Al-Qaeda's top 5 "Christian" target countries: 1. U.S., 2. Britain, 3. Spain, 4. Australia, 5. Canada Could we be next? Personally i think terrorists would be dumb to attack Canada, since we are a great avenue for them to get into the U.S. There are currently about 50 terrorist organizations in Canada. If we were attacked we'd very likely crack down more on security and terrorists would lose a valuable base of operations.

Another Madrid 11m In London?
Moonlight_Graham replied to juanpe's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Al-Qaeda has taken responsibility. London ain't too far from Scotland, where the G8 summit is taking place. Its just a bad coincidence for London that they just won the Olympic bid the day before. 33 dead so far. What a crazy world we live in. -

Canadian Same-sex Marriage Legislation Has Passed
Moonlight_Graham replied to Bizud's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
well, people argue that minority rights shouldn't be subject to a referendum. Thats makes some sense. But as long as its passed in parliment i'm not complaining about anything. -

Canadian Same-sex Marriage Legislation Has Passed
Moonlight_Graham replied to Bizud's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
no of course they wouldn't shut up, but i mean they wouldn't be organizing movements to protest a referendum like they are now. As it is now, Harper is going to fight this and so will many catholic/religious groups etc. If it was a referendum it would pretty much final, and they could still bitch and complain but couldn't do anything about it. -
Governments May Seize Homes And Businesses
Moonlight_Graham replied to Dan #2's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Did you know that the Canadian government has the power to seize anyone's property without any compensation? The Canadian Bill of Rights does not protect Canadians' property rights from the gov't. So basically the government can swoop in at any time and take your property without giving you any money & there's no legal action you can take. i did a quick google and this is the best thing i found on it. Some MP talking about it: http://www.garrybreitkreuz.com/breitkreuzg...s/property5.htm -
Canadian Same-sex Marriage Legislation Has Passed
Moonlight_Graham replied to Bizud's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
I'm glad this passed. Despite Canada's reputation this is a very controversial topic here. Despite this passing, all the polls i've seen say that the slight majority of Canadians actually are against gay-marriage. That makes things even more controversial. Even though i'm for gay-marriage, for the sake of democracy maybe it would have been better for such a large and controversial issue to have gone to a public referendum vote instead of all this political deal-making. At least that way if it passed then everyone would shut up about it. -

Us House Passes Flag Burning Amendment
Moonlight_Graham replied to Bizud's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
I think burning one's own country's flag should probably be illegal. So should hand-guns. But shooting your flag with a hand-gun should be legal, even in elementary school. -
2-tier Health Care
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Randomlylinked, thanks for the very interesting read. I have been hospitalized before, and i totally believe the saying that nurses "are the backbone of the healthcare system". They are the grunts, and do a lot of the work and spend the time with the patients. Certainly can't be appreciated enough. You're lucky to spend 30 minutes with a doctor. -

2-tier Health Care
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Well now Bizud you are finally making some sense ;) I really like those ideas. However, do you think the free student loans would work in the long run? Once a doctor is, say, 35-40 years old & made some money, don't you think he'd be willing to pay off his loans and bolt to the U.S. to make a load of more money + less taxes. I don't know the answer to this question, but i'm sure some would still bolt and your idea would still definately help the brain-drain situation. Also, with under-funding, how much more can we put towards health-care. As i said before, 46% of our taxes goes toward health-care. Also figure that healthcare is going to cost much more over the next 20 years & cost would would rise if we did these anti-brain-drain incentives. Maybe would could raise taxes, but would it still be enough? How about this idea: a lot of people go to their family doctor or E.R. every-time they stub their toe or cough, so how about charging everyone, say, $2 bucks everytime they see their doctor or maybe even when they go to the E.R. Of course, there would be no charge for people with severe/long-term problems (cancer, handicaps etc.) and for children under age 10 (kids/babies are always sick)? I don't agree with a U.S.-type healthcare style. But i think some privitization couldn't hurt. Whats wrong with private MRI clinics? You don't even need doctors to run an MRI, you just need technicians. If someone wants to pay for an MRI, it will let them get service and at the same time reduces the wait for people in the public-system. For those that can afford it, they can always get care in the U.S., so we don't need bigtime private care (unless the U.S. goes Universal). -
There was recently a huge story in Canada where a man in Quebec (i think) won a landmark court decision from a judge who granted him the right to use private health insurance. aka 2-tier healthcare in Canada. Now there's stories of U.S. insurance companies rubbing their hands at all the new potential $$$. Anyways, how do you feel about this? No 2-tier healthcare, just universal (i believe about 46% of all our tax dollars go towards our healthcar system)? Or do you think Canada (or the U.S. for that matter) should have a combo of both and have a choice etc.? Or just private healthcare?
