  1. Depends of the kind of Metal though. I mean there's also growling!
  2. It was a single.
  3. Feeling a little queer tonight, Anton? Blowing It - Dinosaur Jr.
  4. Times Like These - Seven Mary Three
  5. True but half of the songs are pretty much just remixes and rarities that can be found on other discs. I still should have mentioned it.
  6. I have decided to call Billy Corgan the genius of 90s alternative rock. I also just felt the need to post some Pumpkins content. So which albums do you prefer? I'm sure I'll just be getting the first three albums mostly (which ARE classic) but the angst wore a little thin with me over the years. But, mind you, the later tracks on the Mellon Collie discs are some of the best songs he's ever wrote. When it's all said and done, I would say that Adore *gasps* is the BEST written Corgan album. Mellon Collie is probably the better album--actually it is but I'm still saying that Adore is my favourite and Corgan's most personal record too. For the Pumpkins main records I'd say: 1) Adore 2) Mellon 3) Machina 4) Gish 5) Siamese Pisces Iscariot is a wonderful, more mellow look at the early stages. Pick up the Aeroplane Flies High Set if you are a fan by any means--a must to own. TheFutureEmbrace was a terrific record and that's why that I'm angry that the Pumpkins have reunited. TheFutureEmbrace was a perfect mix of Adore and Machina and I don't want Corgan to be forced to bring back any angst when he reunites. The Smashing Pumpkins alongside Radiohead are perfect examples of bands who evolved so beautifully over a decade. Discuss.
  7. Has to be Taco Bell shoe--or I'll pawn my Avalanche cd.
  8. a minute too late!!! EDIT: Wait, I didn't see the 'of' there. At least my post count will go up. Thinking about you - Radiohead
  9. A valid statement. But I take nothing back.
  10. Hunger Strike - Temple Of The Dog
  11. He'll be gone in the next few weeks. He doesn't deserve to record extremely mediocre rock n roll tracks for this band.
  12. It's making things too obvious that Patrice will be eliminated next. Predict a shocker...I say Toby.
  13. I hear Crazy on Adult Contemporary stations for God's sake; there's no way they'll release a song as close to this popularity-wise. That has turned into this year's "Hey Ya" by Outkast in a sense of how it has broken into so many genre playlists.
  14. I had Blackhole by Beck on but the track just ended. Now nothing.
  15. I can't believe I didn't see this thread earlier. I notice that you did make an EDIT but yes, obviously Godspeed didn't coin "post-rock" which is actually a branch off of math-rock. Cringle, you've mentioned A LOT of contemporary "post-rock" groups like Godspeed, Explosions In The Sky, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, etc but those groups all formed in the later stages of the '90s. The true grasp of post-rock died in the mid to late 90s (dare I say 1997? Well I just did). Groups like Slint (listen to the album Spiderland), Tortoise, Chavez, Polvo, June Of 44, Archers Of Loaf, subsequently Sebadoh, revolutionized the post-rock scene in the early '90s. These math-rock bands were more set on creating complex musical arrangements and even had vocals to blend with the songs. Post-Rock of today has really become atmospheric and 100% instrumental while the math-rock scene of the mid 90s was really dependent on guitars and a ton of feedback.
  16. This thread is a mess. Tool is arguably Progressive Rock--but that's the furthest I'd go. Deftones used to be seen as Nu Metal but not they're rock/alternative. APC: rock/alternative. Staind and Mudvayne are former Nu Metal Bands that turned into generic rock in the early 00s. Cold were always a generic rock band (Just Got Wicked was even a bad attempt at Nu Metal). Calling In Flames Metal is debatable but they've finally brought back the Metal with the last album. Killswitch Engage is Metalcore--so no even Metal. Hatebreed is a Hardcore group. Machine Head used to be Metal until the Burning Red Album (Nu Metal garbage) but they've slowly bought the Metal band. Converge is one of those Metalcore/Screamo shit bands. American head Charge = Nu metal turned generic rock. As I Lay Dying/It Dies Today = pathetic Metalcore groups. Isis is a rock band with progressive/ambient elements. AND I don't care about how "influencial" they are, Black Sabbath sound more Classic Rock than Metal.
  17. White men in black suits - everclear
  18. Ewww Don't bother. Basically an extremely bad emo band with metal riffs. Horrible vocals.
  19. You know, as of right now, I've gotten really, really tired of later MGB. I guess I overplayed them in the years. In preference of what I'd listen to these days: Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts White Light Rock And Roll Review Avalanche Raygun/Lo-Fi (Just Raygun, Generation X Wing, So Long Mrs. Smith, Enjoy The Silence and Fated) In A Coma (Disc 2: Just tracks 1-9) The Audio Of Being Beautiful Midnight (though I'd skip the first three singles for killing them) Underdogs (unsure if I'd be able to listen to all of that) But overplaying and repeating songs kills music. For one, I listened to Superunknown by Soundgarden today, and there's no way in hell that I was going to leave Spoonman or Black Hole Sun playing without turning crazy.
  20. Pearl Jam > Matthew Good
  21. They have a new band out that features two of the three members--can't remember the band title though. Their third album was easily their best album but I kinda grew oughtta that I think. Think Twice was the first single off that album.
