Listening to Garden of Knives right now, I couldn't resist! Love the beginning. Too bad it's fairly low quality, but I can't complain. So far the production sounds very different than anything he's done before. EDIT - The ending is very creepy.

This post got me excited thinking there was an Avalanche celebration tour happening! Our Lady Peace did a tour a few years ago where they celebrated 2 of their older albums, Clumsy and Spiritual Machines. In each location they did 2 nights of shows. On one night they played all of Clumsy, then there was an intermission and then a full second normal concert, and then they repeated the following night with Spiritual Machines. It was incredible, because there was no opening act, just 2.5 hours of them each night. I would love for Matt to do something similar with Avalanche or any other album!

I know artists sometimes don't like when people compare their new work to their old, but I do get vibes older records in some songs, of Audio of Being or Hospital Music. But any comparisons or pattern-finding by my brain aside, I really like what the clips provide. Arrows of Desire sounds like a Last Parade but with a heap of emotion thrown into the singing (not that Last Parade lacked it, but this feels like it has more oomph). And Hey Heaven Hell sounds absolutely fantastic. In fact, they all do in different ways. I already have tickets for the Regina show, and I plan to now get tickets to the Saskatoon one as well. It's always worth the road trip!

Here are the videos as no one linked them: https://www.youtube....h?v=3AlHjb0xpIE http://www.youtube.c...h?v=dOq9g-UlHmk Also, wasn't indestructible the song that Matthew Good sold to someone else, in terms of arrangement? Or was that another song?

I didn't like Had it Coming at first, it took me about 5 or 6 listens to get used to it. I quite enjoy it now, though. I REALLY enjoy We're Long Gone, however. Only 2 minutes though! It's one of those songs that you just wish there was another 2 minutes to, but realize that having it extended might ruin some of the character. EDIT - You know what We're Long Gone reminds me of? Native Son from Last of the Ghetto Astronauts. I feel like the line "if the sky or the free world were to fall" should be in the first verse for some reason.

Butcher Boys. You'll be plagiarists, of course.

Is it just me or does the opening band totally not mesh well with Matthew Good's style and persona?

Yeah with us the crew was asking "are you guys done?" It seemed like they wanted to get out of there. With OLP (again, the only comparison I have. maybe it's unfair and they went above and beyond compared to most, I don't know) the guys changed clothes/showered quick, and then in the room they had everyone stood around and chatted. It was a more relaxed setting. I think that might have something to do with it. It's a little weird having Matt sitting there with a line formed 10 feet away. Again, my comparison might not be fair. However, I think if he does this again in the future I would say try to arrange it so it's a bit more relaxed. It's tough because he is tired, I am sure. But with OLP they played 2.5 hours themselves (full CD from front to back, then 15-18 additional songs in a second set). Maybe it was because it was a "special" tour (the whole full CD + full regular set) that they took the time, but they seemed to be more into it. Just advice (from a fan) for future iterations of the same idea!

Saskatoon show last night. It was a great show, but the crowd sucked, as usual. It was a standing-only show, but everyone just stood there. Here's the setlist: Last Parade What if I can't see the stars, Mildred? Zero Orchestra Born Losers Load Me Up Future is X-Rated Shallow's Low Non Populus Silent army in the trees Apparitions Weapon Giant Alert Status Red Set me on fire So a little disappointed in the lack of Rabbits, but glad that we got some "rare" gems from the tour, like Last Parade and Alert Status Red. The solo singles got great receptions, I was quite surprised. Of course Apparitions and Weapon got the biggest cheers, as expected. Non populus was amazing. The ending is my favourite part of the whole CD, so the fact that they repeated it 2x the normal length was incredible. My only complaint was with the meet and greet. It was so rushed and as soon as something was signed the organizers were pushing people out. And there were only about 15-20 of us there too. The only thing I have to compare it to was Our Lady Peace's meet and greet on their last tour. With them, 4 or 5 people were taken into a separate room and you got a picture with the band, some merch, and you got to chat for about 4-5 minutes. And there were 40-50 people per show, and they did 2 shows per city! So while I know Matt must have been tired from playing, I felt OLP took a lot more time to care for their fans, while with Matt it was very rushed, and I felt like I was an inconvenience. I took my friend's painting to be signed:

After this many shows with no new songs, I would guess what we've heard so far is it. I doubt anything new will be added after this many shows. So unfortunately no Automatic or other things we want...but the current list is pretty good. I would like maybe another short song or two (like someone else said before), but 14 songs is decent.
-
Seems like he's settling on 14 songs per show now. Not bad. Hopefully the crowd is better than last time he came to Saskatoon. He shorted everyone 2 songs (compared to the rest of the tour's dates) because the crowd was so horrible.

Yeah, something like that would be great too.

Do you think he'd sign a short message on anything? I wanted to get something signed like "to my biggest fan" (corny, I know!) for my friend who can't make it (and it's killing her), and I thought that would be a nice surprise. Or are you kind of in line, get a signature, move along?
-
Let us know how it goes, and what the rest of us can expect!

While I want to hear a full-band Rabbits (complete with steel-sheet drumming, lol), this is really cool. Also, I feel sorry for that guy in the middle of the crowd standing up by himself. :( And I have to say, Non Populus is epic. I think for me it's approaching my #1 "slow-burner". It's definitely up there with Near Fantastica, Rabbits, Avalanche, etc.

Here are the stats from the 4 shows so far (I will be updating these every once in a while so people know what to expect at future shows): Times played - Song 4 Shallow's Low 4 What if I Can't See the Stars, Mildred? 4 Zero Orchestra 4 Non Populus 4 Set Me on Fire 4 Born Losers 4 Weapon 4 Load Me Up 4 Apparitions 3 Hornets 3 The Future is X-Rated 2 How it Goes 2 Lights of Endangered Species 2 Last Parade 2 While We Were Hunting Rabbits 2 Giant 1 The Boy Who Could Explode 1 Great Whales of the Sea 1 A Silent Army in the Trees 1 It's Been a While Since I was your Man 1 Alert Status Red 1 Hello Timebomb Total number of songs played: 14, 16, 15, 13 Average of: 14.5 Also, how does Zero Orchestra sound live with...zero orchestra, and only regular instruments?
-
Thanks! Wow, that setlist looks pretty good. Was Rabbits with the full band?
-
I am going to a show on the 8th of November and I haven't gotten my package or ticket in the mail yet. Should I be concerned?
-
Yeah, it's the only song I skip over when I listen. And sometimes Zero Orchestra, but only because I overdid it when it was released early on Soundcloud.
-
Quite heavy on LeOS (which is to be expected I guess since it's the new record!), but I'm used to only 3 or 4 songs from a new record, he practically played the whole thing!
