  1. Alberta is the only province with no debt. So vote Tory. ;)
  2. She should at least be elected by the people if she has to sign bills into law and if she's the commander-in-chief of the military. Our system belongs in 1867, not 2005.
  3. So why have one? It's just a waste of taxpayer money...
  4. The subway. ;) $100 a month, and I can ride it as much as I want, though!
  5. I really doubt it. In Vietnam, roughly 60 000 US soldiers died. The US death toll will never even come close to that in Iraq. It's at about 1500 after 2 years. Opposition forces in South Vietnam, such as the Viet Cong, were strong... the insurgents in Iraq today have neither the capability nor the popular support which the Viet Cong did. The American public obviously supports the occupation, at least to the point that it re-elected Bush. I think most people would rather see the US stay longer and ensure the stability of Iraq than leave too soon and have years of effort and sacrifice go to hell. The election this weekend probably has made support for the war among the US population sky rocket.
  6. Apples and oranges. I'm sure you can see that.
  7. Agree with Rebelle. It should be an option, but the process must be long with a great deal of outside evalution of the person's competence. There must be absolutely no doubt about their consent.
  8. There will be proportional Sunni representation in this government despite their lower turnout, while they write their constitution. I can't see there being a civil war in Iraq any time soon. At least not while the US is there, and they won't pull out until it is stable enough.
  9. Of course the insurgency won't stop immediately after the election. But the large voter turnout signifies that most people want a stable, democratic government, something the insurgents are deadset against. The US election in November had a turnout of 60.7%, according to the Washington Post.
  10. Flawless is not bad. I'll have to download a few more of the songs.
  11. It's a good show. Not really refreshing, though, considering every show on Newsworld is kinda like that.
  12. The correct answer is Radiohead.
  13. yea, because the only bands coming from America are what you hear on the radio. Fuck you, cunt. Im pretty sure that was completely uncalled for. Obviously you're american So why no suggestions to back up your claim that all i hear is on the radio??? please enlighten me to the music that someone like YOU listens too Id be really surprised if you even listen to music at all im sure your too busy killing animals and robbing old ladies. You are completely disgusting. I'm sure that last sentence was equally uncalled for. Anyways, to defend the state of American music, here are some of my favourite American bands: The Strokes Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Weezer Beulah The Shins Modest Mouse Neutral Milk Hotel Apples in Stereo Of Montreal Brian Wilson Jeff Buckley Ryan Adams Just because crap dominates the mainstream, doesn't mean there isn't great stuff if you look around. That's just the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure most Canadians would be offended if someone judged Canadian music by Nickelback. Debate over.
  14. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing. But there's something profoundly wrong with detonating car bombs outside police stations instead of engaging in legitimate political discourse.
  15. The insurgents don't give a damn about the average Iraqi. Most of them are foreign, anyways. If they truly cared, they wouldn't kill so many people. You're right. I can't process your way of thinking...
  16. Which opposing groups? The ones who target civilians in suicide bombings?
  17. Their last album, Vulture Street, did well in Canada. I saw them on their Canadian tour, and even hung out with them a bit afterwards. Look for it, you won't regret it.
  18. "They originally put it at 72 percent but later backtracked, saying possibly eight million had voted, or just over 60 percent of registered voters." You're right, but 60 is still a hell of a lot better than what Canada or the US gets in peace time!
  19. Powderfinger are amazing.
  20. What media do you read? I try to access a good cross-section of sources, such as the NY Times, AP, Reuters, al-jazeera, cnn, etc, and then form an opinion If you don't trust what you read from certain sources, you should search harder. The internet is a wealth of information. In the sense that 30 to 40 Iraqis died going to the polls, it wasn't successful. However, put Iraq into the context of the war zone which it is. A majority of eligible voters risked everything to go to the polls and reject tyranny. Upwards of eight million people gave a collective "fuck you" to the insurgents who want efforts to create a democracy to fail. The election was a success, and will have positive effects on the future of the country.
  21. I suppose The Stills at the moment. But my favourite bands are British or American. (Oasis, The Verve, Morrissey, Beulah...)
  22. So... what's the truth? And would you tell 8 million Iraqis who risked their lives and voted in a real election (meaning more than just one candidate) today for the first time in a generation that they're just part of some conspiracy? Just wondering...
  23. So, would them being from Georgia discredit your theory that "anything original in america just turns into consumerized crap..." ;)
  24. Of Montreal isn't Canadian.
  25. Canada hasn't had a turnout like that since the 1960s, which is pretty incredible considering how dangerous Iraq is.
