I thought Matt's love for Talk Talk was very well known around here that someone else would have got it. Or is this a joke? -
Big Wreck
Manchalivin replied to Young Grasshopper's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
So what do you think of the new album? I think it's pretty solid. Maybe as good as the second, definitely not as good as the first but I would never expect that anyway. In a way it might be better than the second because I thought that album had too many songs/was too long. It could have easily been cut down. This album eliminates that and is more cohesive but still has plenty technicality and whatnot. It's maybe a little more radio friendly than the first but it works as a Big Wreck album on the whole. I really didn't like the Glass Room song at first but it's growing a bit. I think it's mainly the chorus, or the first part of the chorus or whatever it is. It sounds cheesy and too poppy to me and reminds me of Third Eye Blind rather than BW. Also parts of the beginning or verses don't really sound like BW to me but other parts sound quite good. The first four songs are a really good stretch. Control is really cool. You Caught My Eye is quite good and the last song Time is a very good closer. -

Wait! What? Big Wreck have a new album out? I didn't even know if they were back together let alone having a new album out. That's unexpected, but kind of exciting. I'll have to check it out. I hope it doesn't just sound like his solo stuff. -

Well Matt has certainly piqued my curiosity. From his website: "As mentioned, I’ll be on CFOX at 4pm PST on Wednesday. You might want to listen. There might be something you'll want to hear. That’s all I’m going to say."

Matthew Good Wins Another Juno Award
Manchalivin replied to Shortcut To Moncton's topic in Matthew Good
I find that surprising since it's a far less radio friendly album. Cool though. -
Cold Harbour? (lights Of Endangered Species Megathread!)
Manchalivin replied to Who's topic in Matthew Good
In a Place of Lesser Men started out really strong but the last few times I've listened to this album I've thought it kind of seems out of place for some reason. I think the album would flow better and be better without it. -
I've maintained Born to Kill for a while now. But it could change depending on what I feel like.

The album is just so good that even most of the songs near the bottom are gold.

Tour Poll: Solo Acoustic Vs Full Band
Manchalivin replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Matthew Good
I've never been to a Matthew Good show so I'll go from recordings I have. Acoustic really lets MG's voice shine, plus the more varied setlists are awesome. However, some songs just clearly sound better with the band and acoustic tends to sound a bit the same to me after a while. It depends on my mood, I dunno what to pick. -
Lullaby is great. One of the underrated songs from Avalanche in my opinion. I quite enjoy Double Life but I agree the album might go better without it. The album really doesn't need 21st Century Living or Song For The Girl. I really wouldn't mind if Pledge wasn't on there either, that one seems to be overrated. Other than those songs (which I don't mind at all), the album is gold. I love your picks Sensory Overload. Good job and welcome to the forum.
