  1. I like mood, but I also like some bite. Usually you'd expect (and enjoy) 1 or 2 slower, moodier songs on an album. Having them be the bulk of a new album might be too much for me. I'm just a customer though, and if enough people want that then more power to him (and them). Everyone is always going to have their preferred period or style from an artist, especially from ones who have put out as much music as Matthew Good has. This next album just might not be in the top half for me, judging by the demos so far. I've enjoyed them and really like a few, but I'm not as excited as with previous albums.
  2. Wow! This had recently become one of my favourite songs (I missed it back in the day), but I didn't know he was planning on re-recording it for the new album. That's awesome. Can't wait for the full studio version. I really hope for a nice outro on it too.
  3. I thought he had scrapped Night Orders?
  4. Post enough here (I think 50 posts?) and then you get access to the forum where you can download demos and such. :) Did he have a new song up called Welcome to the Future? I see that I missed something, did anyone catch what it is, or record it?
  5. Matt, have you ever considered putting a cover of Girl in the War on an album? Your rendition of it on the Nothing to Hide tour was one of the most poignant and poweful acoustic performances I've seen. I would say it's better than the original, as great as it is.
  6. This would be my main choice, along with his rendition of Girl in the War.
  7. If I could choose any song to be really perfected and released on a record it would be For and Against, for sure. Probably the best chorus Matt has ever written, in terms of emotional weight and impact.
  8. That's awesome. I only just discovered that massive collection of your unreleased demos, and I have to say that some are incredible. I don't think I have heard Bad Pennies, but Hornets is great. My favourites are probably For And Against the Same Thing, A Short Time on Earth, and We Are a Place (the LOES demo you mentioned). I also just recently listed to All Together for the first time, and it might be the most beautiful song you ever recorded. It has such a bittersweet sound. Anyway, glad to hear the news that you're revisiting a few old demos!
  9. I've noticed that too. More of a meandering, lazy sound (not lazy as in not trying, more like a lazy river). His earlier stuff was obviously of a frantic quality, and over time it's mellowed out a bit and developed kind of a twang, and now he seems to be doing this. I prefer the singing style from the early 2000s more (think Avalanche), but it's just a matter of personal taste. And it could just be for the demos, but I'd noticed it on Arrows of Desire too, on the slower tracks.
  10. Honestly it would be An Evening With Our Lady Peace back in 2009 or 2010. The idea was that OLP would do 2 shows in each city. On one night they would play their 2nd album Clumsy in its entirely, and on the 2nd they would play their 4th album, Spiritual Machines. What made the shows incredible was that they were their own opening act. The first set was an entire album front to back (so 10-12 songs) and then after a 15 minute intermission they did an entire regular show of 15-20 songs from their other albums. I saw them in Regina and Saskatoon (only Clumsy shows in Saskatchewan, unfortunately), and it was one of the best weekends of my life. In Regina my brother caught a drumstick after the first set and I caught one after the second set. Then when I saw them in Saskatoon I managed to get backstage and get the entire band to sign both sticks and get some pictures with them. It was awesome and incredible. And despite what some people say about OLP (including Matthew Good back in the 90s), they put on an incredible live show full of a tonnes of energy.
  11. Wow, just wow. Los Alamos is incredible. I agree with the Loser Anthems minimalistic sound. Incredible work, Matt.
  12. Moment is beautiful, Matt. It sounds great as it is, I can't wait to hear it with a full studio recording.
  13. Hopefully someone can grab this and put it in the lounge. I'm not able to get it at work.
  14. I think they're all on the lounge.
  15. He says he has deleted every single thing he's done, including Something Like a Storm. He did say it may survive in a different form, but shorter and with less stop-and-go. I am really glad I grabbed a copy of it, even if it's not 100% studio quality. Unfortunately this probably means the next album will be pushed back a bit.
  16. Probably still Garden of Knives and Arrows of Desire. The entire album flows really well though, I don't find myself skipping anything when I put it in my car.
  17. I just love it. One of my favourite songs of Matt's, and this performance in particular is amazing. I've only started playing guitar recently but the finger dexterity required on this one is crazy to me! Hopefully I'll be able to play it one day.
  18. I also really like how the beginning and end pieces tie together. It's Matthew Good meets Explosions in the Sky and I love it. Great job Matt, even if it doesn't make the album.
  19. Something Like A Storm is fantastic. I had to take a highway drive today and listened to it 3 or 4 times over the entire round trip in my rotation. It's really 4 or 5 separate themes or sections put together, but it all works great. I think my favourite parts are right near the end and also the stuff around the 7 minute mark. I really hope this gets a great treatment and ends up on the album.
  20. I really like the section of Something Like A Storm that begins at 16:00.
  21. I listened to the first 5 minutes and I like it. It's late and I'll give it some more time tomorrow. The only thing I wonder is if it will feel disjointed or if there is a common theme running through it that will surface a few times.
  22. So the rumour was that Jeremy Taggart might be playing drums for Matt tonight at Massey? Was that true? Jeremy was the drummer for Our Lady Peace since the beginning but recently split with the band (which I don't blame him for, they haven't exactly been pushing any envelopes recently). Jeremy has done some really cool stuff in the past so it's cool if he was working with Matt on a live show, if true.
  23. Garden of Knives and then Arrows of Desire, I think.
  24. Did anyone manage to record it? Willing to share? I'm curious to hear what he's working on.
