  1. Yeah the app itself isn't stable at all and freezes constantly (Android version at least) when playing music.
  2. I managed to get it to work at my work, and I've listening to everything. I love everything, but I think Cold Water lost something when recorded in the studio. I don't know what it is, but it had something raw or unrefined in the demo that was smoothed over. But overall I love the album. EDIT - Wait, did Army of Lions not making the album!?!
  3. Oops, wrong thread/
  4. It appears all the songs are actually hosted on soundcloud, but aren't public on the PC version, just the app. So I'll have to wait until I get home to listen.
  5. Listening to Kid Down the Well on Spotify right now...only 1:30 into it but I really like it so far. EDIT - Finished it, it's nice. It's produced very well, I like the mixing.
  6. I would buy a few for sure, especially Beautiful Midnight and Avalanche. I have my grandpa's vinyl player stored away in a closet, but I think I'd probably frame these and hang them.
  7. Really interesting guitar work behind the main riff after the verses, I like it. I also love the main riff. The chorus still seems really simple...but then again so have others that I have grown to love. I'm really liking the minor changes to the songs as they make their transition from demo to studio recording. I'm probably most excited for Army of Lions after that brief snippet we got the other day.
  8. I've paid for VIP packages 3 times in my life, and they have been mixed: - Our Lady Peace "Evening With" tour (3 hour show with just them, like 35 songs since they played their CD Clumsy as the opening act, then took a break and did a 22-song normal concert, it was amazing). Got to spend 15 minutes alone with the band with 3 other people at a time. Chatted, got pictures and stuff signed, etc. Really cool experience, and totally worth it. I think the ticket was $200 in total, but also included the concert and a bunch of exclusive merch - Matthew Good LoES tour. Stood in a line for 30 minutes with 50 people, got less than 1 minute with Matt, took a picture with him sitting down and he signed one thing, and I was shuffled along. Was not worth the price at all. - Matthew Good Arrows tour. Had to cancel the trip up to Saskatoon as I was very ill and couldn't see the show or get the VIP merch. Tried to get my VIP merch mailed to me, was never helped by the company. Based on my one experience with paying VIP for a Matthew Good show I wouldn't do it again. I got a 12x12 LoES poster signed by him, and then a painting my friend did, and 1 minute with him where he just said "nice to meet you," looked at the camera, and was moved along. Probably not his fault entirely as he's exhausted after a show, but it wasn't worth it.
  9. I got the 2 aisle seats in the bottom-left of the image anyway. They're actually good seats, I was just hoping for something in the centre. But 5th row aisle is pretty good, so I'd rather not risk missing the actual sale date window and get something even worse!
  10. Quick question (please answer right away if you know!): When I am looking at tickets for the Winnipeg show (my gf and I might make the inter-provincial trip since he's not playing in Saskatchewan), only some seats are open, in weird places. Are only certain seats available for the fan pre-sale? Or does that mean the rest have already been purchased? I can't imagine that hundreds of people in Winnipeg have already purchased tickets this morning for the fan pre-sale... I'm just wondering at this point if it makes more sense to wait until the general tickets go on sale and get a much better seat than the pre-sale ones. Here's a map, to give you an idea. The deep blue are open to fans right now, and the light blue are only available to fans who also have an American Express card (which is really despicable...I wish TicketMaster would die). So I assume that most of the grey ones are really just not open for sale yet, right? They can't all be sold.
  11. I'm really sad I can't make this tour. I had a VIP ticket for last tour (Arrows) at the Saskatoon show but I couldn't make the show because I became extremely ill the day of and couldn't drive there. I contacted the tour company to at least see if I could get the VIP merch mailed to me or something, and I never got replies back. So I spent like $200 on a show I never even got to go to :( Now I can't go to this tour because he's not even visiting the province. I could drive to Calgary or Winnipeg, but that's a 6 to 7-hour drive plus I'd need to book 2 days off work and get a hotel for my gf and I. It's probably not worth it. :(
  12. Wow, seriously? No stops in Saskatchewan? I'm really bummed, that really sucks. I wanted to take my gf but now there won't be a chance. :(
  13. I hope there is a stop in Regina or Saskatoon!
  14. Whoa that's way different than the demo! Very interesting.
  15. Listen to what he does with the consonants?
  16. It's actually available for free to everyone on Spotify. I'm listening to it right now:
  17. That usually is the case. Not to say that singles can't be awesome, but they are usually chosen because they are shorter, have an easy-to-hear riff or hook, are catchy, and are simpler. My favourites are usually the more complicated songs that build, like Near Fantastica, Avalanche, or Non Populus. That's probably why Avalanche is my favourite album of his, as it has a lot of big-hitters like that.
