Don't you live in B.C.? Of course i'd vote for someone who can't speak french, but i'm just saying that someone unilingual would have a hard time getting voted Prime Minister. And yeah people cross the floor all the time, but not 2 days before a very close and important vote.

i feel the same. It would be great to get that same-sex legislation in place. The Liberals should clearly step-down. If this was going on in the U.S., Martin (& Chretien?) would have been impeached by now and people would be yelling in the streets. This Liberal b.s. is clearly much, much worse than Watergate. Poor MacKay? McKay was the one who betrayed David Orchard when he promised him that he wouldn't try to merge the alliance and PC's if he became PC leader...and then of course MacKay turned right around and successfully helped merge the 2 parties. Karma's a beautiful thing baby! Then what in the living fuck is the answer? Vote NDP, Vote Green, vote marijuana party, for Conservatives...i don't care and it doesn't matter, just get the stinking, thieving, sneaky, corrupt, arrogant, lying Liberals out of power. Judge Gomery is just going to dig for the dirt, he's not going to punish any of them. And the Liberals aren't going to fix themselves, thats like "letting the criminals run the prison". To vote for the Liberals is to tell them that what they are doing is ok. Even if a somebody doesn't want to vote for anyone, at least show up on voting day and spoil your ballot. At least that sends the message that you actually care whats going on. Harper does suck shit. The last 4 times i voted (2 provincially, 2 federally) i voted for one of the Conservative parties. But Harper really has me 2nd-guessing how i will vote if there is a fed election soon. I will either 1) vote Tory, 2) vote NDP or another party, or 3) vote for the non-Liberal party that is most likely to win in my riding (which is probably the Tories).

Belinda did a pretty nasty thing. I think her motives were both of what she was saying, but also had a big deal to do with the fact that she hated Harper (not just policies, they never got along personally and were both competitors for the Tory leadership) and that she wants to PM one day or lead a party...which wasn't going to happen with the Cons. If this was just a matter of differences with the direction of the party & its policies, the right thing for Belinda would have been to leave the Conservatives and sit as an indepedent and vote on the budget whichever way she chooses. And then if the budget is passed & no election is called she could have taken her sweet time to choose if she wanted to join the Liberals or return to the Cons, or just continue to sit as an indepedent and represent the people of Newmarket-Aurora. If the governement did fall, she'd could go to the Liberals (if she wanted to keep her seat) or stayed an independent (which would have been the honourable thing, but she might have lost her seat...which makes no sense anyways because all the people who voted for her in Newmarket are fucking PO'd now @ her and she may lose her seat anyways). Defecting to the Liberals 2 days before the vote just smells like ass. It was an obvious power-grab. Someone with almost zero political experience and is unilingual is now a member of the Liberal cabinet? I think Belinda thinks of herself too highly in the political relam. She's can't speak french, has barely any political experience, and just ran a company her daddy let her run. If she's going to lead any party it will take her at least 5-10 years to get there, but she seems to want it right now. I just wish it was Harper who bolted instead of her. ;)

Please, British Columbia, Don't Be Stupid.
Moonlight_Graham replied to Bizud's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Just remember that whatever the Liberals say they do, they'll do the opposite....or just don't believe what they say altogether. Thats what happened in Ontario the last Provincial election. Anyways, i know nothing of BC politics, so happy voting y'all. -
Abortion Question
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
A seed is just a seed (like a sperm or a woman's egg), but if you plant that seed in the ground and it shows the first signs of sprouting into a tree, and then you dig it up and destroy it, then i think an argument could be made that you detroyed a tree....or something much more likely than not to turn into a tree. Also, if you destroy a pile of bricks you are not destroying a building. Bricks can be made into many things. A developing embryo can only turn into a human being. A better argument would be to say if you destroyed the frame of a developing house, did you destroy a building? Also, a question: when does a developing baby inside a mother become a human being? Up to what point in development is it ok to abort and then not ok? Where is the line? -
Abortion Question
Moonlight_Graham replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
a fetus is a developing person. Shortly after conception a baby is just a clump of cells, but that clump of cells has the overwhelming potential to become a human being. I was once a fetus and a clump of cells, i was never a dog. -
i dunno. it will be interesting to see what happens if/when North Korea tests their nukes.

i really wish the Conservatives would get rid of Harper. He makes me really question voting Conservative. On one hand its great that the Liberals may finally be getting out of power soon, but yet it sucks because i wanted the Conservatives to realize that Harper sucks & to have another leadership convention and get someone more..."Canadian" in their beliefs. If the Cons had a less extreme leader they would be a decent party. Maybe i can build a machine and throw Mike Harris and Jack Layton inside & a good candidate would pop out!

Besides danger to the mother and maybe rape, what possible reasons could a woman (or couple) have to get an abortion that would be morally ethical? I get the argument that women should have the right to decide over their bodies, but i mean shit...why don't they just take some responsibility, endure 9 months of uncomfortableness, and have the baby and give it up for adoption? What pisses me off is the idea of killing an unborn baby because some young woman is too embarrased or scared to tell her parents. Someone would kill a baby & deny someone their life over shit like this? And i'm not talking about laws here, like pro-choice or anti-abortion, i'm just talking ethics/morality. Lets say abortion was be 100% legal, but can any arguments be made for it to be moral? p.s. I know this going to open a can of worms, sorry.

