  1. So I convinced my friend to go see Mr. Good with me. However, they don't know a lot of his music, perhaps hearing Apparitions, Hello Time Bomb, etc on the radio. This person enjoys Incubus, Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters, etc. So rock, pop/rock. So they want me to give them a mix of MG/MGB songs to get them ready for the show. So my question is, what would be any of your suggestions for a few songs to add to this list? Keep in mind a list of all epic 8-minute songs probably isn't the way to go (as much as that would be what I enjoy!). I want to get a good mix! It's so hard because Matt has such a wide variety of song styles! I think I'll split it roughly up into rock singles, his more epic songs, and his lighter/acoustic songs. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, I want to convert this person into a new fan!
  2. Super tough one. I will have to go with Hunting Rabbits, because I know it so much better. But that could change in time, as Empty's is really amazing. Ok, how about songs that involve being asleep/waking up/closing your eyes. The Workers Sing a Song of Mass Production vs In A World Called Catastrophe.
  3. Avalanche Battle of weird name changes: Deep Six vs Deep 6ix (I miss New Wave)
  4. Fated. Battle of the soft-hard songs: A Single Explosion vs Great Whales of the Sea
  5. Omissions of the Omen. Battle of mainstream rockers: Everything is Automatic vs Hello Time Bomb
  6. After listening a few dozen times, I think I'm ready to form my opinion on the album. It's really good. It does have one song I'm not too fond of (Us Remains Impossible), but otherwise reminds me very much of Avalanche. The only thing I think that could make it better is perhaps another up-tempo, shorter song to compliment Great Whales of the Sea. By the way, Great Whales of the Sea is my favourite on the album. Kind of reminds me of A Single Explosion (same kind of song structure, I guess, soft then loud). Otherwise: Last Parade - A great opener. Maybe not as epic as Man of Action, but I think far more catchy. I really enjoy it. 9/10 The Boy Who Could Explode - A solid song. Not much to comment on. 8/10 Great Whales of the Sea - I really love this song. 9.5/10 Us Remains Impossible - This is an ok song, but I don't think it holds up to the rest of the record. The chorus doesn't seem to match the rest of it (just my opinion!). 6/10 On Nights Like Tonight - Very Avalanche-y. That's both good and bad. Good because it sounds good, bad because it kind of repeats the past. 7/10 Volcanoes - Sometimes I can't get enough of this song, sometimes I want to skip it. But overall I like it. I think maybe the demo vs studio changes spoiled me. ;) 7/10 A Silent Army In The Trees - An interesting song. Reminds me of Black Helicopters. Lyrically, I think it's probably the best on the record. 8/10 Fought To Fight It - It differs from the rest of the album, I think. It's good though. 8/10 The Vancouver National Anthem - Very cool song. I love the way he yells "stick to it" twice in the song. Another very Avalanche-like song. 8/10 Emtpy's Theme Park - Instead of an epic opener, an epic closer? I think maybe the best closing song he's ever put out. Fantastic in every way. It took me a while to get used to it compared to the demo version, but I did and I am glad! 9.5/10 So I guess that averages to 8/10. Overall though I think I'd give it an 8.5 or 9..
  7. I'm in the front row for the show I have tickets to. Does that put the pressure on me to stand up, to get everyone behind to follow? I will have to time the standing up properly. Perhaps jumping up and down in the middle of She's In It For The Money is not as appropriate as waiting for a more up-tempo number. ;)
  8. Running For Home, by far. How about a battle of two epic openers? Giant vs Man of Action
  9. Tripoli. Tripoli vs Sort Of A Protest Song
  10. I wish he would have done a show in Regina! I guess Saskatoon's not too far to go, but it's certainly less convenient! At least he still plays Regina now and then, after the whole shoe thing.
