Underoath
mrjones replied to MonkeeMan's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Hell nahh. I don't even like Underoath that much, but there's no way Nickelback is better than that band. Or any band. Underoath sings about Jesus? Nah, they're a very religious band but they don't preach anything. They just make it known that the reason they play music is because of God. It was funny seeing Fat Mike from NOFX bash them about it, right before they came on at the Warped Tour. On an other note, their new album hasn't left my car stereo since I bought it a month ago. Its fucking amazing. ;) -
I think he would need someone who is an actual lead guitarist... even though his work is decent, if a lead guitarist worked with him on White Light, it would have been so much better. I think, (I wasn't there but this is the impression I got), that Dave Genn added that angle, back when MGB were still kicking. Someone to stomp on Matt's ideas from time to time, add their own input would probably be a good thing. MGB was the best stuff by a long shot. Yeah, I'd say get Dave back or let someone else take the helm, guitar wise. Also, Pat was fucking amazing on drums. Just listening to some live recordings, I liked Ian's simplicity but Pat knows how to hit those skins. Fuck.

The National - Wasp Nest -
I don't really think it has anything to do with Orca. You're right, it's a better song. But to me, its lyrics have no political meaning. One thing I have always enjoyed about Matt is his music has meaning, it's deep and he writes what he wants. I was actually surprised when he started writing simple love songs, although he does them well too. If it's good music, and what he wants to do, he can write about politics all he wants, it doesn't bother me. Yeah, sorry, sarcasm just doesn't show up well on the net. ;)

What? Dude Advertising, Rorschach, and Season are some of my favourites. Damn. I absolutely can't stand: In A World Called Catastrophe And don't really like: Song For The Girl Double Life How winy his voice got after surgery and the fact he tries to go as high as possible doesn't help but the new songs sound good since he's singing lower. Hopeless Oh Be Joyful (Acoustic)

;) 99 red ballons  Uh, 8.5/10. For some reason I like that rabbit.

I think he stole it from Wintersleep. "I'll be a tidal wave, when I grow up, crashing on harbours." But its okay, as good as Matt's song is, it doesn't stand up to Orca by Wintersleep.

Yeah, I'm not feelin that one man. 4/10. But on a positive note, he does look fairly dictatorish... kinda makes me want to OBEY. ;)

He's actually coming out with a new cd? I'm always interested in what this guy does because unlike a lot of parodies, he does it with tact and doesn't just make shit and fart jokes all the time. He actually has talent and most of his stuff is genuinely funny and well done.

I think from these live versions, this is his best material since Audio Of Being. Definately the direction I want him to go for the next ablum.

The Constantines - Don't Be Denied (Neil Young Cover) -
I went with five of my buddies. It was fucking awesome. I do wish there was a beer garden there though, its too bad really, my buzz wore off at around 4. Gotta Love them mosh pits though. Bands I Saw/Liked: Underoath Alexisonfire Thursday Saves The Day AFI Moneen (Just a few songs) NOFX Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (For some reason I thought they kicked some serious ass up there. Even though normally, I wouldn't like their music.) I am bummed I missed Rise Against, The Academy Is, The Early November, Kincaide, Motion City Soundrack and Cartel (were Cartel even there?).

Underoath
mrjones replied to MonkeeMan's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Yes, it took a little while but this album really grew on me. I was expecting more of a "They're Only Chasing Safety 2" but this album is way better. The screaming is amazing. After listening to this I put on some Alexisonfire and I couldn't listen to more than one song. George's screaming (alexisonfire) is so bland and fairly consistent for the entire song or even album but this guy (underoath) is fucking all over the place. Its awesome. Plus the music, the lyrics, everything, this is a great album. I highly recommend it to anyone who can handle a little heavy music. Songs that stand out: You're Ever So Inviting A Moment Suspended In Time Writing On The Walls Edit: Yeah, I guess thats kinda what Beckoning.To.Sleep said... meh, I'll keep my little pseudo review up there anyway. -
The Format
mrjones replied to noise_pollution's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Yeah, I'm a fan. I can't listen to too much of these guys though, the lead singer's voice is a little too winy. I just got their newest album and its decent and "Snails" is a great song... not sure what album its from. Kinda surprising that these guys got dropped. Seem talented enough. -

David Usher
mrjones replied to Doormat's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I thought that was a well known fact. Obviously not seeing that he was refered to as a "They". Oh well. I think he's great, has some really solid songs. I'm more familiar with the singles; Black Black Heart, Love Will Save The Day... Actually Moist > David Usher. They had such better songs. -

New song out called "When You Were Young". http://www6.islanddefjam.com/www2/av_syste...8Q6me4C26-78070 The vocals are different from the previous album, but I'm a pretty big fan of this new song. -
