though, without musicians or authors, there are no music industry or book industry. there's just nothing.
  19. Everyone should go listen to the snippets of recording the record on YouTube after hearing the record. It's really interesting to see how it was built especially when you hear what's it's become since the recording of each layer.
  20. Matt the one thing I've always loved about your music is that you always try out new things. This is a rock record but not a bland rock record. You have interesting sounds on every track (adding Anthony with all the sound effects was a great thing), the mixing and production are awesome (the way Garden of Knives sounds for example is absolutely sublime). You have different styles as well on the same record. No one can equate the Had It Coming to Garden of Knives of Mutineering, the sound of Hey Hell Heaven to Letters in Wartime and so on. That's something you've always done I think. LOES is a magnificient example of that too. Not too many similarities between, say, Non Populus, Zero Orchestra and How It Goes. That's one of your strenghts. But why do you say "Truth be told, this will be the first record since 1999 to debut outside of the top 5 – and probably outside of the top 10 – which is saying something given how low debut numbers are these days."? How can you tell? Is it a gut feeling of based on pre-sales and such?
  21. Looking forward to getting the lyrics (hoping they'll be printed in the inlet and/or posted soon on mg.org) It's a great album. A good mix of every rock aimed songs Matt's done. But there's a finish that I just love. The instrumentation of Guns of Carolina is magnificient (for a song I didn't really like when I heard the acoustic version). I can't really get my head around parts of Via Dolorosa and So Close. They're a little all over the place. I'll have to listen to them more (which is sometimes needed). Garden of Knives I think is one of my favourite songs from MG ever and Mutineering close second to being my favourite song off the record, tied with Guns of Carolina. We're long gone is great and Letters in wartime and Hey Hell Heaven are pretty good too. Arrows of Desire is interesting. The sound of the guitar, the way the bass and the drums are mixed. I quite enjoy it. Had it coming is ok but I liked it a lot at first. It'll take a little time before it blends in with the rest of the album for my ears (which is a reason I don't buy singles. I like whole albums)
  22. Nice one!
  23. Well then tell them to make one for Garden of Knives! Just kidding. ;) Seriously though that should have been the first or maybe second single for sure!
  24. Thanks Anton. I'll be on the lookout for more! ;)
  25. Yeah I was surprised too. Great interview though. LiveMusicTO http://www.livemusicto.com/1/post/2013/09/interview-with-matthew-good.html
