  1. I would probably buy something I had always wanted but never owned. A completely fresh start... Then I would go to pawn shops and get all my shit back.
  2. Wicked, thanks dude. Now I'm glad I didn't buy that Harrowdown Hill single for Drunkk Machine.
  3. I was going thorugh my parents' records and found a copy of Blue Valentine in wicked condition, which neither of my parents remember buying. So now it's mine....MINE!!! rbally has a bootleg from a '75 show up right now, go check it out.
  4. I agree, SY kick serious ass. I wouldn't knock Sister or any of the early stuff though, "Schizophrenia" is one of my all time favourite songs. Cat Power does a great cover of it as well. Oh, and it's Kim, not Karen. They just sing about Karen Carpenter a lot. Rather Ripped has been been in my player a lot this year.
  5. Dude, you about to embark on a long journey.
  6. I've played them a few times and enjoyed the tracks I heard (all from Blood Mountain). If you are a metal fan, you should probably check them out. Blood Mountain appears to be one of the most highly acclaimed heavy albums of the year to boot.
  7. VU's Loaded, though Reed quit during recording, is one of my favourite records ever. Velvet Underground stand as a permanent favourite of mine. Seriously, "Rock & Roll"? Perfection.
  8. Yeah, Crooked Rain was a music changing experience for me, they've been my favourite band since. Slanted and Enchanted is also a great place to start, if you can get past the lofi sound and hear the sweet tunes underneath. Brighten the Corners is my least favourite album, but yeah it is more straightforward. A couple weeks ago their third record Wowee Zowee got the deluxe reissue treatment and I'm still waiting for mine to arrive. Pavement's reissues give you some great bang for your buck, better than most. But yeah, it would be nice to see more love for them, but then again I think I"m happy with people finding them and enjoying the music isolated from other fans. so PURE.
  9. the Velvet Underground - Cool it Down
  10. I've never liked Cat Stevens, mostly because I find him to be a sissy bitch. However, "Wild World" ain't bad, and I was curious, so I checked out his new song. If you look, you should be able to find an mp3 of "Heaven/Where True Love Goes". It's understandably full of religious imagery, and the music is still ez rock type stuff. The one review of it I read by an avid Cat Stevens fan said it was great, so if you're a fan maybe you will also dig this stuff. If you didn't like him before, though, stay away.
  11. You are right to a point. Our Lady Peace won't make a good record ever again because they've lost it, but Bob Rock does make things worse. I am not really a fan of the Hip's new record, but I saw them live last weekend in Calgary and it was fucking incredible, the new songs just came to life. There were a couple that I'm still not down with, but for the most part the band made the songs sound good. Bob Rock is a bad man.
  12. Stuff is usually influential because it's good. Given, at this point if you are seeing Bob Dylan it's probably just to see Bob Dylan; I doubt many people will be singing along with the Modern Times material. However, if you doubt Dylan, you probably haven't listened enough. From what I've heard, this band he is playing with is really tight, so I would expect the show to be pretty good.
  13. And because the bands get to live with him in his house in Hawaii...maybe...
  14. A killer of fine music. Worst of all, I don't think he understands why anyone would hate him.
  15. My favourite new one so far.
  16. Wow, epic size. Johnny Marr (of the Smiths) has also joined the band as a full time member, and even got songwriting credit on a few tracks. I'm interested to see how it comes out.
  17. Watching "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" will likely give you an increased appreciation of his music. There are a lot of gems in his catalogue to discover if you can get past your initial impression.
  18. I think it will be a shame if Boy Come Home doesn't end up on the record. I love that song the most of all the new material.
  19. That's just Satty being Satty. If he doesn't hate it, who will?
  20. Bob Rock isn't cool enough to be the devil. He wishes he was that cool. I was really hoping to hear more synth lines like the one in In View, but instead we get a lot of piano. Nothing wrong with that of course, this is the first album of theirs to use keys this much, but I like the direction In View was going in. I'm still buying this record like all the others, but it's definitely not the shining star of their late period.
  21. So it's up streaming on their site and it goes into stores next week. Initially I wasn't expecting much, mostly because Bob Rock was producing it so I expected to be an Our Lady Peace sized piece of crap. Then I heard "In View" and my fears went away. The song is great, and I figured the album would match it at least a few times. So I listened and I'm not impressed. I may even like In Violet Light better, which was my least favourite until now. So far a couple of tracks are growing on me, so I'll see what I think in a week. It kind of sounds like they aren't even trying for the first half of the record. "Family Band" is alright. Anyone else listen to it yet? Check out www.thehip.com to hear it.
  22. Two words: Soulful Strut Three Words: Young Holt Unlimited Greatness.
