Have you purchased any of the other vinyl or just CN so far?
-
Personally - I'm finding a "fuller" sound, particularly on the quieter songs like Tiger By The Tail and Los Alamos...but maybe it's just my set-up.

Looks Like Vinyl Releases Of Back Catalog Are Coming

I feel special that I have the skip-free version of 99%. It's like the 2016 version of Lo-Fi B-Sides or the blue Loser Anthems. Or at least that's what I keep telling myself in order to feel special :) -

I haven't had a chance to listen to all of my vinyl yet but this made me nervous...so I checked 99% and it was fine. Phew! I'd say check/replace your stylus but the fact it happens in the same spot on 2 records makes it sounds like a pressing issue. Unless it's such a tiny defect that your stylus somehow picks it up?? Each turntable has its own uniqueness to it...for example, I've heard some have trouble playing the heavier weight 180g vinyl vs standard vinyl. -

So far I've only had time to sample a few tracks off of each album but initial thoughts: -they all sound great but some sound better than others. Ie Chaotic Neutral doesn't stand out as much. That being said - the quieter/lusher songs like Tiger By the Tail and Los Alamos sound beautiful on vinyl...almost haunting... -LOTGA and Raygun sound "fuller"....especially Geoff Lloyd's bass playing. It drives every single one of those songs. Miss him.... -Underdogs and Hospital Music are decent....but Beautiful Midnight is absolutely top notch - like it was meant to be on vinyl all the years. I think it's my fave. -
Matt - I'll buy you some of your cd's and I'll send them to you. I'll even autograph them.

Yikes...not cool when the boss doesn't know about something like this until it's too late. I'd hate to be at the end of that phone call.... -
I find the intro to Man of Action is perfect for tying up my running shoes, a few last minute stretches etc. before the song really kicks in. Still dream that someday this song will get played live....ie replacing Giant as the first song of the encore :)

Ha! Never noticed that before either but always figured it was kind of familiar....

Thoughts On The Evolution Of Matt's Musical & Vocal Style
Prairieboy replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Matthew Good
Agree with so much of andydanger85's post. Very similar observations. The other day I listened to the Edgefest 2000 concert bootleg and realized how much his singing style has changed from those angrier-sounding days. I still have mixed emotions of AOB because that's when the band broke up and I thought that would be the last time I'd hear Matt Good. In particular, I love the first half of the album. Second half not so much. Avalanche is a great album...Weapon, the title track and the haunt of Rabbits are phenomenal. I remember how different In a World sounded compared to anything of MG's I'd ever heard before and while not a fan at first - it grew on me. My Avalanche cd case is so beat up it's not even funny. WLRR is a toss away for me most times except for Blue Skies. Hospital Music is a top notch listen-front-to-back album, and Vancouver is an intriguing...Boy Who Could Explode is severely underrated in my mind. I can listen to that on repeat endlessly. I find I listen to Lights more and more with each passing day. Arrows is GREAT....the title track is awesome (love the "here's my golden spear" line), Via Dolorosa is a rocker, So Close is almost Underdogs-ish, and I still remember the night AOD was released via iTunes and lying in bed listening to the whole album start to finish and going down the rabbit hole until hitting Garden of Knives and going "WOW - killer song!!" Which brings us to Chaotic - there really isn't a skipable song on this album. Girls In Black is my favourite. Just love love love that song. But then there are the softer Moment and Cold Water tunes - so the opposite of the anger that is GIB. Just an emotional ride..... -
It's also a GREAT song for exercising/working out to. In fact, I have a playlist of just MG songs entirely for this purpose.

For me, I kept seeing vinyl and thinking "I'd buy that if I had a record player". So I finally bought one this summer....now I have an excuse to go into old record shops :) -

Had a horrible dream/nightmare last night. My vinyl arrived, I opened up Beautiful Midnight and started playing it and the needle caught on the vinyl and started unraveling it (like what used to happen with cassette tapes). No I don't do drugs. Maybe I had too much popcorn before I went to bed last night. Oh the horror. -
Thx for posting this link....I had looked for this once long ago and gave up, I figured Fought To Fight It had never been played live. Great little song.
-
Me too....LOTGA was the album I bought 3 years too late because in SK we had never heard of the Matthew Good Band. Our radio stations were too busy playing Alanis Morrisette and Joan Osborne :)
-
Thx for this post, Matt. And thanks for still making great music! All the best to you and your family :)
-
Yes! That's it!
-
Probably my least favourite album...despite the pure genius that is Blue Skies Over Badlands....
-
lol yup....always skip it.

I didn't think that it was actually Matt saying this line - I thought it was a clip taken from a movie??
-
finally yes - a couple of people posted vids on YouTube!

Just ordered all 5. They are my 5 children. They will all be named "Vinyl-Face". -
I wished I lived somewhere closer so that I could get to 2 shows back to back...one to record videos of full songs and the other just to have fun :) As it was, I made my 5 1/2 trek to Calgary and video'd short bits but not entire songs. Will put the snippets onto my youtube just for the heck of it one of these days. Thx to everyone who has shared so far!!!

Wow. Holy Holly - especially at the 4-minute mark! These two need to record and tour together all the time, they complement each other so well. Thanks so much for this Emma, you have no idea how much I was looking forward to seeing this!!!

You know what I'm looking forward to? The sound of vinyl popping and crackling that's already been added to the last 45 seconds of "99% of Us Is Failure". Weird, huh?
