I never got why anyone ever frowns on bootlegging, even venues. Bootlegging Hollywood movies still in theater yeah I see the issue, but even if you get a quality bootlegged concert you can't bootleg the energy of the band or the crowd or the pro live sound quality, or the feeling of a gazillion watts of bass shaking your chest. The whole point of paying for a concert ticket is to experience it live. I've tried cheering at youtube for another encore, it never works.

Interest in a book form of matt's posts scraped from web archive?

I'd kill for this. I always thought those old blog posts were lost forever... -
It seems really odd to me when people lay down $50+ for a ticket and then just talk to their buddies throughout.

MG crowds I've found have a great sense of humour. I saw a solo acoustic show a few years ago. Matt was saying a little banter about how it shouldn't be "sex, drugs, and rock n roll", that it should just be about the "rock n roll" and leave the "sex and drugs" part out of it. Then some guy in the audience yelled out "but we like those things!. Matt laughed, it was funny. To me it's completely irrelevant the age of a musician, it's how hard and passionate you can play. Blake always plays with a ton of energy & spirit, and I love him for that, he puts on a great show behind the kit, he can outplay a lot of musicians in their 20's and 30's based on the energy he puts into the show.

For Pete's sake thank you so much!!

Hi Marcy, very glad to see you posting here again, I remember you having some medical issues that I hope are for the better now. Welcome back! MG I wish your wife a very speedy recovery.

Stu really slapped the shit out of that solo at the end of Giant in the vid holy smokes. I like the new song! Matt has a super simple pedal board. Stu not so much, I play guitar and don't know what half those pedal are. Very neat, thanks for the pictures!

Yeah, but I also know some people just don't jive working together no matter best intentions either, so whatever.

That would be so cool, and yet it would make more sense to announce it was Rich when the tickets went on sale to maybe give the sales a possible bump. I wish Dave and/or Matt would just man the hell up and talk through their issues like adults, I would be 10x more hyped for an Audio of Being Revisited tour with the gang all back together to do the tour that never was. Probably will never happen but every fan would lose their shit if it did. What hope is there for peace between Israel/Palestine if 2 musicians can't even get over their squabbles from 2 decades ago. AOB was their best album IMO. Could play a tape. But it wouldn't even be close to the same.

Looks Like Vinyl Releases Of Back Catalog Are Coming

Does anyone know if the vinyl reissues are a limited print run? Or if they'll keep printing them based on demand? -
This tour is a lot of fun and a great idea, but this is funny...

Looks Like Vinyl Releases Of Back Catalog Are Coming

Has anyone ever had any problems with the official Matthew Good store website shipping them a copy of one of the new vinyl re-releases where the packaging was damaged? Especially recently? If so, was it easy to get a new copy from the MG store? One of mine I bought was shipped with the packaging signficantly damaged and it should be exchanged. What alarms is this note on the website: "We do our best to assure that your vinyl reaches you in the best possible condition, but given the fact these are being handled and transported worldwide small corner dings and minor seam splits may occasionally occur. If you're a collector who requires mint condition we recommend picking up our releases from your local record store, as we cannot guarantee against this type of transport damage." -
Dave Genn Youtube Interview on Producing and MGB
Moonlight_Graham replied to daniel_v's topic in Matthew Good
Watched the rest of the video. It seems like Dave was an incredibly ambitious musician, and also very creative, and he wanted desperately to make it in the industry and make a living as a musician. He was 28 years old when the band hit big with "Apparitions"/Underdogs as he said in the video, which is pretty old for a rock band, Dave said he grinded it out for a long time and didn't know if was going to ever "make it", sometimes playing in 3 different bands at the same time. So when MGB did make it big, seems he saw it as his big break that might never come again so he fought for everything he could get in the band financially and creatively. Dave talked a lot about songwriting credits in the video, and from what it seems, Dave fought hard for every credit he could get in order to establish himself creatively and financially, I think that was a huge point of conflict in the band since Matt was also prolific creatively. Dave and Matt both seem like personalities who don't back down, and both had strong creative visions, so in terms of song-writing credits and creative control it seems there was a lot of struggle there. Ian and Rich seemed much more laid back & content personalities. In the video Dave talks a lot about how song-writing credits can be incredibly divisive in a band, like Dave said it's hard if you have a hit record where 1 member of the band gets all the writing credit and thus a lot more of the money in compensation and the rest of the band "is stuck eating beef jerky at the husky station" or however he put it, it creates resentment. And like Dave said, if you're trying to stick in an extra bridge into a song just so you can get a song-writing credit or artistic ego instead of serving the song itself well the band is worse off for it. My favorite thing Dave said is that with musicians he produces he looks for those who are not "content", because when artists are content it usually doesn't go well. He also says the best young artists he works with are ones that have something to prove, where someone or something has pissed them off and they have this drive to stick it in someone's face. -
Dave Genn Youtube Interview on Producing and MGB

