I was a member well before the deadline so I voted in the super weekend. I am a bit disappointed that the party will continue on with the delegate system, it's great for the first vote, but what about after that? Everyone's up for grabs, it's not really fair since we only get to decide on the first vote and if anyone's already over fifty percent support than the whole party can decide who is the next leader, but if not then it's up to a select few.

Quebec A "nation Within Canada"
Matt replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
The whole idea of seperation has kind have died in B.C., it was much stronger five years ago, but even then it was never truly seen as realistic, more of an idea. You have to remember that about five years ago we had an entirely different government at that. One where our economy was in shambles after only ten years of them in power. Now we're one of the leading provinces in the country under the BC Liberals. They have been working towards creating that smoking ban that the BC NDP messed up until it was abandoned. They are working towards the elimination of fatty foods in public building vending machines, and as of January every child born from there on will receive $1000 towards their post-secondary education to be used when they're old enough. The times have changed drastically for BC so while there are still problems, we have worked through quite a few already along with the help of the federal government on several of them. -
Alright, I finally saw Casino Royale and it was good and definitely on par with all the other movies, and better than the last two Bond flicks. However, it didn't feel like a prequel to the Bond films. My problem with it was the fact they addressed that the Cold War was over, Judi Dench played M (despite the original M was a man...), and Bond doesn't meet Felix Leiter until Dr. No, plus all the technological advances that would have not been in the original films... I think this should have just been a start to a new series as opposed to a prequel.

Didn't Lazenby get fired after one film...? I didn't even think he was all that good...

Quebec A "nation Within Canada"

During the last referendum, if I remember correctly, the Cree held their own one to stay in Canada and to not seperate with Quebec. -
Well about five or six months after "A Hundred Miles Off" released a new CD today, "Pussy Cats". It's basically a cover album of an old CD by Harry Nilsson that was produced by John Lennon. However, they added a couple of covers onto the beginning, one of which is a Dylan cover as well. They're streaming the album at http://recordcollectionmusic.com/pussycats/.

Boredom will help create odd ball threads I suppose...

BishopX wins on a technicality. Ravenous Megin-Sane was correct, however, she failed to mention at least one of the people in the pictures. Character names were never mentioned as an exclusion, so, BishopX wins the 100 NF$. I thought this picture might be blatantly obivous, however, I hoped the game might last a little longer...

Hey guys, well as some might have noticed, I recently changed my avatar for the first time in awhile. If you cannot see the new one, if you click refresh in your browser it should show up, or if not I will also leave an upload version of it below. So, I thought we could play a little game. To the first person to correctly guess what the picture is of and at least the name of one of the people in the picture will get 100 NF$ from me.

Alright, for those unfamiliar with Garth Turner, here's a link to a bit of some background on him. http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/parliame...rth-turner.html. My only problem with him joining the Greens is the fact he made such a big stink about the Emerson floor crossing. He said that MPs should sit as an independant and then become elected with their new party. While, I know he did not choose to leave his party, he is still doing something similar. I personally do not have anything against floor crossing, I just believe if you have made such a statement against it then the person should stay true to their principles. However, even though I am not a Green supporter, it definitely would be interesting to see the fallout for this if the man does switch parties...

It's good, but "Joyful Rebellion" is better. -

I'm not all that excited about any more Tragically Hip CDs, old or new, I figure that I have quite a few and that's all I really need of their collection... -
I enjoyed The Mole as well. Stephen Baldwin was probably the best contestant, however, the first two seasons were probably better than Celebrity Mole...

Either which way The Departed is a good movie...

Well it's bleak, but I enjoyed it and I really think it ended the only way it could have...

The CDs got some good tracks on it, but I think Marianas Trench is stronger live...

The East Coast scene may be producing lately, but that doesn't stop the West Coasters from sending stuff to the same A & R guys. Also Past His Prime has many intrepretations...

Record Companies are an investor, they have to put their money behind what might sell is my point. Any company is out to maximize profits too. Matthew Good doesn't sell as much as he used too, therefore he is past his prime, as I've been saying all along. My point about indie artists selling, is it's people from a select area, so to say indie artists are selling well is a bit mis-leading. There are lots of cool bands that are only big within their scene in their city and a lot of the time most bands don't even have that. My other point was Matthew Good is from out West, perhaps that is playing into why he can't sell records these days.
-
I'm talking about in success though. My point was simply that all the big indie bands are not coming from out here, they're all coming from the East.

Anyone notice that a Canadian has won this show now two years in a row...?

New Barenaked Ladies!
Matt replied to Prometheon's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
It's a good album, I don't think there's any stand out songs, but that suits me fine. I'd rather have a solid album than a bunch of stand outs. -
The Matthew Good Band at their peak either came close too or sold out the Pacific Coliseum back in the Underdogs days. That's about a 1600 seat stadium. Today, Matthew Good plays small little club shows, like a couple hundred people, maybe five hundred at the most. Is it that he's still selling out shows or that the shows are becoming much more smaller? The latter is what is actually happening. I never said riding coattails was good or bad, I was simply saying that bands who did that have a limited time before they are out the door, like a couple years at most. The Barenaked Ladies came into their own with Stunt, they had already had lots of success, but it's the album that made them a household name and not just in Canada. To act like the major label didn't help them out a lot is kind have wrong. A lot of it comes from pure talent, but it still takes a lot of luck and work on the band and their label's part.

As for the Odds, listen to the CDs and you can hear a lot more of what they sound like, most of their singles are not very represenational of their CDs. The Odds are the ones who opened the door was my only point, not that they created the sound. Their sound came from a lot more of the classic rock than anything else at the time, but they also had a The Hip vibe to them. My point was more or less that the old MGB rode a wave much like a lot of grunge bands like no yu begin wher i end used as an example. The MGB were only really high atop the Canadian charts for about a year and a half to two years maybe really anyways. Not really a long standing successful act, eh? As for indie bands, there's bands who go indie later on in their career, such as the Barenaked Ladies. Why did they do it? Well if I remember correctly it was because they are at a point in their career where a major label is not as big of a help to them anymore and they want to own their masters. There's lots of reasons why bands are indie bands, not just because the big labels are so bad, it could just be that's it's not the right time for the band to be with one.
