Good afternoon; I've got an older turntable - a Sony that used to be my grandfather's (it's from the 80's, I think). The only issue I've ever dealt with regarding my turntable is replacing the needle a few years ago. The other day, I went to sample my copy of LOTGA and the tone arm skated across the entire record. I tried another side - same thing. Okay, maybe it is the record, I thought. I put on a Sigur Ros vinyl that I have played without issue many, many times and had the same problem. Any idea what could be wrong and what I'd need to do to fix it?

Oh, yeah! Totally! Being a musician and a family man is tough, and I wish that things were different in that regard. They need to get on teleportation technology, a la Star Trek, stat! :)

I completely agree with all of this, with the exception of the last sentence. Greater coverage may indeed lead to greater exposure and recognition, which will allow him to tour more. And it may facilitate greater support from the record company to allow him to do some more ambitious things during recording ... the tail end of the Universal years, as well as the one off Frostbyte kinda indicated that if a record company doesn't want to promote you, it can have an impact on your visibility and ability to tour. It was during that time that the cancellation of the U.S. tour happened due to a lack of viability, as well as the fact that the Arrows of Desire cycle seemed to be very poorly supported. That's my inference, and what I've gleaned from discussions and info on here, mind you. Regardless of popularity or exposure, though, music sales are in the tank. Record companies have fundamentally miscalculated their place in the world, and that's something that Matt has communicated before. Unless you're TSwift or Beyonce and have guaranteed % or advances or are Adele and sell record amounts of albums, no one is making squat on album sales anymore. We're all superfans, so we own his whole discography in multiple formats, go to shows, pay for VIP, seek out autographed stuff ... but casual fans are generally gonna download All You Sons and Daughters on iTunes or torrent Chaotic Neutral or what have you. They're Philistines, sure, but whereas in 1999 they could be counted on to buy the whole physical album due to limits on format, that aint a thing anymore! My point is, the devoted fans want to see him do well, have interacted with him and have a much more sober understanding of the financial realities of being a Canadian artist in 2016. I think that otherwise, name recognition alone is a bit of a slippery slope, because with it comes an assumption that you've made countless millions and live in a mansion with a bowling alley and have three sports cars in your three car garage. But yeah! I totally hope, if Matt were to attend, that it would improve his public profile and thus lead to more artistic opportunities for him! As others have said, I feel like there is a general sense that he is a man to be respected, and for him to claim an "elder statesman" title would be fantastic!

Looks Like Vinyl Releases Of Back Catalog Are Coming

I never thought of it that way! But, no, I can't be arsed to send it back. They clearly haven't found a correction for it yet and don't seem to be addressing it on a wide scale. I'm sure Matt has heard about it, even by lurking on the boards here, and knowing him he probably called someone in charge to ensure future pressings are fixed. In the end, it's one verse of one song ... and now I have a copy of a record I never thought I'd see on vinyl and am just happy to have so I can listen...and make my children listen to whenever I have them. If they address it in a formal way, offering direct replacements I'll go for it. But I'm fine with moving my tone arm two seconds later and getting to have the record. :) -

After not having much time the past few weeks, I listened to Hospital Music today. Same issue. It gets stuck and repeats the same line just before the second chorus. -
Go into the uploads thread and do a search...it comes up and the link it still live...

Hmm....I haven't heard that one... Yes! It's fantastic.

I love me some Bernie Sanders. But I agree with the others in saying that his views aren't in line with a lot of Americans...or, they are, but I feel like he'll never get the chance to explain it because "democratic socialist" means "Pinko Bolshevik" to so many right wingers. I hope his message is able to resonate, but I have a fairly cynical view of the Republican Party. Even if Bernie wins the nomination and he runs against ___________________ , they're going to paint him as an extremist bent on turning the United States into the Soviet Union. Bernie is very eloquent in articulating his positions and he runs a pretty principled campaign. But this level of politics is a bloodsport, and regardless of how good his points may be, or how well he communicates them, the current crop of Republicans can all yell "fire" much louder than he can calmly (yet gruffly) explain why supply side economics is a bankrupt ideology.

