  1. fuck hedley, and does anyone have any records from dave's old bands "dead surf kiss/DSK" or "meeker"??
  2. thats a good idea, i like the way you think. instead of just going there, seeing how shitty it is and writing an album about it that people will forget in a few years, they could've actually gone and made a difference themselves. if you have the opportunity and means, why not?
  3. both clumsy and spiritual machines were the creative blips in OLP's career. im not denying that they've accomplished some great things in the past, but now, to me, they aren't doing anything worth listenning to. they're flogging a dead horse, and michael maida's ego is getting in the way (insisting on being called raine, having the songs be credited to raine maida/our lady peace, and not just our lady peace, etc) of the band, not to mention the fact that they have one hell of a boring producer at the helm. i'd say that they're overrated at this point in time.
  4. dude... i CLEARLY said coke-ridden, not cock-riding. you kinda jumped the gun on that one my friend, lol. and as far as what "dudelove721" said about our lady peace v.s matt good, i don't consider popularity a thing that determines one's relevance. big deal, they get played on much music more. so do the killers and tonnes of other bands i don't care for. matt good takes chances. he's willing to make a record like WLRRR and face the fact that not everyone is going to embrace the new sound. our lady peace are a product of arnold lanni, and have basically re-written "hope" for every record of theirs. nice. what an accomplishment. they can have their popularity, none of it matters anyway: "but i was never cool, so you can call me loser". as far as the lyrics in question, i personally believe that when the song is mainly comprised of nonsensical pairings and randomness meant only to make a song "anthemic", it's a bit different than throwing in a few "yeahs" in and around the song. i can't believe you're actually willing to argue that that new OLP song has better lyrics than double life...
  5. what???!!! are you serious??!! the song is amazing. i'll let the lyrics speak for themselves: "come on, come on, come on, come on"... plus or minus a "come on" i mean... that just says it all right there. i've never heard such beautiful words be nasally vocalized by any other coke-ridden has-been. ever.
  6. so yeah. saw the movie last night with "the_rat_who_would_be_king" and another who doesn't use this board. it was quite enjoyable. i'd definitely recommend the movie, even to people who werent familiar with the joke. it's probably the funniest movie ive seen all summer.
  7. i remember that movie slightly. i cant recall if i actually saw it or not. and yes, the_rat_who_would_be_king and i are the only ones who know what that post was about. i'm just peeved that he used my real name and not my call-sign. who does this guy think he is? juanpe?
  8. does anyone know if this movie is going to come out in canada?? looks funny, if you're familiar with the joke. the trailer
  9. yeah its kind of a joke, the same goes for dave navarro. apparently INXS have already chosen their singer and the reality show is just a ruse so that the band can get more press.
  10. i hate JD and everything about him. he used to go around teaching self defense to highschools (mine included) and was the same then as he appears to be now on the show. the things he taught we useless, by the way. except once he did some move and ended up making me bleed. i was kind of angry about that as it was more or less unecessary. also, he used to wear a flashy silver coat... i just thought he was gay, but apparently its because he's just a rockstar.
  11. A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. i'm also a fan of Dubliners by Jaymes Joyce.
  12. not even: !!! <-- thats a real band.
  13. pretty sure theres no e. not being picky, just making the correction so that people get the right person. great artist though, i recommend his work as well. here are some songs i've been listenning to this summer: amusement parks on fire - "local boy makes good" stupid name for a band, but cool song. andrew bird - "lull" laid back kind of tune. blur - "to the end" great band, great song. foo fighters - "razor" quite the turning point for the band. there isn't much to the song, but there doesn't need to be. something to be savorred. giant drag - "blunt picket fence" female artist with the mouth of a trucker, this song explores her "dreamy" tendencies, similar to that of the jesus and mary chain at times. nick cave & the bad seeds - "hiding all away" bluesy-rocker by the legendary band. huge sound. spacemen 3 - "losing touch with my mind" not much to say... i dig this song.
  14. I should clarify. I was just getting at the name more than anything else. As someone stated, most music is 'emotional', so the term literally encompasses almost every song in existence. Seems like they, whoever they may be, could have come up with something a bit less...intesely vague. At any rate, Billy Talent tends to annoy me, if not to the point of hatred. agreed!!!
  15. funny you mention that... david byrne loves them. he's brought them along for a few shows and wants to record something with them.
  16. DCFC are alright... i tend to enjoy the postal service more though.
  17. emo was quite the genre. it doesn't really exist nowadays though, despite what people might try to pass off as emo. it even had its own "scene" or place of origin (washington D.C.), and had close ties to the D.C. hardcore scene. listen to real emo. bands like rites of spring, elliot, (early) modest mouse, fugazi, and even sunny day real estate. blam.
  18. whats worse is when people AGREE.
  19. exactly. it seems like people don't like change or anything out of the ordinary... i guess that problem can may be attributed to the fact that all of this takes place in a music industry. joe blow only has $15, and he'd rather spend it by not taking any chances. people are too quick to dismiss. unfortunately, i myself doing the same.
  20. at the same time? that must sound horrible. Matt Good - "Brand New Tune"
  21. some people might resent the fact that once radiohead started to gain momentum and popularity, they took a sharp turn into the unknown, making obscure (but great) music. i don't. radiohead seem fairly consistent to me, and in retrospect, they are obviously a band with a vision of what the future of music can be like, and they're doing their own part to make that vision materialize. they've been clearing a path since the very beginning; bands will be trying to emulate radiohead for decades to come. their story is a classic one, they helped nuture and form a sound for contemporary music, and once that well had run dry, went on to try other new things, rather than continue flogging that dead horse and having their material suffer and become stagnant as a result. at this point i'm not a huge fan of radiohead, but they certainly have my respect and a spot on my playlist.
