  1. Geoff Lloyd's a helluva bassist. It's an interesting 'what-if' to entertain, if he never left and what the band's musical direction would be like. It probably wouldn't change much because Matt and Dave did most of the writing and he left because he felt he wasn't giving enough to the creative process in the first place. Just another thought...
  2. At school, it's a really great brek from the rest of the day. Anyhoo...good albums? I'm just getting into this myself, but so far my favourites are: 'Milestones' - Miles Davis 'In This House, On This Morning' - Wynton Marsalis Septet 'Blue Train', - John Coltrane 'Changeless', 'At The Deer Head Inn' - Keith Jarret 'Brown Eyes' - Clifford Brown 'Monk on Monk' - T.S. Monk 'Bird and Diz' - Charlie Parker 'Time Out' - Dave Brubeck There's also a good list here.
  3. Chantal Kreviazuk Liz Phair Joni Mitchell Holly McNarland Aimee Mann Bif Naked Diana Krall Avril Lavigne has a really good, strong voice. It's just everything else about her music that turns me off.
  4. The Night Opus
  5. Oh, sorry about that. You make a good point.
  6. Just because he wouldn't be on a major label wouldn't mean you wouldn't be able to buy his albums.
  7. I'd say Matador, mainly because they're my favourite. He'd be in good company with Interpol and Guided By Voices, I think.
  8. If I didn't know better, I'd say you were insulting my intelligence ;) . Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me. Okay, let's see here...80's eh?
  9. No, not Simple Plan, but the song is called 'Alien'. Don't be too disappointed if you can't get it if you're not from Winnipeg. ;) *Hint* They used to play backup for Robyn Black (I think they were the Ballroom Zombies then)
  10. Bad by U2? A Winnipeger should know this one ;)
  11. I've always enjoyed playing trumpet. For some reason I played in 4 school bands last year, so colour me a band nerd. I used to play piano, but quit when it became too much like a chore. One of these days I think I'll take up guitar or something...
  12. Anyone else here play/enjoy some jazz every now and then? I recently started jamming with friends after school, and I'm begining to really get into guys like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Clifford Brown, Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane. Nothing on MG, but these guys have to be some of the most talented musicians on the face of the planet. Anyone agree, disagree? I just thought that most of the talk here was confined to modern rock. Anyhoo....... B)
  13. Minors...we make me sick.
  14. I'd say it's about 75% new material. When he was in Winnipeg, the older songs he played were: Hello Time Bomb, Load Me Up, Weapon, and then for an encore he did Apparitions, IAWCC, and Can't Get Shot In The Back If You Don't Run solo acoustic, as well as Empty Road with a full band.
  15. A few people. They only had a rope barrier and people were getting cut and burned on it and pushed over it. I actually didn't see much of that as I was more in the middle, so I have to assume that Matt knew what he was talking about, and after the show I heard some people talking. There was lots about it on some of the other MG boards too.
  16. Matt stopped the show early because people were getting hurt up in front. He told them about 4 times to calm down, and finally they just stopped halfway through 'Hello Time Bomb' to yell at the moshers. They finished the song and left. Matt did come out and do a few acoustic solo encores, as well as a full band version of 'Empty Road', which made the night somewhat better, although you could tell the band was somewhat distracted by all the crap going on.
  17. Just hope they're not like the Winnipeg show. ;) goddamn moshers
  18. It starts in Winnipeg today
  19. Matt on this last line: "Drusilla was Caligula’s sister who he married and then killed. And of course Caligula, the Roman Emperor believed he was Zeus or Jove reincarnate. And just a comment on the fact that you allowed this madman to exist when you could have gotten rid of him a million times. But you don’t. Buy why? For fear? For the fact that you’re unsure of your own actions? You can’t save something by believing that those in charge know what they’re doing but you don’t because you’re ignorant to it. As long as we believe that nothing will ever change. Until people actually stand up and go “you know what, we might not be the most educated about this and you might say this is how it’s done, but who’s to say that that’s always has to be done.” Obviously, look at the way things are “done”, look where it’s gotten us. Time to re-think that."
