Odette is awesome. It's even better on the second or third listen. Could be very close to best on record. I like the line "unemployment line stretched to the desert".

Racist? Who's racist? -
I'd say maybe... The Devil's in Your Details Black Helicopter Born Losers ?? I don't know if best but those are 3 stand-outs anyway.

Kool-Aid Party was definitely the most interesting track by them, that doesn't mean the best, but it just had such a cool eerie vibe. In the end however, it would have been completely out of place on the debut. Actually, is there anyone here who has the demo version of the album that would upload it for me? It would be awesome if you could. Thanks a bunch. -

I think it is their best and there is definitely plenty to keep bringing me back to it I'm sure, although I haven't listened to it in quite a decent while, lol. But that's probably because I listened to it quite a bit for a while there. Don't wanna wear it out. -
Ah, such is the case as with most times when I hear a streamed album. I have a big feeling I will love it when I have a cold hard copy of the official album in my cd player. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that upon this listen it hasn't clicked yet which is common with first listens, especially when it's streamed for me. I need the top quality and the better bass I should get with the actual album in my player. There has been a couple surprises for me. Black Helicopter sounds quite different now than the one I have. It's interesting and I think I like the changes made although I wish it was longer. The Boy Come Home sounds a lot better than the one I originally heard and I really like the musicality of The Devil's in Your Details. It sounds really unique and I love the sound and Matt's vocals of course. I'm a Window is more upbeat than I was expecting and I'm glad it is. I think the second half is quite a bit more varied whereas the first is more mellow. Champions of Nothing is a track I think I could grow to absolutely love and Odette sounded pretty damn good on first listen. But it is true that Matt doesn't repeat himself with albums. Hospital Music is quite familiar yet at the same time it's very different and there's some parts that seem odd for a Matthew Good album, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Man, I can't wait to hear the cd in my player. I am sure it will click completely then and I need to end this because it's too long!!! Ahhhhh.
-
I do. Wow, it looks like I'm one of the only. How can you say it looks boring and that it could be better when you were a fan of the hospital room? If anything that one could have been done better and is a candidate for boring. This one actually takes skill to be able to do.

I understand now. That's cool and thanks for answering my question.

Sorry, I am sure everyone knows the deal with it but I don't and would really like to know how/where the Rico shirt originated? Why does it have that sign over it?
-
Yes, but this isn't just the normal cover with a band/musician's face on it. It's painted and I think it's very cool. I think it's a nice cover for this album. It's amazing how accurate he painted it but you can still easily tell it's not a picture if you look close enough. Especially the suit, oddly enough his face is harder to tell, for me anyway. Not knocking the painting in the least here, just saying. I don't think anyone could paint that good that it would look exactly like a photograph.

Lol. That's interesting because I was just thinking of going to FM96's website and seeing if it was playing yet. I figured it would've just started and wouldn't be showing up on the site yet and just as I had that thought I saw that post, so it was weird is all. That is criminal, Linkin Park beating out Matthew frigging Good. How preposterous. I'll go and vote now.

Excellent choices, especially Surfacing. Matthew Good - In a Coma (Deluxe Edition of course). No point in getting the regular. The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema -

The Colour and the Shape is bar none, by a long long shot their best album and also my favourite of all time. -
I think I might like this song the best out of the new batch but I'm not sure. I like 99% Of Us Is Failure and She's In It For The Money quite a bit but if I had to pick I think I'd pick Born Losers. I think there's a good few songs on Avalanche I could replace with it.

Forget calling it the new Tarantino movie. First, he's overrated as shit and second, even though his movie was awesome for the driving sequences, that little other known director's movie Planet Terror was the definite superior of the two. Overall, Grindhouse needed Planet Terror. Death Proof as a whole doesn't work without it. As far as I'm concerned it deserves to be called the new Rodriguez movie before Tarantino.

Grindhouse and it kicked ass. I recommend it to anyone who wants a real fun time just the way it's meant to be at the cinema.

The New Pornographers Thread
Manchalivin replied to Manchalivin's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Cool. So I guess we're 3 for 3 then. We both seem to love Matthew Good/Band, Limblifter I believe and The New Pornographers. All three who are far from the biggest (more so with Limblifter) so it's cool we share the same tastes. -
That a topic must be made for this unbelievably skilled group of musicians. I have to make mention that they come from the same great country as Matthew Good does, which is of course, Canada, which anyone who knows Rush certainly already knows. I am sure there has already been at least one thread made for them but the search function on this forum doesn't make sense to me. They've got an album coming out next month and I can't wait to hear it. I think their last outing Vapor Trails is one of their best ever so this one should be solid. Heck, they have few albums that aren't at least decent. And recently I have purchased all their dvd sets and I can't believe how amazing they still sound after all these years and with how old they are. They seriously sound better than they ever have I think. They are more explosive than a lot of modern rock acts. So, I'm sure there are some big fans in here so show yourself.

I certainly have to now add Rush's cds of the R30 concert. They sound absolutely amaaaaaaaazing on it. -

Absolutely solid live acoustic album. I actually think I like a song or two better on there than on the original album. It would be Next Year. It sounds great on there. Props to the Foo's for this release. -

Here's my ranking best to worst. I am probably one of the extremely rare who ranks their albums like this. Almost completely different from the majority. A Crow Left of the Murder (if they only had one masterpiece, which they do and I think they have two, then this is it) S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Fungus Amongus Morning View Make Yourself Yes, that's right. I place Make Yourself last even though it's a record with a few top rate songs and a pretty darn good record overall. Edit: I forgot about Light Grenades. I don't know where to put that yet so I'll just leave it out for now.
