Favorite tracks on Chaotic Neutral?
andydanger85 replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Matthew Good
FOR SHAME, SIR. Kidding! Diversity of opinion with regard to an album underlines its' impact, methinks. -
Finally getting a chance to give a full listen through ...it's so dynamic and textured. It reminds me a lot of Talk Talk, actually ...especially the guitar melody fills. On repeat!

Not sure if this was mentioned elsewhere, but it's now on iTunes as a single ...Totally bought haha

I can kind of see both sides of the argument. I think that it's a whole record show, and that people coming out to see Beautiful Midnight, should get Beautiful Midnight. However, it is does say "revisited" in the name and Matt is well known for adapting his work. Another thing that strikes me is that, as much as these new song snippets sound fantastic, and I would love to see them live, perhaps there is a more utilitarian reason for them ...Matt has said on here before and many of us have noticed changes in his voice over the last 5-6 years. No criticism there, he is getting older and male singers do tend to lose the top end of their range as they age. Maybe these new versions are as such, in part, because they re-work some of the more technically demanding singing parts and they will play these so Matt doesn't end up coughing up blood every night (like he has said he was circa '99) trying to hit the high notes? Just a thought... I kinda want to say I remember him saying something along the lines of after BM/AoB his mom was telling him he needed to not spend so much time on the periphery of his range ...and of course I am sure many of us remember the AMA with his vocal coach from back in the day, where she related the fact that he had had to re-learn how to sing after killing himself for so long ... Complete inference though ... I could be way off.

Video concepts ideas I had in 1999 for Suburbia and Born To Kill
andydanger85 replied to Outtahere's topic in Matthew Good
Both of these video ideas are fantastic. You know, it's funny, when I was in high school I used to visualize different vignettes as I was listening to the music as well. I don't remember anything specific except for the song "Under the Influence" ... for some reason I pictured the story of a Canadian Forces soldier being shipped off and trying to maintain a relationship with his lady back home and things were hard in the middle there, but they eventually persevered...kind of eerie given that AoB was released the month after 9/11 and pre- Afghanistan invasion.... -
I had one made that says I Hear ___________My name is a Real Asshole. It's too small now, but it's a great shirt.
-
I wonder if he'll go full monkey mask ...unlikely, and I'm half kidding...but I wonder if there will be any onstage throwbacks to the BM era... One thing I could get on board with and would spend money for are those custom T-Shirts Matt used to wear ... "I will destroy, you will obey" ... "Cofuckingquitlam" etc. Some quality time travel there... Then, we will be truly 1999ing!

Favorite tracks on Chaotic Neutral?

My list ... Los Alamos Harridan Cold Water Kid Down The Well Army of Lions Moment All You Sons and Daughters Girls in Black Tiger By The Tail Cloudbusting No Liars All Matt Good songs are good by default, but "No Liars" was the get-up-and-get-a-beer song last tour both outings. -
So, on the 1980's note, I think I just had a revelation with regard to the central theme of this reissue. Forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere and I've unconsciously appropriated it -- but perhaps this reimagining has been titled "I Miss New Wave" not only because that song has been reimagined, but because this is a conscious attempt to bring New Wave back to an extent. The full version of Suburbia and the clip we have heard of the title song are dripping with neon and hair spray .... Just a thought.

I had the same experience as you. I clicked on two seats I wanted ... oops, they're gone...move one row back ...gone again...third time was a charm and I got like fifth row, but still ...stupid Ticketbastard.
-
I think someone at WB/his web team may have jumped the gun. It will be the most predictable surprise tour annoucement ever! haha. Going to go SO many times.
-
I just checked ticketbastard because sometimes they jump the announcement gun, and there is also another show listed for 2/25 in Enoch, AB at a Casino.

Upcoming Concerts

Henry Rollins spoken word on Saturday in Toronto! -
Yeah, I tend to agree. I do not find Matt to be a markedly technical guitar player when it comes to lead. I could be wrong, but I think he does an approximation or fill when he demos and then Stu or Jimmy or whomever he is playing with at the time comes in and adds a little bit more flavour to it. Matt is a fantastic rhythm guitar player and knows how to riff like the best of them, though!

Yes! I had a great time also, and picked up one of those sweet "Superman's Dead" T-Shirts. Lots of hits ...was a bit bummed that there was no Naveed at the first Toronto show, but there were so many others, I shouldn't be picky! -

Our Lady Peace with I Mother Earth this Monday! In all my years I have never seen OLP, so this is my first time. I have seen Raine solo once, and once with Chantal Kreviazuk, but this is very exciting. -
No worries :)

If you click on each individual record on this site, a list of interesting tidbits comes up .... http://mattgood.plastic-soldier.com/troublebunch.php

That was one of my potential ones when I was getting mine. I have "one foot in front of the other" on my left forearm and "take the world and make it yours again" on my right forearm.
-
With regards to new material, perhaps he is not recording that now, but I do recall him mentioning there WAS new material that would be recorded. Perhaps this EP/whatever it is will be released to support a BM tour, and then we will get new songs? I remember him saying Something Like A Storm and others were going to get a legit recording... Haha we're so greedy eh ... we want all of the things!

It's definitely the right tone and speed ... I agree with your assessment. I can hear "when the world is screaming..." being sung over that...
-
I recognized you! I said I'd stay back because lights but I ended up being front row centre, but behind the barricade. I posted a shit ton of photos on the Facebook Matt Good fan group (not the phishing one you mentioned). It was a great show; Matt was visibly sick but powering through, and everyone was on point (as always). The unplugged crowd sourced singing was amazing. I didn't get VIP but it definitely seemed weird. I wondered why, all of a sudden, it was (it seemed) inhumanly tall people with telephoto lenses that magically disappeared after three songs...

I could not agree more. Every time I put his music on I think some version of the same thing. It also brings me back to the time and place I first was when I listened... Underdogs brings back memories of when I bought it at Blockbuster Video in like 1997 when they sold CDs and having to turn down Rico during the "fuck off part" - unless I had it on my discman because I could turn it up at that part. Beautiful Midnight will always be high school for me. It helped me get through that whole time. As did AoB at the tail end, there. Avalanche and that period got me really interested in politics - something that has continued up until this day. WLRRR and that period is when I started going to shows full time. I have now seen almost every band I've ever wanted to see (OLP and Radiohead excluded- OLP is going to get checked off in October though). Hospital Music got me through a particularly tough time in university... Vancouver got me through a particularly tough period with my ex-girlfriend. Lights will always be memorable for me because it's when I got to meet Matt and forget my name and speak sheepishly and get the world's most awkward photo taken. Arrows was released literally the week I broke up with my ex of five years and "wait till I get my crown on straight" was particularly resonant at that time. I felt like that record had been personally written for me in a lot of ways (not saying it was haha, just felt like magic) and Chaotic Neutral is the first time I got to see Matt with my fiancee; two great shows, some amazing tunes and a VIP experience when I got to talk to him and make up for the aforementioned awkward photo shoot haha

I am going to TURF ... from years past I kinda think it'll be a hits show, number one (which is still wicked-awesome), and because it's a mostly folk-indie crowd it may just be you on your crutches near the front and me (who can't deal with concert lights anymore because anxiety) at the back grooving louder than the drunken horde between us screaming "Load Me Up" after it's already been played....

One Of My Favourite (Non Musical) Matt Moment
andydanger85 replied to Outtahere's topic in Matthew Good
Agreed! May be the only time I ever get to see The Rat Who Would Be King!
