  1. Yeah, one could argue (Matt included I think) that my post is a sign of the times as people didn't even get insights into studios in the past. But as a music nerd it's so cool to see how a record is done. Nice one! Great memories! :) Yeah I wonder why they were deleted to. But they were great. The recording of multiple tracks, how it's done and all. I watched them more than once. Then, the fun part: hearing those recordings on the actual record and trying to find the snippets in the finished song... well I'm a music nerd so to me it's the fun part anyway :P That is true! I was hoping he'd say that.
  2. I wish they were actual small insights into the recording process like last time and not just images with the single playing over it. That last one seems interesting. Maybe it's because he can't let us hear any snippets of songs. But still it's a little disappointing.
  3. It's a very solid rock record but it does contain one of the best songs he's ever done which is Garden of Knives. I just wish it had more meaningful lyrics.
  4. I agree that the song isn't spectacular but it's OK. That being said, no he doesn't care about radio play and never really did. He's not a "I have to write this song so it'll be radio friendly". He just writes songs. But there's a nice melody on that song and the rhythm is mainly done with guitar riffs. But Hornets would have been a better choice IMO.
  5. Yeah the pictures are nice indeed. The song is pretty much the demo without the bells (which I think he should have left on). So no big surprise if you were an M+ member back in 2010. Still a good song though. But I'm adamant, he should have recorded Hornets and released it as the first single. To me, it was better than All You Sons and Daughters.
  6. The record IS going to be called Chaotic Neutral. When you go on mg.org and click on the i in the image of Matt, it reads "MG - Chaotic Neutral - RoofTop - Matt Barnes"
  7. It is a music video: https://twitter.com/mattgood/status/621342816447397888 And Matt has just one YouTube account now I believe which is this: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxel7fCSGaxE-NAKHiFTZCQ Vevo doesn't count :P
  8. Yeah absolutely! Like I said, Stu's the best guitar player Matt's played! :) And maybe the way he plays it is the way it was played on the record, for all we know, but the record sounds more like the way Jimmy used to play it.
  9. I totally agree. He is the best guitarist Matt ever worked with, solo or not. And I always thought it was a shame he was never there to play the songs he did on Lights. Jimmy was a better show man though and I prefer his solo for Non Populus. The way Stu plays it sounds wrong.
  10. What happened to Jimmy?
  11. Nope I got it, thanks :)
  12. Yeah she really does look like her.
  13. Yes it was Ryan Dahle who played on Big City Life and Oh Be Joyful! As far as I'm concerned, although Dave Genn was a great guitarist, he certainly wasn't the best one. Stu was the best for me.
  14. Pat Stewart all the way. Best drummer of all of those he's worked with, funny guy, great chemistry with Matt. But all the others aren't far behind. He hasn't worked with any bad musicians.
  15. I'd say Old Fighters is a good way to start. The songs on it are a good representation of MG's whole career (do date). The thing with MG is that, although it's better that way for the listeners, you can't find one archetypical Matthew Good record. Because each record sounds different. With the songs on Old Fighters, you have a good idea of everything he does/did, from the more rockish songs to the more orchestral ones and everything in between. The only thing is you have to add Non Populus to the list because it's too good. Strange Days In A World Called Catastrophe Weapon Apparitions (Live) Load Me Up (Live) Born Losers Last Parade Zero Orchestra The Future Is X-Rated 21st Century Living Giant Avalanche Suburbia While We Were Hunting Rabbits
  16. Yes in the three zips that were posted in the Lounge there are 3 of the 5-6 that were available.
  17. I didn't even know the show existed then before knowing Matt would be on. If that episode is a reprensentative of the show, then yes, it was a bad show.
  18. Definitely sounds better with real drum compared to the 2010 demo. I'm pertty happy he's taking unused songs from the Lights of Endangered Species demos as it's one of my favourite records of his. There were a lot of good songs that were cut off. I don't know if it's because I'm so used to the record as it is but although both Hornets and All You Sons and Daughters wouldn't have fit in, they're still great songs! It's a shame he considers that We Are a Place became Non Populus because both songs don't sound too much alike so he could very well re-record We Are a Place and we'd have both songs (and that's not a jab at Non Populus as it is my all time favourite MG song :P).
  19. I absolutely remember this! Ha ha ha! (go to 16:53) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPze0xcLvPQ
  20. With the lyrics (which weren't posted the first time I believe): Night OrdersShe wraps around like a snake, a rope, a chain under the lights you hear the questions softly pained but you don’t remember nothing because forgetting’s all that keeps you sane Under the table a fire breathes to life climb the walls, across the ceiling, down the pipes the Semtex inside you dreams but these night orders keep you tied singing a hell saved me yeah, a hell made me Out in the wilderness I’ve been practicing for years Bomb Shelter Videoes, Dig For Fire, faith in fear oh you don’t know what you’re doing boy so you better best stay here Well you and me, we’re left where nothing gets too clear like Vercingetorix at Alesia, a spear go tell Rothko on his kitchen floor Red On Black to me appears singing a hell saved me yeah, a hell made me
  21. Matt, you've said not long ago that one of the things you dislike about Vancouver is that you actually tried to do that. But I was listening to Empty's Theme Park and was thinking that this must be a pretty tedious process trying to be on time with the real drums but with samples and drum machines. I'm sure the lyrics can be adapted. I asked Matt a couple of years ago to do a French version of it with new words but the same title (in Quebec) because that's basically how I felt with our provincial government at the time but I never got an answer (not complaining, he has other things to do :P)
  22. Covering A Girl in the War would be pretty sweet. There's definitely a lot of "lost" LOES demos that should be put on record one day. I know "There is a Place" became "Non Populus" (which is probably my favourite song of yours ever) but that one is definitely one that I love, Hornets, obviously and For and Against. A Short Time on Earth I like too. It would be nice if some day you'd do something with the music to Homecoming and that demo you worked on during the Vancouver demos sessions: . Musically speaking, those could have fit on Arrows as wel (especially the second one). If this next record is reminicent of LOES then I'm all for it! :)
  23. I like your thinking! :P Absolutely! The piano version of Rabbits is magnificient and chilling.
  24. Yeah I've thought about it too but left it out because of the instruments. I'd also add a lot of Rooms but wanted original versions :) Yeah I know I make up rules along the way :P
  25. Matt sometimes records really simple songs (in the sense that it's mainly just a guitar and vocals with very little arrangements and sugar coating). Here are some that, to me, are perfect as is and would have been ruined if there would have been more added to them: - The Inescapable Us - I, The Throw Away - All Together - Omissions of the Omen - Can't Get Shot In The Back If You Don't Run - Dusk - Running For Home - Fated - Flight Recorder from Viking 7 - Life Beyond the Minimum Safe Distance - The Fine Art of Falling Apart - The Man From Harold Woods
