I was there on Sunday and it was fantastic. The Hip are a band I've really only followed in passing - I don't own any albums other than Fully Completely and Day For Night, but listened to a lot of their stuff because my parents listened to it when I was growing up, so for me it was a lot of recognizing things and just reconciling it with my childhood, so the fact that I didn't know any of the new stuff didn't bug me all that much. I was very incredibly and happily surprised by Thugs and Locked in The Trunk of a Car getting played. Those are 2 of my favorite Hip songs and I was totally floored that I got to hear them.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. Holy shit this book is awesome.

Going to Thrice in September. September is an okay month for shows. -
And I think more might be coming from the initial pre-sale and on-sale, as it appears ticketmaster is retroactively verifying purchases. When I got my tickets, the QR code for them was available immediately via the ticketmaster app, but now the code is gone and I got a pop up saying they will be delivered at a later date (which is what happened when I ordered Sigur Ros tickets, except, you know, immediately).

At The Drive-In was fantastic last night. Sounded really tight, had lots of good energy AND they announced they're going to release a new album. -
I also managed to get nosebleeders for the first show in Vancouver through the pre-sale. Spent 40 minutes trying. And got paid for it because I did it at work! Ticketmaster doesn't own StubHub, ebay does. EDIT: Here's an article/interview w/ a StubHub rep from Alan Cross's site: http://ajournalofmusicalthings.com/stubhub-behind-scenes-giving-empathetic-liars/

I got a record player today! Tested out 99%, had one little skip, but kept going. Sounds fantastic though, even through less than ideal speakers. -

I just have everything saved in iTunes under Matthew Good because that makes it easier for me. Sort of a Protest Song - 617 A Single Exploson - 474 99% of Us is Failure - 373 Born Losers - 358 Giant - 353 Odette - 352 Suburbia - 347 Tripoli - 343 The Workers Sing a Song of Mass Production - 335 Weapon - 330 There was a time when I wasn't using last.fm (and still don't really use it now) so I imagine in the grand scheme of things, I think songs like Mildred and Lights of Endangered Species would have a crack at the top 10. I think what this chart shows for me (other than my love for BM and AOB) is that Hospital Music is probably my third most listened to album of Matt's career. I know all time, I've probably listened to SOAPS well over 1000 times, and I think I would probably be close to 1000 on A Single Explosion.

I saw Spy a couple of weekends ago. Like Kingsmen, it caught me by surprise with how good it was.
-
The Witch, again. Black Phillip for best supporting actor 2016. I don't care that he's a goat. Seriously this movie is so good.
-
Those Union Tube and Transistor fuzz pedals are worth the $300 though. I have the sub buzz for my bass and it's easily one of the best fuzz pedals I've ever used.
-
10 Cloverfield Lane was the most recent I saw in the theater and it was fantastic. Between it and the Witch, that's 2 movies this year with limited cast/locations that just absolutely nail it. I watched Martyrs today for the first time in about 5 years, and holy fuck that movie does not get any easier to watch.
-
Shay and I saw The Witch last weekend and it was awesome. It reminded a lot of "It Follows" (which was my third favorite 2015 movie) in the sense that there's just a pervasive sense of dread throughout the whole thing. Great visuals, great acting, creepy soundtrack. If you like slow burn horror type movies, see it!

I loved it. It was a lot of fun and it was nice that it didn't take itself so seriously.

I haven't yet started Firewatch and I need to finish the last episode of Life Is Strange. Also need to play Read Only Memories, Kentucky Route Zero (waiting for the last 2 episodes to come out), Her Story, Charnel House Trilogy and a bunch of other stuff (I like indie games if this was apparent). I am probably gonna go through Firewatch this weekend though.

Personally, I would actually pick Club Meds over anything else for Rock Album of the year. CN is pretty damn good, but Mangan is on another level right now.
-
Instead of Dan Mangan? Fucking ludicrous.
