  2. Just wanted to add my two cents to AoB. It's not my favourite album, but maybe is somewhere in the middle. However, I do think it contains a few top-tenners out of his work. Sort of a Protest Song and Advertising on Police Cars are outstanding tracks, in my opinion. I never liked Fall of Man, but lately I can listen to it a bit more. I like the ending of the song. Workers is obviously well-liked. And I really like Anti-Pop. It's an interesting take on a "hit song". I would say my favourite albums are Avalanche and BM, but AoB is maybe 3 or 4 on the list. It obviously moves around as my tastes evolve. But I would agree with most here and say it's some of his best work in terms of music.
  3. 1) A Silent Army in the Trees 2) House of Smoke and Mirrors 3) Great Whales of the Sea 4) 99% of Us is Failure 5) Advertising on Police Cars 6) Change of Season
  4. I'm waiting for the next round! ;)
  5. Song for the Girl? Great song, but not that great to dancing too, I think.
  6. 1) Near Fantastica 2) Born Losers 3) The Fine Art of Falling Apart 4) While We Were Hunting Rabbits 5) Suburbia 6) Sort of Protest Song
  7. 1) Change of Season 2) The Workers Sing a Song of Mass Production 3) Born to Kill (BM) 4) Omissions of the Omen *incredibly tough 5) Strange Days 6) A Boy and His Machine Gun 7) Avalanche 8) Prime Time Deliverance 9) Let's Get It On
  8. Yeah, there are certain albums from certain artists that I would pay (almost) any price they would ask to hear live. Avalanch is one of them. Happiness Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch is another...Spiritual Machines almost makes that list...mainly because of The Wonderful Future. I can't believe I will finally hear it live. And Car Crash! And Are You Sad? !
  9. I think the tickets are around $40-$50 for the regular seating. So not too bad. And all of OLP's tour is inside theatres, which is cool. I am most looking forward to Spiritual Machines. Hearing The Wonderful Future live...drools. But I think Beautiful Midnight would outdo that for me, easily (have to keep this thread on topic!). To hear A Boy and His Machine Gun live! Or Running for Home! Or BORN TO KILL! And I know it won't happen, and I wouldn't expect it out of Matt either. I'm grateful for the stuff he plays. And I do want to hear the new stuff, because yeah, we might not hear some of those songs ever again. As for those OLP VIP tickets...I got some. Yes they are expensive. For $199 you get a good seat (front few rows), a special poster for that particular album, a collectors book with stuff from their history (lyrics, notebook scraps, etc), I think some sort of box with goodies, a laminated poster cover or something. And then a meet and greet with the band after the show. Word from their PR guy as well is that maybe there will be more to it. Hopefully so. But I think still worth it anyway. I can't imagine playing 2-3 hour shows and then meeting with some fans after. For like 30 shows in a row. It's easy for us to say it's the "price" of being famous, or being a musician, or whatever. But it's still a price none of us have ever had to pay!
  10. 1) 99% Of Us Is Failure 2) Hello Time Bomb 3) Advertising on Police Cars 4) Running For Home 5) Man of Action 6) The Vancouver National Anthem 7) Giant 8) Empty's Theme Park 9) The Rat Who Would Be King* *In terms of most of the song, I would choose NAFL. However, the last chorus + Love is not enough tip the scales for Rat.
  11. This would be the type of show I'd pay double for (re: other thread about paying more for dream concerts).
  12. I know, I know, the two bands are totally different. But bear with me for a second. Our Lady Peace just announced their Canadian tour for the Spring of 2010. What they are doing is picking 2 CDs (Clumsy and Spiritual Machines) and then performing each CD from front to back in one set, and then a totally separate set with a regular mix of hits. In each city they are doing 2 shows. So one for Clumsy, and one for Spiritual Machines. So that's 10-12 songs for a CD, and then another 6-10 for the second set (probably plus encore). As I said, they are totally different bands. But can you imagine if Matt did a tour and alternated (at the same venue) with like, Avalanche and Beautiful Midnight (pick your own favourites!). A dream, I know. And also, Matt's songs tend to be more complex, much longer, and he doesn't have a permanent band to rehearse with. But still! I would be in heaven...
  13. Of course Double Life! The solo at the end is tops!
  14. This is sort of turning into a "songs that I skip" thread, so I'll comment on that theme: I guess I skip over Truffle Pigs fairly often, and Fall of Man. On Vancouver, On Nights Like Tonight.
  15. 1) Empty Road 2) I Miss New Wave 3) Great Whales of the Sea 4) A Silent Army In the Trees 5) Last Parade 6) Sort of a Protest Song (tough one) 7) Anti-pop (also super tough) 8) Single Explosion 9) While We Were Hunting Rabbits
  16. Pretty sure Us Remains Impossible is the new single. I've already heard it on the radio.
  17. I chose Suburbia, but I enjoy Jenni's song quite a lot. And I really enjoy SWW, but House of Smoke and Mirrors is such a powerful song at the end that I couldn't not vote for it.
  18. I bought a signed poster and a t-shirt. It was too big when I bought it, but then after I washed it (in cold water, and dried it on cold/tumble), it shrunk to 2 sizes smaller! Now I can't wear it. I wish bands would invest in thicker t-shirts that don't shrink 3 feet in each direction when even touched! But I like the poster, and I am happy to support Matt anyway with my money.
  19. 1) House of Smoke and Mirrors 2) The Fine Art of Falling Apart 3) Suburbia 4) Near Fantastica 5) The War is Over 6) Weapon 7) Tripoli 8) Indestructible 9) Born Losers
  20. I hear Us Remains Impossible on the radio today.
  21. X 1) Everything Is Automatic 2) Pledge of Allegiance 3) Failing the Rorschach Test 4) She's In It For the Money Y 1) Fated 2) Life Beyond the Minimum Safe Distance 3) Lone Gunman 4) Can't Get Shot In The Back (If You Don't Run)
  22. That's a mono one, I think. Too bad.
  23. I've only been able to ever find a low quality version, it might even be mono. Is this the only one available?
  24. I did the same thing for a friend, but I burnt her 2 CDs. One of the solo stuff, one of MGB. She ended up loving his stuff, and came to his concert with me in Saskatoon. For one CD it would be harder. Here's what I would recommend: Giant Last Parade Fated Avalanche Weapon The Inescapable Us Sort of a Protest Song Empty Road Omission of the Omen Born Losers Running for Home Great Whales of the Sea Change of Season Everyone will recommend something different though. And if I rewrote this list tomorrow, it would be at least 50% different! It's too hard!
  25. 1) 1- Apparitions 2- Apparitions (Massey Hall) 2) The Workers Sing a Song of Mass Production 3) Life Beyond the Minimum Safe Distance *extremely tough 4) Us Remains Impossible 5) Omissions of the Omen 6) Fearless 7) Life In Spite of Itself 8) Born to Kill (BM) 9) Strange Days 10) Weapon
