  1. Yeah, for sure. As one would. I've heard their shows are pretty excessively loud a la Mogwai, but not the quality thing.
  2. Really? Shit. Hopefully the fine folks at VU figure it out ...
  3. Yeah! Me too. That's why I mentioned the self-distribution, because I would like to own one as well haha. Usually bands based in the UK, I wait until they tour in the hope that they bring vinyl with them. Had to wait three years for Yndi Halda to do this, for instance, but it was worth the wait - they released their most recent record "Under Summer" on "cookies and cream" coloured vinyl. It's gorgeous. Slightly related, but Twilight Sad is also touring, if you've heard of them...they are very much in the same sonic space as WWPJ - broody, crescendo-ey, really fucking loud, and unabashed Scottish accented singing! If you haven't heard of them, here's a link: Link to the show (at Velvet Underground, which is a heavy metal/industrial club, weirdly enough) : https://www.ticketweb.ca/event/the-twilight-sad-the-velvet-underground-tickets/8539025
  4. "Our new album, 'The More I Sleep The Less I Dream', will be released September 14th. Preorder your copy from the link in our bio. PLUS, head over to Brooklyn Vegan right now for an exclusive stream of our first single, 'Hanging In'. Link available in our Instagram stories." I followed the link ... vinyl available at shows!
  5. In the tour announcement video on their instagram, it certainly sounds like a new tune. Don't recognize it otherwise, but I could be wrong.
  6. I had to google who that is, but similar glasses and hairstyles along with strong cheekbones .... a passing resemblance.
  7. Did you go to the show two years ago at Lee's?? I went right as I was getting super into them and it was sooooooooooo good. Loud and high energy and ...wow
  8. Just got my tickets for this on Friday, myself! Also, got Radiohead on Friday, MG in Guelph on Aug 2, Godspeed You! Black Emperor August 16th, and The Joy Formidable in November.
  9. Approximately 20-25 songs, in total. He played for much longer than is typical. I saw two shows on that tour, and one was longer than the other (I think because it was Toronto vs. Hamilton), but they were long sets. He would drink wine between songs and banter more than is usual as well.
  10. To me, this sounds peaceful AF. And mature. The fact that you seem to express a sort of guilt for not feeling more, I think, is completely natural. You are affable and responsive and able to be empathetic without being too attached. That makes you good at your job. From the sounds of it, we need more of folks like you around the healthcare system.
  11. The Last of Us is my go-to game I go back to every time there isn't anything out that I am super pumped about. It's also kinda scary and I scare easy so I only play when the wife is around haha
  12. I don't remember the rumours, but that does sound like par for the course with regards to the Metro. That place was the wild west, in every sense of the phrase. I don't think I ever formed an opinion either way about her, but I kinda want to say that she worked as a bartender/server/hostess at the time (I want to say at a strip club) and she had a journal where she wrote about her experiences and it was harrowing/interesting/really fun to read. I would have been 18-19, so yeah, it's been a long time. She was definitely a huge MG fan and if I remember correctly, when there would be personality clashes with Matt on the board she was one of the first to stand up to defend him. Man, those were good days. Facebook/social media kinda ruined fan-boards and the like. I met a couple MG fans in England and got to be really good friends with them for about a year through the Metro. I'm glad we've still got The Bored :)
  13. Yes, that was her. Good memory. I couldn't remember her handle for the life of me.
  14. I also remember her from way back when. Haha. Wow, you guys just took me back...
  15. Brantford show announced, at the Sanderson Centre March 7th http://www.sandersoncentre.ca/Event/TabId/128/ArtMID/557/ArticleID/589/Matthew-Good-–-Solo-Acoustic.aspx
  16. Totally, that's kinda what I'm driving at. More local-type theatres I find will put something up to drum up local interest (even though, let's face it, the overwhelming majority won't be Miltonites or Brantfordites or Richmond Hillians haha. I hope for a cohesive announcement because so far it's been stuff that I'll get to if I have to, but would rather just go closer. Holding out for a Mississauga date at the Living Arts Centre. Seems like the perfect combo/vibe.
  17. To be fair, they're a long way off. Like, nine months. I don't recall there being such a long lead time on past tours. The only reason we're putting it together, even, is because we're die-hards. Who knows, maybe it's always like this, just no one knew to dig or where to look in those other instances?
