  1. Very hypocritical, considering that the US does a great deal of business in the world's largest Communist country. If the US wants Castro gone, they are certainly going about it wrong. Instead of restricting trade and travel, it should be encouraged. America has succeeded in isolating Cuba in this hemisphere, but that has also strengthened Castro's rule over the Cuban people. Many economists agree that free trade is the best way to empower people in the long term, and trade with the world's largest economy would cause a huge impact. The US doesn't need to normalize diplomatic relations and recognize Castro as a legitimate leader. But it does need to lift the barriers that prevent Americans from commerce with the Cuban people.
  2. I'm against this clause. It gives the executive branch of the government (the PM and Cabinet, basically) far too much power over the judiciary. The Supreme Court exists to make sure the ruling party does not make any laws which are unconstitutional or violate our freedoms. If a PM (or provincial governments) can over-ride any such ruling, then what is the point? I personally don't have a problem with Quebec's language laws; I think provinces should have the power to decide what language to use in their government, but that goes for outside Quebec, also, where French serves little use but is forced upon the provinces. The best way to appease the provinces is simple: a Senate with upon equal representation for all provinces, much like in the United States. What is known as a Triple-E Senate (for Equal, Elected and Effective). This won't happen at the moment, however, as the Senate is currently filled with Liberal or Conservative cronies, and the ruling party would be foolish to give up such a political advantage.
  3. I might run as an independent, just so I can vote for somebody. Otherwise I'll spoil my ballot as always. We need to completely change our system to empower individuals. Right now, there is no way to make a difference without being a high-ranking member of the established political parties.
  4. No, he's the former leader of the Canadian Alliance Party, which is a grassroots conservative party and quite far from fascism. EDIT: It also no longer exists. It merged with the Progressive Conservative Party last year.
  5. Anarchy is the ideal social system, however, humans cannot function without some form of central authority. Anarchy doesn't necessarily mean chaos. The world is an anarchic system of countries, but it's very orderly. But we need some body that can facilitate colletive action, which is just a fact of human nature. Things like defense and justice are too difficult to administer without a coercive power. This is why libertarianism is about as perfect an ideology as we can get. A government should exist, though with very limited power and responsibilities, primarily the protection of the people from violence and fraud. Humans are otherwise left alone by the government, to live their lives.
