good point. i shouldn't subscribe to these socially constructed, gender specific norms. be free girlpants, be free. -
which wont be the case in spiderman. the casting is horrible and always has been, which plays a huge role the movie's overall goodness. topher grace as venom?? fuck, kristen dunst as mary jane is probably the worst decision ever made. a) she isn't good looking B) she looks tired/high/stupid ALL THE TIME. the day i like spiderman movies is the day that kirsten dunst emotes.

thats no trick, it's a blessing. otherwise everyone would be listing everything and i'd have to read it all. lately i've been liking: six organs of admittance - "school of the flower" graham coxon - "girl done gone" black mountain - "no hits" the new pornographers - "sing me spanish techno" david pajo - "war is dead" i tried to make it a broad mix. broad within an anglo-centric scope, of course. fuck world music. -

if you could make it work i think it'd be awesome, but it certainly seems like a hard thing to tackle. good luck.

i am a musician, and i do notice and appreciate when effort is put in by an artist, certainly. at the same time, after hearing "beautiful lie" i can't help but think that they went overboard. the production itself on the album is well done, but it feels incredibly sterile. i think that translates into how i think they sound derivative or generic. theres no grit... or mood... that coupled with the fact that i don't like the music whatsoever, and i don't end up with a pleasant experience. im a fan of perfectionists, don't get me wrong... i love nine inch nails, there's a perfectionist for you. but, i dont believe that the more time you spend in a studio, the better your record will be. jack white pops in and out of the studio in two weeks and manages to make incredbly consistent records. nick cave & the bad seeds have been putting out albums almost once a year since the 80s, and they're all great. i realize that music is inherently derivative... you can't go forward without knowing where you came from. the beatles are a prime example of that. so are led zeppelin. at the same time, they did variations of the contemporary and eventually changed it to suit their needs. as far as 30STM are concerned, last album they sounded like they wished they had been born a decade earlier, and nothing has changed since then. they have no spin to put on it. what's worse is that they truly believe their music is revolutionary.

if i had to choose, id say "prime time deliverance". i don't know... i just can't get into it for some reason. theres nothing wrong with it, its more just me getting used to it. one day it might be my favorite, but not now.

this is a good cause. i'd like to suggest people take a look at k'naan. he lives in toronto now, but originally comes from somalia. you can visit his main website and sample some audio there. The Dusty Foot Philosopher -
what change? just the fact that it takes a more prominent role in the acoustic version?

mark me down for generation x-wing for me as well. there was something about it that seemed completely different and moving. it was really strange when i heard it the first time. i think north american for life is definitely the song from rooms which i didn't like in it's original form, but i "get it" now... which is awesome. another thing to note would be how strange days sounds much more manic this time... interesting twist on things.

it's weird how sad "hello time bomb" sounds when he slows it down. when he sings the chorus and barely gets "i'm ready to go off" out, it almost sounds like he's saying i'm ready to die. sad.

not really, i could've said worse. i just compared them to a band whom i also think make nothing but derivative music. here's a list of other bands who i put in the same catagory: chevelle, taproot, trapt, seether and evanescence to name a few. theres nothing new about their music, so why should i listen to it? wow, can you hear those groundbreaking quiet-loud dynamics? WHAT???!! he's screaming???! in a song? that's unheard of. LAYEREEDDD GUITARS???!! who do they think they are??! jared isn't that bad of a signer but i don't think he's anything special. if the band played as well as jared acts sometimes, then maybe i'd pay more attention. i'm sure they might mean well, but they're trying too hard to be something, or profound, when in fact they're offerring nothing in exchange for the listener's time. they're most likely to be one of those bands who are on a soundtrack for a film that paul walker is in. you know, all the ones where he plays the same guy and lives his life "a quarter mile at a time".

so far so good. i'm working my way through disc two right now. ... and it's really good. i like it a lot. the reworking of "generation x-wing" is my favorite so far. i've got plenty left to check out though.

from what i've heard, i like the album. but i need to spin it a few more times to really get into it. so far, "use it" has to be my favorite song. -

exactly. somewhere down the road, raine decided to stop writing his own lyrics and opted to just hide in highschool locker rooms stealing bad teenage poetry. i guess that's so the kids can still relate? i don't know. i saw the video for 'automatic flowers' the other day and realized that there was a time when the band was actually good.
