This is what I'll be using for a record sleeve on my MP3 (I'd like to get rid of the mention of the Gentlemen Husband but it's really not important :P)
-
What does he say at the beginning of Via Dolorosa? I hear "This is for my friend Jeff".
-
Manchalivin: Revenge is the title of a song MGB played back in 1995 or 1996 on MuchMusic. There was an excerpt shown on I think the Much More Music Bio. The lyrics went I think about it all the time (inaudible) you are what you eat, not what you preach Geoff had a copy on VHS and said he would eventually publish it online.
-
Oh yeah! :P Anthony is a one-man orchestra!
-
I didn't even remember these :P
-
Oh yes the rhythm is similar but you can hear the transition from the higher tone to the lower. On the record it's only five hits. But this is of course geeky trivial stuff ya know! Song's still good live and I'm happy he did it! ;)
-
Riley: Steel metal? Shane: Not exactly. He goes from the highest tone to the lowest and ends with the cymbal. On the record, I believe the sound was done by timbales. But nevertheless there's a difference in the sound of it.

It's good to hear Rabbits. The acoustic version was OK but did not make it justice. This full band version is better but there are two things that I don't like : 1- No acoustic guitar 2- The drum fill that Blake does. The drum fill on the record always was, to me, sort of a soldier march (as it 'Until now I was a soldier'). But what Blake does is just a normal drum fill with a symbal crash at the end. I would have liked them to keep that soldier like drum fill. Plus Blake's got two floor tomtom's so it could have been done. But it's not my call so I'll just enjoy having a full band version (which, I want to be clear, is by no means not good!).

Arrows Of Desire Led Me To Listening To Aob Again And...
Outtahere replied to Outtahere's topic in Matthew Good
daniel_v : I was referring to the influence the other band members may or may not have had on Matt music. By "MG record" vs "MGB record" what I meant is that most of AOB could have been released under the Matthew Good name with other musicians except the three songs I mentionned that fit more the MGB sound and style. But that's not saying I don't hear what the other band members did (like you mentionned Dave's lead guitar playing which was one thing I missed when I first heard Avalanche as Matt and Dave' styles are different). But, by no means did I mean that in a bad way. It's more that now that we've heard what Matt does as a solo artist, I feel a lot of AOB (and Loser Anthems for that matter) is more or less a transition to his solo career in the sense that I hear less of the band member's influence on the music than before. Of course, not being part of the band, what do I know really? This is merely an opinion! ;-) -
No me neither. But The Edge is ONE example of ONE song of all I've heard. Not saying he's not a great guitarist. I'm just saying that on the last tour he wasn't as tight as the other who have worked with Matt and that now he seems to be without leaving the improvisation freedom out. Plus being able to play the way that he does and move the way that he does, he has to be an awesome guitarist!
-
Gomo, RileyLewis: Yeah it's the same guy. I do remember on the LOES tour him playing some part wrong on songs, notably Weapon (he missed the solo beginning of it in Montreal...) and the beginning of the solo for Non Populus on The Edge. But his performance got better and his playing on the record is great. Matt was talking about this in recent interviews but he doesn't like the perfection aspect of rock nowadays. Maybe Jimmy's guitar playing represents that in a way: he's an awesome guitarist, jumps up and down, runs around the stage and sometimes he plays wrong but who cares as it is part of playing music anyway? Anyway, I don't know his history and this is in no way bashing as he is very very good and pretty tight now and he's an excellent entertainer! You can see he's having a lot of fun!

Is it just me or did he get rid of his Flickr and Instagram accounts?
-
Lets not forget the length of the songs. A lot of those songs are over 7 minutes long. Plus most of the setlist is comprised of the new record which is only normal. I think the fact that he plays almost the whole record is great. My personnal feeling were he to change the setlist would be to drop Hello Time Bomb and Load Me Up. But that's only because there are so many of his songs I like more than these two and I know he probably has to do the hit singles.

The sound is annoying but this is good:

AnOceanPearl, Manchalivin: Totally agree!
-
Am I the only one who loves that Blake does back vocals?
-
Ah indeed! "You barely got out of that one" Thanks! :)
-
What does he say in "So Close" after the first chorus? It sounds like "Billy's got a lot more" but I would doubt it. Been a while since we've heard him say random things in songs like that!
-
Yeah I was waiting for Garden of Knives live and it's bloody awesome! Now if they can post While We Were Hunting Rabbits I'll be happy :P
-
I think he might be talking about We Are a Place which, I believe, he removed from the record when he wrote Non Populus.
-
Oh yeah me too, exactly the same (this and We Are a Place). The song has little lyrics but it's absolutely awesome!

I haven't seen the lyrics to For and Against. So I tried to lay them down. Do you guys reckon those are pretty accurate? There's something happening in my home town Folks are building up things they used to have torn down My granddaddy used to say the neighbors should have a key to your front door So how come now that I'm a man this ain't the sort of place he laid his life down for? Who are you and where do you come from? There's a darken night there and sometimes in the day do you miss the sun? Do you feel like it's easier to choke? Like breathing's just a trick to make you feel a part of something, Like everything's a trick to make you feel a part of something To feel your head, hit your heart, hear yourself scream Still alive but set up to die (For and against the same thing) The wind it blows, the ocean throws, the world waits sleeping Inside this cage, ancient heart (For and against the same thing) The way you move against my skin gives me needing The way we were is the way we are (For and against the same thing) There's something happening in my home town Folks are hearing voices but they never make no sound Do you feel like it's easier to choke? Like breathing's just a trick to make you feel a part of being knocked down, set back up, knocked down again To feel your head, hit your heart, hear yourself scream Still alive but set up to die (For and against the same thing) The wind it blows, the ocean throws, the world waits sleeping Inside this cage, ancient heart (For and against the same thing) Like the way you move against my skin gives me needing The way we were is the way we are (For and against the same thing) The way we were is the way we are (For and against the same thing) Yeah the way we were is the way we are (For and against the same thing)

Awesome idea! 10 bucks says he's going to receive emails complaining about how slow it is before new music is posted... I just hope he doesn't give it up because of those people who think everything is due to them for free and in a timely manner...

Arrows Of Desire Led Me To Listening To Aob Again And...
Outtahere replied to Outtahere's topic in Matthew Good
Exactly! I knew for the writing credits thing but now that his solo career is so far I can actually hear the difference (which shows how much I listen to AOB :P).
