That would be me. It is difficult. I don’t know the man personally. I’ve met him three times. He was nice the three times I met him. But it was brief encounters. He owes me nothing, I’m thankful for those regardless. I Became a fan when I was 12 or 13 in middle school and turned on some of my friends to Beautiful Midnight. I will always cherish his music as it has been such a major part of my life. I feel the same way about an American artist many Canadians may or may not know who is Ryan Adams. From 1995-2018 the man released so much good music it can make your head spin. Matt Good is the same way. I probably even like Matt’s music more. Another true musical and lyrical genius that Canadians may or may not know is Mark Kozelek. He is the brain child behind the Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon. If you don’t know him, look him up and stream everything from 1990 to 2013. It’s some of the best music that went under the radar you will ever hear. His story is kinda similar to these two. Lyrically and musically amazing but for some messed up reason liked to frustrate and belittle fans. I’ve seen him tons of times live and now he can hardly get booked out of a room larger than 200 people in NYC or Toronto. I saw Ryan a month ago and he was a shell of what he was ten years ago. It was heartbreaking actually to see someone so damn talented intentionally destroy their own career by making it a physical chore to be a fan. You’d think artists who despite their cultural impact the music has on our lives would wise up. They’re not curing cancer. They’re not removing a potentially fatal blood clot. They sing and write music. In the current world economy you’d think, or at least I would, selling some tickets in a country I never wanted to make it big in and never promoted in would be a weird epiphany of “Wow I impacted people to use their minimal disposable income to come see me and my band, that’s really amazing”. Nope. Not here. Not with Ryan Adams either. Ten to Fifteen years ago as a fan I probably would have been so devastated I would have booked a hotel and caught a gig slightly north of the border. I’m not the same person anymore. It sounds like many of you are the same. $300 total for tickets, tolls and a hotel and other expenses can be spent in so many other ways and yield far larger and better results. Especially by artists going through the motions and shitting on fans. If Matt Good releases a new album (is it ever going to happen? Will it be Chinese democracy 2 at this point) will I buy it? Perhaps. I’d most definitely stream it. In fact it will probably be good maybe even great. But as far as going out of my way, I’m done. As an American fan, my thoughts are irrelevant. But I’ll spend my little disposable income I have towards live music of artists who care. I don’t have the time and effort to care much anymore. Like I said previously. You can love or hate Trump. He’s a flawed person. As am I. I do not agree with him on every issue. I didn’t agree with Trudeau on really much of anything. But had I been in a band and booked some shows in Hamilton, London and Toronto and had some poor ticket sales, I’d like to think I’d have the balls to say I was canceling because the real reasons: ticket sales. It was painfully obvious. I am glad so many of you agree and can see through this. Now seriously, go stream some Mark Kozelek. Go listen to April and Ghosts of the Great Highway. He’s another seriously flawed musician but man you are missing some absolutely stellar music. You’ll thank me. And no I am not Mark Kozelek.