One thing we have to keep in mind is that for us MG/MGB fans, we've really only heard one side of the story, that being from Matt's perspective. Not saying he's wrong, but different people will have different narratives on events and relationships and it's not really fair to judge someone until they have a chance to tell you their side. -
Favorite tracks on Chaotic Neutral?
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Matthew Good
i feel terrible for not liking "Moment" musically, the lyrics are some of the best on the album, an optimism rarely seen from Matt. -
What a nice interview. That girl was really good at her job, she seems really sweet and interested in his work/life. I like the story about his son walking out on stage hahaha.

Dave Genn Youtube Interview on Producing and MGB

WOW what an interesting talk from him. I never knew he was so thoughtful and phenomenally well-spoken. He would make a great professor/teacher. Very intelligent guy. It's 2 hours long, I'll have to finish it. It's nice that he admits the ego mistakes on the BM record, that's humble of him. Had no idea he was a producer either. Amazing when he said it took him 10-15 years to listen to Beautiful Midnight after the band broke up. Had no idea he was such a serious and ambitious musician either before MGB, I'm glad he saw some success with MGB, he worked his ass off it seemed. -
I just noticed, whoever has done the audio mixing for this album and Chaotic Neutral is goddamned brilliant, whether it be Warne Livesey or somebody else. They must maybe play with pushing up and pushing down the levels on the instruments in the songs a lot to experiment in finding the exact perfect levels for each instrument in the song. You take a song like the new Let's Get It On and the huge volumes of the bass and drums in front of the mix drive the whole song and make it sound so great, and exact same thing with Army of Lions, which could have been a mediocre song if you didn't have the big drums and bass on that tune just make it come alive. I've heard a lot of potentially great songs almost ruined like that. I also must say that I'm pretty anal about EQ levels when I listen to my MP3's, I adjust them all the time when songs have a shitty EQ mix, but Matt's last few albums have had really EQ levels that I rarely have to touch compared to many other bands albums. Usually I have to turn down the treble frequencies because the music is too harsh and hurts my ears, though it also may be due to excessive compression from the whole "loudness wars" bullshit. Note: I just checked and Chaotic Neutral has some compression on it for most songs :colbert: , especially All Your Sons And Daughters. Tiger By the Tail and Cold Water even have some mild compression which is odd. I also just checked the original Beautiful Midnight and it has no compression whatsoever. Don't have the I Miss New Wave CD with me to check right now.

As part of the tour, in the middle of the set I would like a 10-minute interview on stage with former MuchMusic VJ Bill Welychka. At least if he plays in Kingston, I think that's where Bill is working now.

SWEET! When I bought that CD when it first came out I briefly popped in the DVD put didn't really go through it since I've seen all the videos. I think I picked it up a few years later when I was told there was an easter egg to find the Rabbits video on there. Been collecting dust...will bust it out this weekend!

Wait what commentary? Are you talking about the In A Coma DVD? Do those music videos have audio commentary I've never heard?

I broke down and bought all the damn vinyl re-releases before they might disappear. Also got Hendrix' "Are You Experienced?". Sweet. -
I got the EP on CD for Christmas. Finally had a chance to listen through it all. My favorites are Suburbia (very catchy, has an 80's vibe, love the bass) and Let's Get It On (drums and bass on this are killer), I prefer this version to the original. I really find the unique takes so interesting. I Miss New Wave is good, Born to Kill doesn't do that much for me, not quite as unique as the others. Load Me Up sounds so different but it's such a soothing version musically I forget that it's the same song. I didn't like the slower versions of faster songs on Rooms from In A Coma (ie: Hello Time Bomb) so I didn't think i'd like this one, but I was sold halfway through. Production on this EP is really good. And Bones is such a damned great bassist, oh man! Can't wait for the new record.

I find it odd that they didn't release Audio of Being on vinyl. WLRRR I can kind of understand, since it's not as popular. Hopefully we'll get AOB and WLRRR sometime soon. I bought LOTGA on vinyl the other day, $20 hellz ya...worth it even without Omissions of the Omen, one of the best tracks on there. I'd be very surprised if the other EP's you mentioned get on vinyl.
