  1. Um, Edmonton is fine though boring. If you are coming from a shit town already then I can't see much to complain about. We have crackheads and meth-heads just like any other town. The music scene ain't bad. Oh, but everyone votes Conservative....even in the University riding....*sob*
  2. Bob Rock is also producing the new Hip album...so just get depressed now, everyone. My friend insisted I listen to Healthy in Paranoid Times just to give it a chance. I did. What really sticks out on that album is just how irrelevant OLP is. This album could have come out or it could have not come out and nothing would be different. I can't even remember any of the songs...there's just nothing there. They are far past their prime. Then again I find that OLP has always been a 'jr high' band. We are all too old for them now.
  3. I didn't bother reading the entire thread but Death Cab for Cutie apparently got their name from a scene in the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour movie. There is a local high school screamo band called Sophistication is Ballroom Dancing and that is my favourite band name at the moment.
  4. I dig the record. Very good, once again.
  5. Sufjan Stevens - Tahquamenon Falls
  6. CDS! Beatles - A Hard Day's Night Neil Young - Everybody Knows This is Nowhere Rust Never Sleeps Tragically Hip - Hipeponymous John Lennon - Imagine Velvet Underground - Loaded Johnny Cash - American III And the Warriors Special Edition DVD, and the Bowie's final Ziggy Stardust show. Plus lots of underwear...awesome.
  7. Maybe it depends where you buy it?
  8. Reprise is so great. And Bespin the Betrayal

  10. Oh wait, now I know...the I want a Hippopotamus for Xmas one...sadly, I had never heard it until I saw the Telus commercial.
  11. Weird Al....bringing the world together at Christmas
  12. I, too, will back up borntohula on this one. Specificity is kind of necessary and I wish we would see more of it rather than all-encompassing, this-means-nothing garbage. Generalities are why music today is such a trash heap, no one has the balls to say anything.
  13. Apparitions Sort of a Protest Song
  14. I'm glad I saw Malkmus on your list. Face the Truth is such a good record. I also loved Billy Corgan's solo album. Broken Social Scene may take the cake for me. The Most Serence Republic's Underwater Cinematographer was cool. What else came out this year? I buy and steal a lot of old music.
  15. I was about to say how that is both my favourite AND least favourite. What were you thinking Paul?
  16. Whitey Houston - I Remember Big Turk
  17. I enjoy specitficity, its what keeps the song apart from everything else out there. In fact, I hate generalisms in music. Especially the over-use of "this" in reference to the situation. If you ever have it on shitty rock radio and Three Doors Down comes on, he uses that all the time. Specificity is like adding Easter eggs to the songs, like in "Sweet Home Alabama" and the lines about Neil Young, which would lead you to Young's "Southern Man" and "Alabama".

  19. It's just funny. I'm sorry?
  20. Paul McCartney - Growing Up, Falling Down
  21. Yeah, I picked up that chart tonight. Good article, and I'm excited for the tour.
  22. Sweet, I was actually close with the Sammy bit. Damn that cointelpro line.
