Yeah, they're really the touchstone for vocals in general - let alone in that crowd.

I used to watch this show every Friday night when I was a kid. It became impossible after awhile because they kept moving the airtime as part of the waltz of the shuffling timeslots that seems to plague every halfway decent high-concept sci-fi show that the network didn't really want to ever produce to begin with. Great cast, great concepts. It was like a new Dystopian dimension every episode.

I'm Canadian, but I've always been fascinated with U.S. politics. I think, above anything else, the difference in the general level of decorum between the two parties' is jarring. The Democrats are having legitimate discussions about problems, with some gentle criticism now and then, and the Republicans are throwing feces at each other hoping it will stick. I'm biased and I'll admit that, but I don't really understand this theme of "restoring" America coming from the right. Restoring it to what, exactly? I could suggest a few examples of what that could mean, but most of it would involve undoing decades of Civil Rights legislation, Supreme Court cases and generally speaking, progress.

He's pulling away in the best singer category after being neck and neck with Dallas for a bit!

So, I did go out and buy this book. I haven't rapturously consumed a book like I did this one in years. On almost every page, I felt like I was reading snippets from my own life being published for all to see. Absolutely fantastic, beautiful words.

They allow you to vote once a day! We can put him over the top :)

I feel the same way, but the one I keep coming back to is Avalanche!

That's a great list! I forgot to mention my tattoos because I didn't think of that as part of a/my "collection". I've thought of getting that exact quotation, as well, and may do so in the future. So far, I have "One foot in front of the other" on my left forearm and "Take the world and make it yours again" on my right forearm.

Just watched The Martian today. Fantastic film. Funny, harrowing, suspensful, and well done in pretty much every way possible.

Need New Music Recommendations

I'm a fan of the song she did for The Great Gatsby soundtrack, Young and Beautiful. Honestly, it's a lot better than the majority of what I've heard from her. -
Hmm...she gets a lot of guff for stuff she's "perceived" to have done, even though I doubt she did about 90% of it. With all due respect, I think that may just be a healthy bit of Yoko Ono syndrome fan bias. I don't like Leah Miller as a presenter, but I have no doubt she is a nice enough gal! http://www.news1130.com/2013/06/03/dallas-green-explores-alexisonfire-breakup-on-new-city-and-colour-album/

Are all of them white? I own it and I don't think I remember it being white. Shall check when I return home. -
Limblifter (superthread)

I think the best collection of songs Ryan Dahle's put out in the last 6-7 years were all on Irrational Anthems. I tried to listen to this new LL record, and most of what I heard was relatively uninspired. -
I was at the show this past summer where they announced on stage that they are "back together" (at Riot Fest). It was CLEARLY crowd pandering, and they later took to social media to clarify that they are only back together in the Royal sense...as in, talking again, friends....with no actual plans to record or tour. Emotionally manipulative, to say the very least.

That sounds very interesting. I'll have to read that one!

Upcoming Concerts
andydanger85 replied to a topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I just found out, thanks to this thread, that Brand New was touring. So, I'm looking into that haha ... loose plans to hit Osheaga for Radiohead. I want to see Explosions as well this year, as has been mentioned before. Obviously another Matt Good show wouldn't go amiss...Riot Fest. Last year was a great year for concerts, so I'm hoping this one is just as good. -
Yeah, I've often wondered whether it was an intentional re-working, like Sam Malone was. He's said before it was the first song he'd ever written. I've seen him live in concert as City and Colour thrice and with Alexisonfire thrice. He has the ability to let lose a vocal juggernaut, but I find he generally only goes to those places with Alexis. I once saw him do a solo version of "Sidewalks.." while the rest of the band took a piss? Smoke? break and it was breathtakingly powerful.

Yes, true. Methinks you're right about omitting Omissions. For the sake of manufacturing, they likely had to make a cost saving decision like that. Still, though, it would have been fantastic to hear that beautiful song in all the high fidelity glory! -
I'll admit I haven't listened to it in great detail quite yet, but from what I have heard - not the biggest fan of the new stuff. Everything post hipster cowboy-hat, I've not liked as much as the first few albums. Not because I don't like change, but because a lot of the songs seem to sound the same. Sometimes, Bring Me Your Love, Little Hell are all fantastic beginning to end. The Hurry and the Harm has a few good tunes...this one just hasn't grabbed me as the others have.

I got my Chaotic Neutral today! Haven't had a chance to listen yet...but it came with a free CD. I thought it was just supposed to be a download code, but hey, now I have two CDs! -
I'm going back and forth between a few... A History of God by Karen Armstrong (just started, no comment yet) Children of Monsters: An Inquiry into the Sons and Daughters of Dictators by Jay Nordlinger...interesting so far, and yet too much speculation at times.

That's what I'm wondering, too. I got a similar email, except it's due to arrive at my home. -
Thoughts On The Evolution Of Matt's Musical & Vocal Style
andydanger85 replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Matthew Good
Yeah, I found it to be abusive at a certain point. It was unnecessary and galvanized me against not only that sort of attitude, but in support of those who were trying to enjoy the damn music and talk about it, too.
