  1. A lot of times, I see it like that - well, organized religion anyways, for the most part, not so much the individuals.
  2. When I say freedom of the press, I mean freedom from government interference. Yes, the establishment media is owned by about 5 or 6 corporations (Disney, Viacom, General Electric, NewsCorp, AOL-Time-Warner...), but there is more out there. When was the last time you got your news from only those sources, anyways? The vast amount of print sources available (especially now with the internet) allow us to get many perspectives of news stories and I would say that the monopoly that these corporations have is weakening. Blogs are another new innovation that are really changing the way people get their news. The days of reporting digging up a story are still very much with us. CBS and New Yorker writer Seymour Hersh broke the Abu Graib story. It's good to view the media critically, but it's possible to be over cynical. And can you show me proof that the FBI arrested someone for simply wearing a t-shirt or saying something, or where women's rights are being attacked? I'm not going to comment one way or another about that until I can read evidence, but I know the Constitution is still very much alive. I totally agree with you about the computer voting machines with no paper trail. I can't believe there isn't more of an uproar over these, because there is such a large opportunity for fraud (the CEO of the company who makes these machines is a Republican supporter.) However, I still stand by the assertion that the US, until proven otherwise, is a million times better than any dictatorship any day. Well, there is proof of someone being arrested for wearing something. I remember a few months back, a guy decided to dress up as that guy in the black cape from the Abu Ghraib photos and stand outside a military recruitment centre. He was arrested, with police saying he looked as though he was going to detonate a bomb or posed some sort of threat. Matt posted a link to a story in his blog awhile ago, I'm not sure if it's still there, as the archives have been deleted.
  3. It's his blog that he's keeping while he's on vacation in Europe. That's why he named it In A Coma - because he suffers from Jet Lag, so whenever he travels, he feels ilke he's in a coma
  4. Post # 75... 3/4 of the way to 100, and this is my 7th day here. Not too shabby.
  5. put out your lights was also played right before a commercial during the World Series Playoffs. i have no idea why you listed all that off, but it seemed fitting that i added this. speaking of that, was anyone else watching when it happened? i wonder how they decided to choose the song, and let alone, how they found out about it. Weapon was also used in a promo bit for the Eleventh Hour on CTV.
  6. How did Apparitions beat out Avalanche? Aggg...

  8. You're right there. When countries aren't allowed in the U.N., they're going to raise a fuss about it, instead of being good little boys and girls and reforming themselves. The current leaders of dictatorships want to stay in power, and aren't interested in anything but themselves.
  9. I think that's kind of overlooking the fact that it's extremely unlikely that a massive barrage of ICBM's from a foreign country is going to happen at all.

    The Who Cover

Can I have your NF$, then?
  12. ...since when do libraries rent out CD's? The Toronto Public library does. I'm using it to expand my CD collection without having to spend money on actually buying CD's. You'd be surprised how many CD's you can find.
  13. Funny thing, there are plenty of Americans that think they should leave the UN (and, of course, leave it to fall to pieces since the U.S. isn't there to keep everyone thinking straight), because of the way the UN didn't agree to the invasion of Iraq, and since, for once, the UN said "no" to the U.S.'s demands, that it's good for nothing.
  14. They're all different. There are several different sayings, 5 to my count.
  15. I'll send you one song to make you want it more than charge you for the rest. Oooh, could you send "The Fine Art of Falling Apart"? To the email listed in my post. I'd be quite obliged...
  16. On the edition of Beautiful Midnight I've got on loan from the libary, there's some text on the back of the Cd... I should try and see what it is. EDIT: some things are better said with the lights out.
  17. When I hear AoB, the music seems t osound a bit hollow. DOn't get me wrong, it's a great album, but it sounds like Matt wanted to experiment more with the music, take it a step further, but the other band members didn't like that. I can hear a lot of places where the instrumentation sorta sounds a bit hollow, or it could have gone a step further, like in "the workers sing a song of mass production"
  18. That's me, lol. Muhahahaha! Aggh! You know, the polite thing to do would be to send me along the song files through my email... *cough* Ah well, someday I'll get me a copy. Maybe Matt will follow up on his promise and put up LA and Lo-Fi B-Sides on the iTunes store. Enjoy it, knowing that I made you pay more for it.
  19. thats pretty disappointing to hear, cuz the book is almost always BETTER than the movie I think that rule only holds true when you read the book, then the movie, because the movie is so fast-paced, and almost always adapted into the director's point of view, so when you're reading the book after the movie, the scenes and actors from the movie are running through your head.
  20. I, too, cried the first time I saw Return of the King, when all of Minis Tirith bows to the hobbits. For me, it was the scene at the end where the Elves and Bilbo are leaving to Valinor on the ship, with Frodo. Frodo looking at Sam was just so intense, really well done.
  21. Yeah, same thing over here. Although, if I can remember, the last three movies I saw in theatres were F 9/11, the Return of the King... and... uh... I don't know, maybe that movie with Vin Diesel when he was some anti-drug cop. It was so bad that I don't remember the name. Though I do watch a few more movies at home.
  22. That first picture made me laugh, the suit Ron was wearing would have been considered tacky in the 70's.
  23. The whirring of the computer, last listening to sort of a protest song.
