Well what do you know...almost 2 months after i created this topic, the prediction is becoming a reality. Only days after Bush got re-elected, there have been reports all over the news of U.S. Coalition troops ready to invade the Iraqi city of Fallujah. Expect the invasion to start within the next week. They are still saying it will be a bloodbath, and that is will be one of the biggest and most important operations of the war. The funny thing is, in a press-conferance a few days ago Bush was asked about the attack on Fallujah, and Bush said that he wasn't deciding when to attack, but that it was the President of Iraq who was making the call. Yeah right...conviently 1 week after the election. total B.S.

Kerry doesn't want to raise taxes, he wants to rollback the tax-cut Bush gave to the richest 1% of Americans. If thats technically a "tax-cut" then so be it.

Juanpe, 1st let me say i'm sorry about the death of your friends and family. Yes your 2nd post was more clear. I just thought you were dodging the question in your 1st reply, because it didn't directly answer any of my questions. From the gist of it, you are for solving disputes though communication and co-operation and are against military action. I still feel though, that your views, as you've admitted before, are a bit idealistic and utopian. I just have to respectfully disagree with your opinion that ALL wars are unjustified. Civil wars are usually much different than other wars. They are usually an uprising against government, or disputes between 2 sides about rights or the separation of states. Often communication and trade-offs can work, or at least help the conflict. But civil wars are much different than one country invading another for the purpose of acquiring territory etc. like Hilter conquering Europe or Saddam invading Kuwait. Sometimes communication, trade embragos, or economic sanctins etc. just do not work. Same with genocide. Yes it is always best to use diplomacy before military action, but the reality is that it doesn't always work. A country that invades your country, and doesn't respond to any talks, will leave you with 2 choices: either you choose not to fight and risk death or slavery, or you can choose to fight back for your freedom. Personally i'd do the latter. It would be interesting to see what you would do if forced into such a corner, and thats really what my other question was trying to ask. As English philosopher Edmund Burke once said: "All that is necessary for the forces of evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing".

i think its the 2nd best song on Avalanche next to WWWHR. Many would disagree with that, but i still think A Long Way Down is an amazing song and doesn't get the respect it deserves. anyone agree?

Kinda Dumb Of The Bloc
Moonlight_Graham replied to calgarydave's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
it doesn't suprise me about the bloc. Its too bad Quebec is situated in the middle of the country. If they were on the coast like BC i wouldn't care much if they seperated. It sure would solve much of the animosity and problems in this country. It still would be very sad, but if thats what they want.... -
Kyoto Pact Finally Takes Effect
Moonlight_Graham replied to HoboFactory's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
I watched a TV program with David Suzuki about kyoto. The sad thing is that he said Kyoto would only be a very, very small scratch into getting us to reverse the damage on the environment. If its so difficult to get countries to even agree to Kyoto, how in the heck are we supposed to actually get countries to make major changes to help save the environment? Are we all doomed? -
others have already done a good job at refuting the invalid things on that list (which are most of them). But the argument that always really bugs be is: a. Kerry didn't vote to send our troops to Iraq. He voted to give the President the authority to do so. b. Kerry DID vote against a bill that would give the troops $87 billion in funding for weapons and body armour, but he only did so because he disagreed with the way the President wanted to pay for the funding (ie: add it to the debt). Kerry wanted the bill changed so that the armour/weapons would be paid for by the President's reversing his tax cuts for the wealthy. also.... anyone who watched the debates would know thats not true. In fact he said he wanted to raise the minimum raise.

lol. uhm ok lets retry Aerosmith: 9/10. they have a ton of good songs and Steven Tyler has a cool last name and a giant mouth. Nickelback -
Juanpe, you didn't answer my question about the WWII scenario. I'd like to know what you would do, or how would you handle the scenario(s) i described.
-
sorry, but i'm gonna "get over it" or "give it a rest". You'll just have to get over the fact that for the next 4 years and beyond the world will be pounding on Bush and the 51% of Americans who voted that dolt back into office. Small price to pay for attributing the total fuck-over of the world.

remember when the Philedelphia Phillies flew the Canadian flag upside down during the 1993 World Series back vs the Blue Jays? Canadians were kinda ticked, but that was because it was an unintentional error that was a bit disrespectful and embarrasing for us Canadians. This flag thing with Matt Good was obviously intentional, so it changes the meaning of it. But despite what the upside-down flag means, if i was MG i wouldn't screw around with another countries flag, even to make some political point. Some americans will definately see it as a sign of disrespect.

i completely agree with Matt's main point. As much as it sucks, sometimes you can't avoid war, such as in WWII. Juanpe, your intentions and ideals are admirable. Most would agree with you that war is horrible, that talking and co-operation should become before violence. That all efforts of peace should come before violence. But Juanpe, i would like to know what you would do in WWII, when Nazi Germany and its Axis allies were tearing through Europe, conquering countries and killing innocent people, including millions of Jews. And what would you do if Hitler invaded your country and started the slaughter? You could try all efforts to talk to them, but what if they wouldn't listen and just took what they wanted? Would you be pacifist and just let them kill you and your family? Would you let them take you and your family as slaves and lock you in cages for the rest of your lives? Is that what you're saying? That you'd rather have you and your family and countrymen die before ever fighting back as a means of self-defense. I just want to know what you'd do.