  18. I had several interactions with her on here over the years, especially about movies. You could tell that she was a really kind hearted person, both on here, and in real life. The fan community - and the world - has lost another great person. RIP Marcy
  19. I tend to agree re: acoustic tour. There's a Richmond Hill show the day after (?) the Milton one if memory serves that hasn't been announced on Matt's site either. People on the MG FB group have been talking about it. https://sa1.seatadvisor.com/sabo/servlets/TicketRequest?eventId=1210133&presenter=RICHMONDHILL&venue=&event=&version=&tck=true
  20. Love this. Totally agree with just about every word.
  21. Yeah, but I didn't say that the rise of the left is due to "right intellectuals" or the "right". I said that much of the vitriol is in reaction to really terrible, morally bankrupt arguments being made out there that aid and abet white nationalist agendas. When you say that socially, our society has shifted gradually left, I agree and that's something that I think we'd have to have a different, separate discussion about because it is so far removed from the current, polarized atmosphere. Sure, there's nuance to everyday political positions, but we employ the left/right dichotomy in every day parlance as a mode of convenient simplification. If you want to go that far down the philosophical rabbit hole, consider that there is no such thing as small government vs. large government; only differing interpretations of how the bureaucracy should allocate its' considerable girth and resources. Cultural marxism is a lens. I teach English literature for a living, and it is one of several types of literary criticism out there. I don't say that cultural Marxism isn't a thing, just that it is misapplied by people like Peterson to impugn the humanities. Look further and you realize that there are also structuralists and feminists and Jungians/acolytes of the "archetype" theory of literature, there are psychoanalysts who use Freud's model of the unconscious mind as a lens through which we can criticize literature. Cultural Marxists seek to analyze works of art and look for power relationships; whether they be master-slave, male-female, employer-worker or any number of different dichotomies. So, I use this language every day, and I can tell you, that outside of certain on-campus stalwarts that make a career adhering to one school or another, the notion of cultural marxism is not this hegemonic force that Peterson makes it out to be. As with many subjects, Peterson speaks with authority on subjects he makes broad assumptions about that fit his narrow worldview. He roundly confuses criticism with censorship; that, by challenging his largely incomplete misinterpretations, we are telling him to shut up. The only expectation in my view that Peterson routinely fails to meet is to be able to elucidate his opinions in a way that is coherent. He is a terrible communicator, and again, I would hope that once his fifteen minutes is up, he goes back to teaching psychology - something he has background and authority in.
  22. Yeah, I was the one taking you to task on the FB page. Sorry, Chris, I want to assert that I respectfully disagree with your position and only respond to you with such zeal because I think we all care about Matt and want him to be okay. I'll repeat my remarks for posterity here: As much as I agree that historically he has indeed reacted to certain comments with anger, I did see the comments that were posted on his Instagram before he removed everything. This is much different. The person in question was brazenly and destructively making personal comments and speculation to the point that ANY logical person might've been turned off by social media as a result. I will absolutely not reproduce them here because they were disgusting beyond words. Again, deleting his interactions with us here or in other locales I don't think suggests that he did not care about those interactions. In fact, when he left here, he sent a statement to Anton that spoke positively about the beneficial aspects of being apart of this community. Matt has been more accessible than artists typically are over the years, and unfortunately this has opened him up to those who would exploit that for attention or to get a rise out of him. We absolutely have no entitlement to personal interaction from him; that I myself have sent him private messages on social media and he has responded to me personally, for instance, is something that I will always cherish no matter what has happened. Matt is the most important artist in my life, and he always will be. I think it's up to us, as his die hard fans, to stand behind him during this difficult time, context be damned. I miss his presence here, and if he chooses to minimize his social media presence in the future, I will miss that, as well. But I have his music, and I have the twenty plus shows I have been to, and I have the remarkably positive interactions from him when he was around. And I have the overwhelmingly positive experience of being apart of this fan community; that, while we can disagree as to the form or motivations of Matt's newfound absence from social media, the reason we're even talking about it is just because we just want him to be okay. We care about him. And he deserves it.
  23. Hmm ... which is the usual credit, but this says Music by: Dave Genn Written by: Matthew Good
  24. I just noticed something interesting, as I just got my vinyl today. In the liner note/credit for Lo-Fi B Sides it says "Music by Dave Genn" for BTK. Did it say that on the original Lo Fi? And if not, I wonder if this is enduring BS re: credits and the MGB days ...