  18. I'm assuming it will be on Spotify on release day too, so I don't mind waiting a bit for the CD to come in the mail. I think the only song I haven't heard is Kid Down the Well. Should be a great album, I'm interested to hear how some of the songs turned out in the studio.
  19. I've been listening to the demos (and a few old demos/tracks) in constant rotation the last few days and I wanted to kind of share my thoughts. Here's my playlist. Most are from the current recording period, but a few are older: Moment - I like it, though it sounds pretty "even," in that there isn't a lot of sonic variety in the song. I imagine that will be fixed on the actual album. A good song though. Los Alamos - One of my favourites. Really reminds me of Flight Recorder of Viking 7 in its atmosphere. Cold Water - Probably the best demo. Just a really, really great song. I don't mind the "slurred" style singing as I first did when he released it, though I hope it's cleaned up a bit (in terms of clarity) for the full release. Tiger by the Tail - Okay. Not a stand out. Similar in style (in my mind) to Cold Water, but doesn't have the some flow or concise feeling, almost as though it drags a bit. Something Like a Storm - Not making the album, but one of my favourite songs he's ever recorded. If I know I'm going to be driving for 15 minutes then I put this on. Refusing To Leave Space Camp - Also great, too bad it's not making the album (as far as I know). Girls in Black - Great verses, middling chorus, and fantastic bridge. Seriously, this bridge (I remember the time, I remember the time...) is one of the best things he has done in years. No Liars - Great hook, good versus, mediocre chorus. I am not a fan of choruses that just repeat a line a few times (So Close comes to mind, from Arrows of Desire). All You Sons and Daughters - Good song, though I preferred the original demo from a while back. I also miss the outro. But a good song. Harridan - Good song. The mixing on this one seems to maybe make his voice seem grating, I hope that doesn't come through on the final recording. I like the overall feel of it, especially the non-singing parts. All Together - Not a demo since it was released, but still not an album song. One of the best he's ever done. Great build and payoff, which I love in a song. For and Against - I'll never understand why this song wasn't released on an album. Also one of the best choruses he's ever done, it has a great deal of feeling in it. Cloudbusting - Really nice song, a good cover choice.
  20. The music industry is also getting much more fragmented. Gone are the days when the majority of the population listens to the radio. And even radio now is much more tightly focused with less local variation in the large stations. I almost exclusively use Spotify now, so I have little exposure to new music from major labels. It's creating a self-reinforcing cycle, I think, where you get suggested new music based on what you already like, so you get put into a segregated community of like-minded listeners. There are pros and cons to this. The pro is that it's much easier for smaller bands and singers to get music out there, provided they can get a viral following going in a segment of the listening audience. Also it's much easier to find similar music to what you like based on the aggregate listening habits of like-minded people. The con is that there is little incentive or opportunity to discover new music outside your comfort zone. Now to be fair, most people tended to already stick with the music they liked in their teens and twenties anyway (as studies have shown), but it's still nice to find a new band to latch on to every once in a while. Basically, no young people listen to the radio any more and just get new music from what their friends are already listening to based on youtube viral hits or internet radio/playlists that other people have aggregated based on similar listening habits. So people who like Matt's music will continue buying (though the audience will slowly shrink has inevitably you lose some fans with each new record if they don't like the style), but it would be very hard for him to find new fans based on the new evolving model of music distribution.
  21. Looks like both. I would love to go to it if it wasn't a province away.
  22. Need a certain amount of posts. 50, I think.
  23. Sounds pretty good. The part I like the least is the chorus. It's pretty bland compared to the rest of it, it doesn't really have a strong hook to it, nor does it stand out. The bridge part before the second chorus is the best part of the song I think.
  24. I am the opposite where I will listen to Arrows a bunch of times but need to take breaks between LOES. I usually skip Guns of Carolina though, for some reason.
  25. You need to make a certain number of posts (50 maybe? I'm not sure) and then you get access to a separate board with all his demos, recordings, some live stuff, etc.