Where did you get this theory from? Did you make this up yourself? It scares me. p.s. When N.Korea launches missles at Japan and US, are they nukes or just regular missles? bah it doesn't matter, we kicked N.Korea, China, and Soviets ass in the first war, we can do it again. And all with rubber bullets!

The Russians Are Coming!

i want one of those tank-cars. -
yeah it would be great if they passed same-sex legislation and some missle-defense legislation that couldn't be reversed easily.......then we go to the polls. But damn, i have no problem with the non-confidence notion passing because does anyone really have any confidence in this gov't anymore? I believe i heard the motion passed 153 votes to 150. If the Liberals should stay in power, let the people decide. But i really do think the people deserve another election after all thats happened.

good point

yeah, i agree it should be included. We already glorify war far too much. I live in Ottawa so i hope to go visit this museum sometime soon. I heard its fantastic.

in a way, the tax actually makes sense. The tax money should go to the healthcare system, which has more pressure put on it for these overweight unhealthy people (ie: you & I) who eat these foods. on the other hand, taxes suck.

yeah Spritzup, its pretty crazy. It was amazing to see all the love for the Canadian Vets. I have the utmost respect for those who fought and/or died for our country. As they say, they were "the greatest generation". What really brought WWII home to me was about a year ago, my grandmother moved out of her home to go into a retirement residence. We were cleaning out her house, and she had an old scrapbook she kept from around the time of the war (she was about 20 at the time of the war). In the scrapbook were cut-outs from newspaper obituaries, and it had all the different boys near our age at the time that my grandmother went to school with who had died in the war. There were a whole bunch of people she knew and grew up with who died. It was pretty sickening. Just imagining that happening to you. Seeing dozens of friends and high school chums you know dying in war. Or checking the obituaries every morning to see if another person you knew had died? Or you yourself having to go to war. insanity.

What are you listening to?
Moonlight_Graham replied to Matt's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Matt Good AFC stuff. Sounds like alien radio transmissions though. -
i feel bad for the Princess. How long is Mario going to bang her? ;)

i would think she should have every right to refuse the blood transfusion. Its her body.

i would have voted for the party that is for not brushing their teeth or changing their underwear? Oh wait, thats all of them. HA!

I can't see a big truck that transforms into a giant robot with lasers ever losing to some dude with a utility belt. The only way Optimus loses is if he tried to drive over batman, and then Batman hops into the drivers seat and steers Prime into a lake. Or maybe Prime will just run out of fuel because gas prices are so high. haha

Yeah, me too! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! And the Doctor with the scarf, that telephone booth thing, and the inside of the ship. Thats all i remember. Oh, and the theme song. I watched the pilot episode. It kinda sucked. I watched another episode recently and it was cooler. It had these green aliens which weren't CGI (die CGI, die!). I just wish there were more aliens and other planets instead of them just hanging out on earth (boring!). The guy who plays the Doctor is pretty good. Rose is kinda annoying, and her mom looks like Baby Spice from the Spice Girls if she were 50 years old. But the next episode they have the Daleks, so i will definately watch! EXTERMINATE!

These Marxist-Leninists......do they actually know the stuff Lenin did? Maybe Marxist communism would work, but they need to add some checks and balances to the system to prevent dictatorships. Also, maybe you could combine communism and democracy. Take the basic communism system, but let the people vote every 4-5 years or whatever on who to lead the country. That would get rid of the Castro's and Kim Jong Ill's (spelling = bad) etc.

bizud, yes the leaving of doctors is complicated by the fact that we have an aging baby-boomer generation which will put more strain/demand on the system. But we can address these problems with "government incentives"? Basically meaning letting them make more money, thus raising taxes? How do you drive an ecomomy without business? I think my philosophy is that we still can have our social programs and not have a U.S. style structure, yet at the same time we must realize that, economy-wise, we're going to have to compete with the US. Canada needs to find a balance between our socialist and economic needs. If we go to far to the left economically its going to screw us up. I also think that Universal Healthcare, as our system works now, does not work right and we need to tinker with it. That means more than just more funding.

Yes, Europe is a different story. They are social democratic countries surrounded by other social democratic countries. Canada is a COMPLETELY different situation. We have the good ol' USA right below us and as our primary trading partner. The USA is a low tax, very capitalistic, very free-market society compared to Canada. If Canada takes 50% of small business owners salary for taxes (like my father), but the U.S. only taxes a small business owner 25%....why in the world would a business owner want to stay in Canada? Why would someone on the global market invest in Canada rather than the US? How can the Canadian businesses compete with the US businesses? (ie: look at the Toronto BlueJays, they need to fork out about $100 million dollars to have a $50 m payroll because the low Canadian dollar + high taxes...and they must compete with the Yankees and Boston?). As for the brain-drain, i completely disagree that its overstated. Have you ever waited in an Emergency Room lately? Have you ever tried to get an MRI? Have you ever moved to a new city and tried to get a family doctor? About 2 years ago i was having health problems and i went into the Emergency Room. I had to wait 6 hours to see a doctor, and when i did see him he was just a university student about my age at the time (22)....then he sent me home & told me to take 2 tylenol because he thought nothing was wrong. The next day i was lucky enough to see my family doctor who ended up admitting me into the hospital where i would stay for 5 weeks. My lifelong neighbour was also a doctor and he moved to the U.S. about 7 years ago and won't come back because he makes more $$$ and is taxed less. So basically, what i'm saying is that you can't compare Canada with these European socialist countries. By geography, they are in a totally different situation than Canada. Everyone just isn't in its own bubble.