I watched "The Island" on Netflix last week. I missed it when it originally came out; decent concept, show like a classic Michael Bay movie ... pretty good overall. I was surprised, because they're dealing with some pretty high level dystopia stuff to begin with. 7/10 The last film I saw in theatres was The Revenant. It is beautifully shot, well acted, beautifully shot, harrowing, and beautifully shot. 9/10

Thanks, please do! It is very direct, you're right. That's why it resonated so much. It's a completely unvarnished, not embarrassed look at what it's like to live with depression/panic. I just started "The Humans" And Girl, do pick it up!

Yes! Hope For Now and Oh Sister are my favourite tracks off that album as well. The song you're talking about is called "The Grace"...great tune, agreed. I remember, I think it was 2009/10, but Dallas Green was one of the artists that announced the Juno Awards and he happened to be the one that announced Matt's nomination for Vancouver. Pretty cool. I'd also like to hear what he thinks. They are my two favourite singers, hands down (my opinion on recent C&C work notwithstanding).

This scenario, which I have encountered many times, paradoxically both irks and fills me with joy. It's irksome, because like yourself, how can you have existed on this earth without being impacted by his music, without hearing his voice, just once. I'll silently shake my fist at the music gods (record companies) that intentionally or otherwise screwed the pooch on marketing or promoting him.... But then it dawns on me that his fanbase is considerable. I see these people every year at sold out shows, and hear stories on here from people who have attended similar across the country. It's an insular community of sorts, but it also feels good to be able to experience his music without some of the other pretensions that come along with being fans of a certain artist. You're not a "little monster" or a "dead-head" or whatever; it's like you've got a fantastic secret that you'll only tell to people you care about because it's impacted you just that much.

At the end of Giant, before Hello Time Bomb begins there's a quick beat of the phaser noise used for the "do do do do do's" in HTB. There's also some finger picking going on before the song starts. This is a famous one I think but in Truffle Pigs, the last time he says "Damn, I'll bring them to their knees", he actually says "Jenn, I'll bring them to their knees". In the live version of Alert Status Red, he says "...in the dictionary under the ENGLISH F", whereas in the recorded version he just says "In the dictionary under "f"' In All You Sons And Daughters, when he says "it's time to get up", it sounds like he wants to say "wake up", which is the modified verse in the next stanza. Subtle, but you can hear it if you listen closely. Someone said it recently on here, but the beginning chord progression of Jenni's Song is reminiscent of "More Than A Feeling" by Boston. They said it and now whenever I hear the song, I can't un-listen it. Haha. There's more, but that's it for now....

Small word indeed! Yeah, I got to the required 60, gained access, and sought out this demo like a heat seeking missile. I've probably listened to it 8-9 times and it is wonderful!

A great deal of the fans of his first few albums are AOF fans, including myself. The issue I have with his new music is exactly what has been mentioned above - he can belt them out real good, but chooses to stay pretty safe a lot of the time. It's not that his newer stuff doesn't sound like him, it's just tonally so much different. He once said in an interview that he only writes sad songs because that's just the kind of mood he tends to be in when he writes and that those are the kind of songs that lift him up. I think all of us being Matt Good fans can relate, there hahaha....but yeah....new tunes are missing that *something*

They did the same thing with Fringe, another Fox Sci Fi show I loved.

I feel you on the abnormally sized head! I have a toque from the Vancouver era that barely covers my hair.

I too would love to get my hands on this song, as I have looked on Youtube, Reddit, pretty much everywhere. I agree with the incentive thing though! Haha missed this the first time around....tis' a good analogy.

Yes! It's nice to have them. If I have an issue, I probably won't send one back just for a problem with one song! -
Aw man! I don't know why I haven't done this before. I love the Evil Dead films and have seen the musical about a half a dozen times!

Honestly, I think Ted Cruz is the worst candidate. He's an ideologue with an Ivy League education that has no intention to compromise. Like Trump, he has extreme views, but coats them with coded words and half-hearted bluster. TL;DR Evangelical Hardliner bad for everyone.
