  1. Finished The Exorcist, going to start The Raw Shark Texts today.
  2. Playing Spec Ops: The Line. Gameplay wise, it's a pretty standard cover based shooter that doesn't do anything outside of the box, except allowing you to dump gigantic waves of sand on people, which right from the get go is pretty horrifying. In terms of storytelling however, well, it's basically Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now (the guy you are tracking down is named John Konrad), but it's a well told story that does a very good job of making you question the actions you choose to take (yes, there choices that affect the story, but no morality meter or anything like that), and does a good job of making the act of violence horrifying. It is a shooter that makes you feel bad about shooting people. And it works.
  3. The song I had him working had a part that was very sparse- just slow, spaced out drum hits with some electronic chime type noises, and another portion with big guitars.
  4. He announces that he's doing them on facebook/twitter, but if you don't use those, that doesn't really help much.
  5. Looks like he remove this one, and the first one was removed automagically by youtube due to length. Did anyone get to catch both? Was he working on the same song?
  6. Finished Blood of Elves. Cliffhanger. Upsetting. It was good though, and I'm not going to complain too much about something I bought for 3.99. Will have to get the sequel one day. Currently reading the Exorcist. Things are just starting to escalate. Such a great book, glad I picked it up. Haven't read it in years.
  7. BONUS MINI PLAYLIST! Songs with the word "whore" in them: Brand New Tune Giant Man of Action Born Losers.
  8. And that is how I spent an hour of my day before work!
  9. I had nothing better to do this morning so I decided I do the animal list. I decided to use any song that had a reference to an animal name, even if the lyrical reference isn't referring to an actual animal, but to a concept or object ('nuclear albatross' in The War is Over, 'high horse' in FXR- though that has the monkey reference, 'truffle pigs' in Truffle Pigs, 'pony boy' from Pony Boy, 'pink bunny suit' from Prime Time). I decided not to include songs that had the word 'animal' in it (so no Haven't Slept or Boy and His Machine Gun) and songs that he recorded, but didn't write (Moon Over Marin). Which leaves us with: Waiting For the Great Destruction (bird) If Bird's Don't Fly Straight (bird) Folk Singer (lion) Push (dinosaur) Blue Bird (bird, bluebird) Parable (lion, bird, bee) She's Got a New Disguise (bird) The War is Over (nuclear albatross) Everything is Automatic (bird) Apparitions (rat) Rico (parrot) Prime Time Deliverance (pink bunny suit) The Inescapable Us (butterlflies) Invastion 1 (dog) Fated (fish) Strange Days (slugs) Failing the Rorschach Test (rabbit) Let's Get it On (blackbird) The Future is X-Rated (monkeys, high horse) The Fine Art of Falling Apart (bee) Carmelina (pig) Truffle Pigs (truffle pigs) The Fall of Man (sheep) Under the Influence (pigeon, whitetip) The Rat Who Would be King (squirrel, rat) Sort of a Protest Song (lion) Pony Boy (pony boy) In a World Called Catastrophe (dog) 21st Century Living (deer) While We Were Hunting Rabbits (rabbits, monkey) Bright End of Nowhere (mouse) A Long Way Down (horse) Alert Status Red (birds) Buffalo Seven (wolf, lambs, buffalo) Ex-Pats of the Blue Mountain Symphony Orchestra (doves) Big City Life (fish) 99% of Us is Failure (blackbird) Born Losers (pirhanas) The Boy Who Could Explode (sheep) Great Whales of the Sea (great whales) A Silent Army in the Trees (whale) The Vancouver National Anthem (snakes, rabbits, carrion) Hornets (hornets) Set Me on Fire (elephant)
  10. I can probably do this at work one day if it is slow enough. Commercial releases or including History Teacher?
  11. I like them and at first glance, they do seem like they'd flow real well! I would make playlists based on what I think would be wicked concert set, so the same idea- trying to get a nice flow from song to song. Though I have to admit, sometimes those would be long ass playlists- like they would translate into a 16 song set and a pair of encores between 4 and 6 songs each. Haven't done something like that since... White Light probably. I think I will steal yours and come up with my own :)
  12. I am going to try to top five this; 1)Sort of a Protest Song 2)A Single Explosion 3)What if I Can't See the Stars, Mildred? 4)The Fine Art of Falling Apart 5)Running for Home The first 3 are easy. After that, I get impulsive and it's usually what comes to mind. I could easly throw Flight Recorder, 99%, LoES, Workers, Volcanoes, Explode, Prime Time, Giant, Suburbia and a few others into spots 4 or 5 and be totally happy with them there.
  13. Yeah, it was pretty cool. The part of the song he played near the beginning of the broadcast was pretty sparse- just drums and an electronic "ping" type sound, plus some ringing guitar chords- it was pretty nifty.
  14. My avatar pic was taken during the Nothing to Hide tour and he was smoking then, so.... 4 years or so?
  15. I have somehow been listening to this for an hour.
  16. Have watched Drive again recently, and Universal Soldier because awesome.
  17. I remember a whole bunch of incredibly useless shit and I don't know why. That's one of those things :)
  18. From what I remember, there were two manifestos that were supposed to be in the book, Night Opus and one other, I forget which one, that didn't get printed and if you contacted Insomniac Press they'd send you out paper copies of them. I never did get them because I didn't care that much.
  19. Currently reading Blood of Elves, one of the books in the Witcher saga. Purchased Let the Right One In, The Exorcist and The Raw Shark texts for my Kobo. Hurray!
  20. A lot of us heard the new stuff last fall when he toured the album, but to answer your question, they sound pretty spectacular live and translate very well from album to a live setting.
  21. I'm listening to one of the recordings at work so the volume isn't loud enough to make a judgement on the quality, but I have to say that is one of, if not, my favorite performance of X-Rated.
  22. I am still passionate about MG's music, but not as outwardly as I have been in the past. I think forums in general are a dying breed
  23. Thank you both for the uploads, can't wait to listen to them!
  24. I haven't actually downloaded my copy of it yet, but I imagine you'd be able to.
  25. That particular bundle is over. If you really want Psychonauts and want to play it on XBOX, it's available in the Marketplace for 1200.