Don't Mourn, Organize
Moonlight_Graham replied to no yu begin wher i end's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
thats a great point. Rather than disillusioned Americans moving to Canada, which many will and some already have since the the war, wouldn't it be better for the sake of the world to have these people stay in the U.S. and act as voices of sanity...rather than they all leave the U.S. if this became the norm, i fear the U.S. would become populated by only the extreme right-wing...who would of course vote in the extreme right-wing candidates who would pander to them every 4 years. -
Usa 2004 Elections Results
Moonlight_Graham replied to juanpe's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
i'm disappointed with Bush winning. Not much else to say. I see the other side and why some people would vote for him, but I personally was disgusted by much of his conduct and that of crew (Cheney, Rummy etc.). I just pray we aren't all fucked right up the ass the next 4 years. The thing i am mad about Bush is that he takes NO resposibility for anything, and he makes nobody accountable for the admin's mistakes. Bush didn't fire anyone after it was discovered there were no WMD in Iraq. He never made anyone in the CIA accountable for the shit-ass intelligence he was given. Yet the director of the CIA, George Tenet, actually quit on his own accord after the CIA's failures of 9/11 and Iraq...yet Bush thought Tenet did a "superb job" and didn't want him to quit. WTF??? And why is Donald Rumsfeld still employed? And/or Cheney? Doesn't somebody have to take resposibilty for the Iraq screw-ups? My point is that if Bush won't take responsibility for his own mistakes or the mistakes of his admin, and he also won't make anyone accountable within his admin...then it should be the responsibility of the American people to punish Bush and his admin and make them accountable by not voting them back into office. Thats what also kinda PO'd me during the last Canadian election. The Liberals have become a bunch of lying, arrogant, wasteful, and corrupt bums in government, and IMO they needed to be held accountable by the Canadian voters and be sent the message that we won't put up with that shit. Even if we voted in the NDP or Conservatives in a minority gov't for only 4 years, at least the message would be sent. The Liberals are still in power, unfortunately, but at least they lost much of their power, Chretien is gone, and the message has been sent. -
i followed the results until about 2:00am, then when i realized nothing would be resolved in the Ohio situation at least for another several hours, i just went to bed. then i woke up to the crappy news i was hearing when i went to bed: that Bush was likely going to take Ohio.

exactly. i think of the similarities of Bin Laden and Che Guevara all the time. Once Bin Laden is dead, he will become a legend and young muslims everywhere will be walking around with Bin Laden T-shirts on. this war on terrorism is screwed up, and will be hard to win. It will never be won, but only supressed until it becomes as minor problem as possible. Its like trying to stop all murders, its impossible. you can't stop every single individual out there. i think they must cut off the terrorist funding as much as possible. Take away their money and they can't buy weapons, nukes, equipment, training etc. Also gotta stop countries who fund or harbor terrorists. ahh what a mess.

i can't make any sort of guess on who's going to win, because the pollsters have basically thrown up their arms and said "we don't know". This election is just too close to call. It will be a fun and interesting night in front of the TV on Tuesday night.

its impossible to be for the war in Iraq right now because the major reason for invasion (WMD's) turned out to be falsehoods and lies. It seems to me that if you are going to invade a country because they have WMD's, you better be damn sure that you know for a FACT that they have these weapons, and not act on an "educated guess".

heh, i saw Starship Troopers in the theatre with my buddy. It was...uhm....not the best sci-fi movie ever but somewhat enjoyable. My favorite part is that big blue alien that shoots missles out ofits butt. i also like seeing the boobies of that really hot chick.

Rolling Stones Best Album
Moonlight_Graham replied to THE MAN's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
i only own their 1967-1970 best-of CD of whatever, as well as the "40 Licks" greatest hits CD or whatever its called. So i know the songs i like, just not the original albums. -
good post. What i have found hilarious is that Bin Laden, even before the 9/11 attacks, has said most of this Arab hatred of the West comes from them coming in with their military might on Muslim territory, killing innocent men, women, and children with no regard. And yet the first thing Bush/the U.S. does is plow their military might right back into Iraq. The US just doesn't get it. It doesn't mean that they shouldn't fight these terrorist, but it just shows that they don't understand what the hell is even going on. Bush always said stuff like "The terrorists are evil. Bin Laden is evil. They hate us and our way of life." Has Bush, or anyone else, ever took the time ask "why" they hate us? i hate sounding like a Bin Laden sympathizer or something, but the North American media really puts a veiled spin on Bin Laden. He's not evil. Well, no more evil than any other military going in and killing innocent people for a cause. Bin Laden is not a madman. He is an intelligent thinker and has a logical mind. And he sees something he doesn't like, and is doing his best to fight the forces he feels are causing him harm. Not much unlike the U.S. and the rest of the world right now. its funny how both sides are so similar.

"Failing the Rorschach Test" is one of my fav song titles by Matt. so cool. Also, i think "So Long Mrs. Smith" is some sort of story about school, and leaving a BS school. Mrs. Smith is a teacher, and Edison is another school that he's going to go to after when he leaves. and yes i believe Mrs. Smith is just a generic name.