Let’s all be honest. Let’s do something Matthew Good is not very good at. This will be harsh and will probably be my last post on here. But sometimes a spade has to be called a spade. I live in PA and I’ve been a fan since middle school. I was lucky to get the bastardized version of BM and it went from there. I’ve seen him three times in the states and drove to Canada once to see him. I found out about these shows through dumb luck. There was zero advertising or promotion. The man never had much of a following here. I saw him twice in Philadelphia, a decade before he was canceled by the liberal left and there were maybe a hundred people. Anyone else remember the 2013 tour that was going to be his “breakthrough” in the states and was then canceled with the post from management that they couldn’t let him do the tour because he didn’t sell enough and would lose a ton of money? I do. These shows were not a “tour”. Not even a brief “tour”. I do not consider three cities, all of which are within a 2 Hour drive of the Canadian border a tour. This does not have anything to do with Trump. This has to do with not selling enough tickets. I’m not saying I blame him because at the end of the day it’s business. But the reality of the situation is that between all the drama of the last five years, and the fact that he never had a large enough fan base down here, blaming this on tariffs in the Trump administration is total bullshit. Anybody else that doubts that I think is highly delusional. Whether or not you love, Donald Trump is not the issue here. Donald Trump has been president since January. These shows were booked and scheduled way past then. So to blame this on Donald Trump being the president and his policies is just not factual. In fact it’s a downright lie. I will always continue to support Matthew’s music because it has meant so much to me since the time I was about 12. Matthew Good reminds me of another singer songwriter musician that I also enjoy, which is Ryan Adams. Both of their careers fell apart for sort of kind of the same reasons. Both arrogant narcissists. They are both two unquestionably extremely talented artists, who both want to blame other people for their own failures and shortcomings. But at the end of the day, their carreer’s demise is their own doing. In all reality, I was not going to make the 4 Hour Dr. each way to Pittsburgh. Life‘s obligations do not allow that any longer. But for those of you who had tickets, I would encourage you to use your brain and realize that you are being lied to. I guess what I’m trying to say in a nutshell is that if the man cannot sell enough tickets or is not in good enough physical or mental health, just tell the truth. No harm no foul. Don’t blame Trump. You knew for well what you were getting into when you booked the tour and again I use that term with “. “. And I highly doubt Matt reads this page anymore, and I highly doubt that he cares, but even after Trump is no longer in office, I will not be coming. Just like Ryan Adams you’ve done everything possible to derail your career down here. Did he ever stop to think about the people that took time off work, coordinate with a babysitter, book a hotel, set aside money which for many of us is in short supply to buy a ticket? Sure as hell doesn’t sound like it. For those of you who wish to continue the journey, I wish you well. I just saw Ryan Adams in Reading Pennsylvania on Monday night. They were about 200 people there in a theater that seats 1800 or so 10 years ago that place would’ve sold out in minutes. I think it’s time to face the truth that Matt’s career may not be over, but many of us have had enough of the bullshit. i’m not somebody that believes he ever should’ve been canceled because I’m not a liberal loon. But the man has a genuinely good knack for sabotaging his success. I’ve read all the interviews where he never wanted to come down here and never wanted to do business in the United States. Well, I guess he got his wish. It’s a real shame because there’s a lot of people down here who would have probably become big fans. Shoulda woulda coulda. Too late for that now. This cancellation, especially with a weeks notice, is a slap in the face to all of you who had tickets or were going to buy tickets. I hope you’re smart enough to realize that now. Rather than tell a lie, why not just say what was said a decade prior. “Hey guys ticket sales were below what we expected them to be. It would become a logistical nightmare to come down there to play to 50 people at each show. I’m sorry to report that I am going to have to cancel because we are going to end up losing money that we do not have right now“. That would be respectful and honest. This excuse is not. I laugh and shake my head when I read the Reddit of all the fanboys and fangirls saying he did the right thing. Here’s to playing venues with a 300 capacity limit in Canada and zero shows here. Adios and thanks for the memories and ride on Nearfantastica. Oh and by the way, Matt, Trump 2028.

Yes a Springsteen shout out. How can this place have no posts in months? Triage is…interesting. I’m not a rap fan but I certainly don’t hate it. It’s growing on me and I’m willing to give this a shot. At least give him props for expanding in new directions. And most importantly for me…shows below the border for the first time in a long time. So much has changed for me. Had this been ten years ago I would have caught all three. I cannot make Pittsburgh sadly due to kids etc. Hoping for Baltimore or Philly or DC in the future but that appears to be unlikely. Just glad to see he remembers there’s fans down here. Heck, some of us even voted for Trump . All joking aside, I’m just glad to see me of my favorite artists is doing okay. It looked pretty sketchy for awhile. if Matt still reads these forums, or anyone…I may be typing into the abyss, I’m glad you’re doing well. Keep your head up. And if you didn’t take the hint…get you ass back to central/eastern PA soon!!

