  1. Didn't someone make this thread a year ago, and it was just as lame, pointless and redundant?
  2. I used to think they were a bit of a joke, because the lead singer seems like a lame-o, and their singles from and after Title of Record were pretty gay (but I liked them, and still have them stuck in my head). Hey Man Nice Shot was a sort of in joke for me, but recently I went back and listened to it again and it was pretty rockin'. The post accomplished nothing.
  3. I realize there's a very similar thread that's been around a lot longer than this, but I like this one better. I was up all night, socializing Trying to keep the latent depression from crystalizing Now the sun is lurking just behind the Scarborough horizon And you're not even here On the coldest night of the year. I took in Yonge Street at a glance Heard the punkers playing Watched the bikers dance Everybody wishing they could go to the south of France And you're not even here On the coldest night of the year. Hey look at me now See the shape I'm in It's taken me so long to catch on to what's going on Inside this skin When two lovers really love there's nothing there But this suddenly compact universe Skin and breath and hair I watched the all night TV show In the all night bar I drove all the people home I was the one with the car Now I'm sitting here alone and sleepless and wondering where you are And wishing you were here On the coldest night of the year
  4. I voted for Batman. Actually I voted for Ariel, because last week I watched the scene where she gets raped/made-over and made naked and I found it pretty hot. Cartoons made me have a thing for (certain) red heads, and Ariel was in part responsible. Second place would be Snow White for the same reasons as Mike, and I also think Belle is nice.
  5. Nothing new, but with this one and the one from CBC a few weeks ago I like the amount devoted to bipolarity. Being a rock star with problems who medicates is great for dealing with stigma and bad influences of your rock and roll martyrs and drug addicts.
  6. Does the Hub still exist? anyone know? I might have it if there is no Hub.
  7. SNAAAAAP
  8. Mike, you make me wish 'snap' was 8 letters long.
  9. Same guy. Same with Neo, and Aniken, sort of.
  10. Meh, i think you're reading into the X-men too much and giving the characters and concept too much credit. I think Stan Lee was smart enough to know that it would be a pretty universal concept and that everyone from the racially to the socially oppressed could associate with the mutant story, I think as characters and as superheros it just limits them. You can only tell so many stories about mutant racism before it starts to be unrealistic and trite. It's like with Spider-man, how long does it take for people to realize he's the good guy? I know with mutants you've got the bad ones, but Dr. Doom doesn't make people not trust the Fantastic 4. I also think that the Social Darwinist super-villain was taken to much more interesting levels with Apocalypse, though with Magneto it's still interesting because of his personal history, and his character's compassion for all mutants. He's cool because he's not evil, or racist. He's like the mutant Malcolm X taken to the point of putting violent self-defense into action, which is interesting. But I still think that mutant characters will always be too defined by their super powers and race, which is the same reason Superman is losing this poll.
  11. I agree that the X-men villains are way cool, but I think that the Batman villains are superior in the ways that they work with helping understand the Batman character. With the Joker you have the constant moral dilemma about whether or not he should just kill him, and it's cool how he's the complete opposite to Batman, and the whole thing about how each is the other's driving force in life. Then there's Two Face, who tends to bring up issues of Batman's dual identity, and which is the real person. And with both of those you have the whole problem with Batman having a part in their creation in some way or another, and the guilt he has from in some ways being responsible for the things he's fighting. This same depth of meaning can be found in almost all of his villains, and I think it's what makes him not only more interesting and complex than Superman, but most comic book characters. It's what's going to make Batman last for a long time, and have 22nd century history students groaning the same we we groan about Beowulf or Gilgamesh today. Also, as much as I love X-men villains, the Batman ones are much more creative and original. There's no cop out when it comes to origin stories, which is kind of the problem with mutant characters. Look at all those words!
  12. When I was lil I didn't want to see it, because it looked gay. And I was wrong, Mike. I was dead wrong, and I will be the first person to admit it.
  13. I just watched Dark City. I was blown away. Anyone else seen this?
  14. All you need is that sad walking away music and it'll be a hit. As long as it has a good hulk, no live action and no crappy animation.
  15. I'm probably going to watch that, so that what day I can write an essay about how it does or does not transgress gender roles. It looks like it's going to take those inescapably cool elements (robots, time travel, ACTION!) and make a series out of it. I think it would make a good series, like if they remade the Incredible Hulk TV series.
  16. Tomorrow I have a big fat presentation, so tonight I've watched parts of The Manchurian Candidate, Black Hawk Down, Three Kings and Jarhead.
  17. That sounds awesome. Too late to ask for it for Christmas though. Mike, I'll get it for you if you get it for me. But only if you remind me.
  18. This will have to do. I BeT tHe JoKeR wOuLd TyPe LiKe ThIs.
  19. I just listened to Talking Heads - Remain in Light, followed by Fear of Music, and am now listening to Bruce Cockburn - Anything Anytime Anywhere. All of these things keep me sane(ish).
  20. Hmm, with the limited information so far, it seems like it can only be good. Robots versus humans, Christian Bale, and a distancing from the dependency on the same tired characters is all good.
  21. Is this what you meant? if it works.
  22. You guys, this is serious.
  23. Batman. Come on. Everything about Superman sucks. Even his super powers aren't that cool, they are so basic and unimaginative. He pisses me off. Fly here, fly there. Catch this, lift that. Eat shit Superman.
  24. I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet, but is anyone else constantly distracted by the words 'pulls out' in the title of this thread? Dala pulls out, but abstinence is the only birth control method that's 100%.
