  1. I like the simplicity of it. It going in reverse at the end is neat. Better than typical lame videos where the band is just fake performing for most or all of the video. I never understood what people liked so much about music videos when so many are just that.
  2. It's interesting that this single is like radio/anti-radio. The verses are kind of odd/unconventional but the chorus is very radio friendly. Yeah, I look forward to lots of more up-tempo stuff. No ballad until track 9, that's very different for him. I hope Guns of Carolina is not a completely acoustic song on the album. To be honest I find the one he played live rather boring. Moonlight: Where was he walking to in the video?

  4. I think I'm taking the song too seriously. Someone mentioned it being like a modernized version of Coming Out in Purple, a goofy MG song that I actually quite like. I've listened to this a few more times and I can kind of hear that comparison. The music in the verses of Had It Coming is kind of unconventional and MG's vocals coupled with that is actually starting to sound kind of fun and enjoyable to me. It sounds like he loosened up and really had fun with this album which is nice to hear regardless if it floats my boat or not. And this is only one/two songs. There could be a surprising amount of variety on this album. I don't really know why I would assume it will all sound like this song. I'm glad he took the risk and changed it up yet again and created a sort of new rock sound for him. I am a fan of him going more up-tempo. I like the bass in Had It Coming, the chorus is quite catchy and the solo is nice. We're Long Gone has some nice keys and is pretty catchy and enjoyable. Weird how perspectives can change with music so quickly sometimes.
  5. I'm guessing this is the album art. I like it, but I think I like the single artwork better.
  6. Ughh. I guess it had to happen eventually. The first time I have not been feeling a new MG song at all and am concerned about the new album. I fear the whole album will be very similar. The main problem: the vocal style. It's not Matthew Good. It sounds to me like he's forcing something that is not him. It reminds me of Pixies and they have some decent stuff but it's not something I want to hear from MG. I wanted some more sincere sounding, passionate, famililar MG singing of old. I was hoping for more of that after LOES lacked in that department. It sounds closest to White Light vocally, but that worked for MG somehow and was still different, this doesn't in my opinion. Also, coming after just having done a different style album makes it worse. It would be better if it came after a more familiar style album as something different. The chorus isn't bad at all on Had it Coming and We're Long Gone is better I think, but it really did next to nothing for me on first couple listens and I have a hard time imagining this growing on me. Maybe I'm blowing things out of proportion based on one song essentially, but I really expect the rest to be quite similar. I will say it is nice to hear more upbeat stuff from him and the video is cool.
  7. Cool, a new song that isn't either of the new singles? How did it sound? Edit: Oh sweet, I guess I'll be able to hear for myself soon.
  8. New QOTSA sucks so that's no surprise. It's boring and bland. I think we're in for some more 'different' Matthew Good with this one. That's just the impression I get from the song titles. Also, a double single release at the same time? That's kind of odd. I hope this one has more of the MG vocal style and more vocals we're familiar with in the mix than LOES.
  9. Matthew had a second child in December of last year? I just read about it on Wikipedia and am not sure how I missed this. Weird.
  10. "If Heaven's for clean people, it's vacant"
  11. When I first heard these many of them didn't do it for me but over the last few years I've been gaining a lot of appreciation for them. I've been noticing how playful the songwriting was and love the amount of piano in them and how playful it is in many parts. There's also a certain vulnerability or whatever that comes through in Matthew's voice and lyrics that's nice to hear. I would be interested to hear Matthew go back to this style for a record or ep or something.
  12. "Where man becomes machine looks death to live again"
  13. Is there any version of this that doesn't have a lot of fuzz/noise in the background? I'm probably imagining things but I thought I had one once that wasn't so hard on the ears.
  14. Post lyrics that stand out to you for one reason or another. Here's one that goes a ways back to 'Coming Out in Purple'. It's simple, but it's true, and it's not something people are too keen to speak about so it struck me. "we, we are accountable for our own actions by the way we have to answer for it, answer for it we, we're gonna answer for it for once you're gonna answer for it"
  15. It's refreshing this time around because I've heard very little from this album. The past two albums I practically heard the whole album (in demo form) a while before it was released. Gomo: I kinda know what you're saying. For over a year now probably I have listened to very little Matthew Good. It's weird because for quite a few years he was my most consistently listened to artist. I would listen to other things as well but I would always go back to him after a short while, more-so than anyone else. I guess I've needed a break from his music. I've been in a Matthew Good funk. Then again I was in a music funk altogether for a few months last year. I am looking forward to the new album though. Does anyone know if he used Garage Band on this one?
  16. The last point sounds good. I'm not sure about the title. wait- Where did you find this information?
  17. So I emailed Ryan and he say they got a grant for a new Limblifter record. Sweet I say, didn't know if we'd get another record under that name. I really liked his solo album. Quite different from what we heard from his band, but very unique and interesting music. I don't really care if we get Ryan in solo or Limb form, as long as it's a main project of his, but it's cool and unexpected to get more LL.
  18. Cool. I like it.
  19. Is this all stuff that's supposed to be part of the songs for the album or is some of it just random jamming or something? That last one is the best of the bunch so far I think. I love that it sounds kind of upbeat. It makes me think of some 90's rock. I hope this album isn't more in the vein of Vancouver or WL but a new/new-old rock sound.
  20. That's cool of him to do. He begins recording next week, so I assume that means he's written the whole album already? That's a nice change from the last 2 albums where we could listen to parts of demos and whole demos and it left little surprise for the finished thing. This time I don't really have a clue what it will sound like and it's refreshing.
  21. Sounds great. I loved the experimentation of LOES but more of a straight up rock album could be good. Will it be done with Garage Band? I find it interesting that Matt can pin down the release to a specific month already and it's almost a year away and that the single is coming out mid-late spring but the album's only coming out in September. Are the songs mostly written already? If so that was pretty quick. Looking forward to it as usual.
  22. Awesome sauce. Not that videos are a big deal to me but it would be cool to see another video from you. The personal best-of would be interesting as well.
  23. Have you heard Leathers or any of the ones they played live? And yes, I think they're pretty great live. Chino has belted out some of the nastiest high pitched screams I've ever heard.
