i don't know much about British politics, so i can't really comment. But he seems like a nice and honest enough guy. But doesn't mean shit.

i agree. The NDP, like any tree-hugging group (that wasn't meant as an insult), honestly means well when it all comes down to it. I just don't want them to take all my money. We have hardly any doctors left in this friggin' country because we have to compete with a free-market U.S. economy. I don't want to drive more of them out of here because of more taxes. NDP is too much heart, not enough common-sense. (for me anyways). Conservative are probably the opposite. And the Libs are just crooks. So i guess we're all fucked.

calgarydave is right, in that Alberta would not suffer if Quebec goes. More likely they'd benefit in terms of more funding. The Canadian Government panders to Quebec like its going out of style. Quebec gets tons of money from the feds, meanwhile Western Canada usually gets ripped off as usual since they are close to meanlingless politically. Quebec has been a real drain on the country in many ways. I'm leaning closer to wanting Quebec to separate if they choose. Sure, Canada's economy would be totally fucked for awhile, and it would be sad culturally for Canada, and it would leave an ugly gap in the middle of Canada when you look on a map, and there would be more bickering for a long time until things got straight.......but it can't be worse than the bickering and bullshit thats going on now. I'm tired of Quebec always wanting special treament. I say shutup or get the fuck out.

i'd have to say ditto. The Pope is a very powerful figure. Put him on a list of most influencial/powerful people in the world, and he's probably in the top 10.

then you've got a slippery-slope. Should the state let brothers and sisters marry? Cousins? What about polygamy? If some of you have trouble understanding why people care if gays marry or not, then just imagine if the government let brothers and sisters or cousins marry each other. Or a son marrying his mother. If that idea disgusts you or is just morally offensive to you, then that is exactly how many of these anti-gay marriage people feel about gays getting married. I support gay marriage. But after that, where do we draw the line?

i'm undecided. Like its been said, its so complicated. It would solve many problems in Canada if Quebec is gone, but many of those problems are just headaches (big headaches). It would be like a messy divorce from a long-time spouse. If Quebec were located geographically where B.C. or Labrador are, then it would be better for Canada, but Quebec being gone is literally like ripping a huge chunk out of the middle of the country. There is also the obvious cultural sadness that would come with Quebec being gone. I wish this wasn't a problem. Juanpe, you say religion is very divisive (which is very true), but language is also.

what about his bitch? -
well Quebec seperation would suck for Canada. The instability would make our dollar sink into the abyss for years, until the whole situation was somewhat stable (5-10 years? or more?) & our economy would hit the crappers. Plus don't forget we have tons of federal gov't buildings in Quebec (thank u Chretien). Who gets those? What happens to the St. Lawrence Seaway? Atlantic Canada? What will they call the Montreal Canadiens? (bahaa!) But i agree it would suck even more for Quebec.

Read a front-page article in the Ottawa Citizen newspaper today about Gagliano testifying before the Gomery Commision. It was about him saying that Quebec'ers have lost all faith & are disgusted by the Liberals (since the Spondership Scandal occused mostly in Quebec) and that in the next Quebec Provincial Election (the Liberals rule the province now w/ Jean Charet) the Bloc Quebecios would get in....and shortly thereafter the Bloc would call referendum for Quebec seperation (which is true) and the majority would very likely vote for seperation this time (also likely). Quebecers hate Libs = Bloc gets in Provincally = referendum = Quebec Seperation. Makes sense? Very interesting. I was also listening to some talk radio today about this article and a lot of people agreed that this is highly plausible (even given the source - Gagliano). I agree, this could be a reality within the near future if things continue as they are. And this would be horrible for Canada beyond the obvious. The Aboriginals own a lot of land in Quebec (like the Cree) and they wouldn't give it up to Quebec without a fight. (shit, gotta end this now. i just saw a freaking mouse (a REAL mouse) in my computer room. Gotta go catch it!!!!)

Death Penalty For The Mentally Disabled.
Moonlight_Graham replied to HoboFactory's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
one reason i don't support the death penalty (expect maybe in crazy extreme cases) is that the person is just relieves of his misery and doesn't pay back his debt to society. I'd rather a murderer do hard physical labor digging ditches all day or building roads, than just giving him the needle. I say let the bastards sweat spit 12 hours a day doing in the hot sun for the rest of their lives. Sounds like more punishment than a needle. Oh, and make them write out the entire Bible over and over again on their free time. Thats hell!!! -
just go buy it now & put it on your credit card, then spend the next 20 years paying for it. Thats the government way!

;) Clarification... Don't buy an iPod unless you have the cash in your wallet/account to afford it. Plasma TV's on other hand....

Juanpe, saying they are "against social improvement" is your subjective opinion. They may think they are trying to improve society, and obviously others (like yourself) see them as trying to block it. Its more like this group is against "social liberism" or "social progression" or "social change" or some other word. I don't see ANYTHING wrong with people who do these anti-gay petitions (even though i'd never sign it). This is the beauty of democracy and a free society. Peaceful protest is a beautiful thing. In fact, even though i disagreed with his thinking, i almost thought of telling the guy who came to my door about the online petition websites available which may be more effective than going 'door-to-door'. But i only thought of doing this probably because i knew his petition wouldn't amount have much affect. If it did, i'd probably just think "screw em'". P.S. Polls i've seen lately say that most Canadians are AGAINST gay-marriage, suprisingly. (it was around 60% against if i recall)

I'm was raised a roman catholic. But i haven't gone to church in many years & i don't find much use for church/religion in my life right now. However, i do believe in God. Free speech is fine and all, (and i know some of u are saying it in jest) but i take some exception to you guys who are saying "Fuck the Pope" (especially the way Jaunpe says it). I don't like the choice of the new Pope msyelf either, but i know a lot of friends and family who are Catholic and i have respect for others people's spiritual beliefs and religions. Can't you guys find better language to express your feelings than "Fuck the Pope"? I think most of the Old Testament is mostly just parables and fables, but i'd never ever say "Fuck the Bible". Anyways, i think all this Nazi stuff is bullshit. The guy ain't a Nazi. Many honest Germans actually supported the Nazi's before they started going crazy. Ratzinger has actually been praised for his great attempts to reach out & improve friendly relations w/ the Jewish community. Thats anti-Nazi behavior. I'd rather look at who the guy is now, and what he's done the last 20-30 years or whatever. The guy is basically a John Paul II clone & pretty conservative, which is bad IMO. He is said to have had firm belief in the old doctrine of the Bible/Church, which means anti-gay, no women priests, and little reform. He is definately old-school. I can't blame him for being anti-gay, because thats what the Bible says, but its time for women priests. I was hoping for a non-white Pope (maybe Latin or African or whatever) to mix things up and show progresion. But the good thing is that they don't like voting in young Pope's who have long reigns, so maybe this Pope won't last as long as the last.