Don’t feel bad, you’ll just banned. Not sure if he had anything to do with it but I was on the Facebook page ( fan page?) several years ago. He used to be active on it. I made some comment about how great the show was but that I could tell he was feeling no pain and that he was obviously loaded. The next I was removed. Lol. Oh well. It’s sad how inactive this place is. I’m surprised someone pays to keep it going to be honest. Reminds me of sad reminders for fans of kozelek. When his misconduct accusations came the place shut down. I sincerely wish the man well. He’s give my life so much joy with you music. And to think I stumbled upon his greatness by accident in a small record store outside Scranton in like 1999 or 2000. I just don’t see how so many people have thrown in the towel. If people quit Matt over some sleazy things that every rock star has done, they better throw all Bowie, Beatles, Manson, zeppelin, Stones, Aerosmith, etc. away. Late to the party on this one. Watching the Beautiful Midnight concert from Vancouver on DVD tonight. What a great show. Whoever filmed this should get a lifetime achievement award. Probably the closest we will get to a professionally filmed concert DVD.

I too hope and pray he’s okay. But I have to say, that whole you have to be vaccinated and if you bitch about it you should be sent to the Congo and shot by teenagers with AK47s shit didn’t age well did it. Geez. As are most of you probably, I am a long time fan. Being from the US, I have seen him three times here and also traveled to Canada to see him. Soo....big fan here. Lots of money and time dedicated to him as well as the other people I have turned on to his music down here. This seems to be a reoccurring pattern for him. Seems he totally fits the liberal stereotype of taking down any criticism. Hell a few years ago I made a comment that he was shitfaced at the NYC concert I went to. AND HE WAS. It was a great show, I was not saying he is a drunk and I want my money back, just that he was drunk and it got a bit sloppy at the end. Drinking whiskey for three hours straight tends to do that. I was banned from the Facebook page. LOL. Whatever. It's just getting harder to defend him. I did not really care to be honest about his past issues with his lovers. I love his music. Whatever f-ed up stuff he does and has done in her personal life is his problem. But as someone who definitely leans further right than left, to say that people saying their government is tyrannical should be flown to the Congo and shot is just unbelievably stupid. Canada did get nuts during COVID and the aftermath and so did the USA. And right or left, you have the right to say when you think your government is wrong. So saying people should be shot for exercising their free speech is ridiculous. I don't think he meant it. But it is still extremely irresponsible. He comes across like a loose cannon. I am sure his mental health plays into it. As I said in my previous post, he asked a bunch of New Yorkers, at a shower in lower Manhattan, a few blocks away from the Trade towers if they are not sick and tired of 9/11 being the reason for this and that. The crowd shut his ass down and booed and said "no we are not". Needless to say he did not expect that reaction and shut his mouth pretty quick and played whatever was next on his setlist. Just incredibly stupid shut to say. Now it is 2022 and the dust has started to settle on the sexual stuff from earlier. Again, I don't support cancel culture so I felt everything was a bit extreme. But an artist I care about seems to be given a second chance. His career was decimated and he stood a fighting chance to get it back...at least some of it. Why would one not play it safe and keep controversial shit out of the show? Save it until 2024 when you are back playing Massey Hall instead of tiny venues (joking). But seriously, it's almost like he has no interest in saving his career and does not care about pissing whatever fan base he has left. That's his right. But it is incredibly stupid.

Matt obviously wants to fuck up what little of a career he has left. Pretty outrageous stuff regardless of your opinion. Joke or not, it was not funny. Almost as bad as when I saw him at Joe's Pub in NYC back in 2013 and he asked the audience something along the lines of "Aren't you people sick and tired of hearing about 911 this and 911 that". Crowd did not exactly appreciate that a few blocks from where it happened. For being as talented of a musician and lyricist, the guy is a nut.
