  1. I agree. The cover has more power in it, the vocals are better suited to the theme of the song, whereas in the original I thought the vocals were bland. The video for the Cash version is pretty damn good, too.
  2. 'Don't Believe Everything You Think' - Death By Stereo
  3. I believe euthanasia is right only in cases of terminal illness and intense suffering. Take the case of Robert Latimer, for example (the farmer who killed his mentally handicapped 12 year old daughter). Tracey Latimer had a severe form of cerebral palsy. She couldn't walk, talk or feed herself, and functioned at the level of a three-month-old. She weighed under 40 pounds. She suffered from terrible seizures and had gone through several surgeries. Robert put her in his car in the garage, ran a hose from the exhaust into the cab, kissed his daughter goodbye and turned on the engine. He was later convicted of second degree murder. I find it hard to justify putting anyone through the kind of torture diseases like cerebral palsy inflict. The opponents of euthanasia say that it's like playing God. I disagree. Everything we do is like playing God. Curing a disease like polio or smallpox, is that not also playing God? Is saving people's lives in a hospital every day not playing God? All physicians take an oath to "do no harm". I think it does more harm than good to allow a person to die a painful death in a hospital bed hooked up to iron lungs and the like. Is it too much to ask that all people are accorded death with dignity? I fail to see the dignity of lying in a vegetative state for years, slowly dying and wasting away in a hospital, away from loved ones and friends. Anyway, that's how I feel on the subject.
  4. 'Slaughterhouse-Five' is an excellent read. The only other Vonnegut book I've read is 'Jail Bird', which is great too.
  5. Listening to both, I'd have to say that Johnny Cash brings more to the table in terms of raw emotion. What do you think?
  6. The 'Apparitions' video compliments the song better than all the other videos. It's just an excellent video.
  7. In random order: 1: 'Invalid Litter Dept.' - At The Drive In 2: 'Fake Plastic Trees' - Radiohead 3: 'Hurt' - Johnny Cash 4: 'Gone For Good' - The Shins 5: 'Behind Blue Eyes' - The Who 6: 'Money' - Pink Floyd 7: 'Stairway to Heaven' - Led Zeppelin 8: 'Apparitions' - Matthew Good Band 9: 'Suicide is Painless' - Johnny Mandel 10: 'PDA' - Interpol This is just a rough list, as I could never possibly make a true, set in stone top 10 list.
  8. 'Ashes Of American Flags' - Wilco
  9. Alas, no Kingston
  10. Is fetus is human just like my spleen is human. It just isn't a person. By denying an abortion to a woman, she no longer has the rights to control her own body and is, in essence, a slave to the pregnancy. Adoption is not always a great way to go. There are upwards of 80 million orphans on adoption lists world wide. There's no shortage, unfortunatly. Why decrease the odds of a child - who already is a person - getting a chance at life as opposed to placing a potential person above them? When 96% of abortions are carried out, they occur when the fetus hasn't even developed what pro-lifers would call a mind of its own, in the first 12 weeks. How can there be living person without a brain? It's not until week 24 that the fetus starts to develop the right 'tools' to feel pain. That's 6 months into the pregnancy, or 66%. Many times, the pregnancy causes serious health risks to the mother and the fetus must be aborted to save at least one life. BTW, I only included incest with the rape part because that's the way it's voted on (legal only in cases of rape or incest). I admit, it's bad wording.
  11. Have you tried ticketmaster?

  13. But answer me this, why take away the mother's right to make her own choices about her own body?
  14. That's priceless ;) I just thought this up now: When Bush visited Iraq for Thanksgiving, I couldn't tell who the fake turkey was in the photographs.
  15. The fetus is a potential person. The mother is an actual person. Why does a potential person have rights over an actual person? Any number of things can happen between conception and birth to terminate the fetus. What's the justification? ps, if someone can change my mind on this issue, they get a prize. So far, it's a good debate ;)
  16. Who said anything about killing a baby? 96% of abortions are carried out in the first 12 weeks when the fetus is simply incapable of feeling pain. No brain=no pain.
  17. The great thing about the right to choose is that it gives the mother the freedom to do what she thinks is best for her child, her family. Also, why should other people force their ideological beliefs on those who don't want them, especially us males, who have almost no idea what it's like to be pregnant.
  18. Computer photo-editing: the root of all evil? fucking kangaroos
  19. Isn't that just the same as rock music written with emotion? I think emo's too broad to have a sole definition.
  20. I was wearing long sleeves, so that's probably why I didn't notice much.
  21. What does where I live have to do with my knowledge of music? If I had bad taste in music, I wouldn't even post on this board. I just realized that there's no set definition of emo. Whiny lyrics? Post-grunge/nu-metal. Emotional? A lot of Pink Floyd, MG(B), Bruce Springsteen. If there's any other stereotypes, I'll think of them later.
  22. Not even condoms or the pill are 100% foolproof methods of birth control. And while I think that messing around is wrong, no child should have to be born to parents who don't want it.
